  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Legitimate Political Discourse? Really?

The measure described the two members as "participating in a Democrat-led persecution of ordinary citizens engaged in legitimate political discourse" in their roles on the House committee investigating Jan. 6. RNC votes to censure Cheney, Kinzinger for investigating Capitol riot (nbcnews.com)

The RNC censured Liz Cheney and Kinzinger for participating in a committee to investigate the January 6 insurrection.

Is this "discourse?"
On January 6, 2021, a mob of 2,000-2,500 supporters of U.S. President Donald Trump attacked the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.[a][28][29] They sought to overturn his defeat in the 2020 presidential election[30] by disrupting the joint session of Congress assembled to count electoral votes that would formalize President-elect Joe Biden's victory.[3][31] The Capitol Complex was locked down and lawmakers and staff were evacuated as rioters assaulted law enforcement officers, vandalized property, and occupied the building for several hours.[32] Five people died either shortly before, during, or following the event: one was shot by Capitol Police, another died of a drug overdose, and three died of natural causes.[19][33] Many people were injured, including 138 police officers. Four officers who responded to the attack died by suicide within seven months. 2500 rioters assaulting Capitol police (injuring 138), vandalizing property, occupying the building?
There is no justification for the Capitol attack, and even less for the RNC coverup attempt.

By this definition of discourse a political argument involves the firing of assault weapons.

Actually there is no justification in having a purely political investigation. They are not seeking truth, they are after Trump again or should I say still.

The RNC has opted to circle the drain along with Trump ...

What choice do they have? They are not the type admit they were wrong, unless it is that short window of time just before sentencing when they realize they messed up.

Yes, 'legitimate political discourse'. This is followed by 'self preservation' (breaking the law to keep Trump in power) and finally 'self defense' (beating cops who are trying to stop them from their 'self preservation')

Changing the words to make them sound better is what they do. Consider 'legitimate political discourse' as an anti-trigger phrase.

I saw the title and immediately recognized it from the RNC statement I read yesterday of the censure of Cheney and Kinzinger. Some of the wording sounds exactly like trump speech. When the words "radical democrat led" are used as verbs it's some serious gaslighting. I expect the RNC will endure some punishment in the future as most trump sycophants experience with the breakup.

Every person who calls themselves Republican has a choice. Just ask Mike Pence:

"President Trump is wrong: I had no right to overturn the election. The presidency belongs to the American people and the American people alone. And frankly, there is no idea more un-American than the notion that any one person could choose the American president."

Pence says Trump is wrong to insist VP could have overturned election results

“Shame falls on a party that would censure persons of conscience, who seek truth in the face of vitriol,” he tweeted. “Honor attaches to Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger for seeking truth even when doing so comes at great personal cost.”

Wow there is a shocker, Romney, who would think that the guy who has split with his party so many times would say something like that.

Sounds like you think independence of mind is a personal flaw.
