Wow.

Do yourself a favor and do a word search for rest.

In fact, here.

Genesis 1:1 (NKJV)

Furthermore, here's an article about the rest that we may enjoy by coming to Jesus and God.

"28+ Bible Verses about Stillness and Rest in God's Presence - One Thing Alone" 28+ Bible Verses about Stillness and Rest in God's Presence

I think the psalm that strikes me the most is 23.

YHVH is my shepherd. I shall not want. He makes me lie down in Green pastures and leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul.
He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadows of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil. My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and loving kindness shall follow me all the days of my life.
There's a great book called- a shepherd looks at psalm 23. By Philip Keller.

I encourage you to get the book.

YHVH IS our rest.

Isaiah 30:15
Isa 30:15 WEB For thus said the Lord Yahweh, the Holy One of Israel, “You will be saved in returning and rest. Your strength will be in quietness and in confidence.” You refused,

Isaiah 32:17

Isa 32:17 WEB The work of righteousness will be peace, and the effect of righteousness, quietness and confidence forever.

You are confusing the Spiritual rest in Christ with the seventh day Sabbath that is a commandment. As I pointed out in my earlier post that you never responded to, Hebrews 4 warns us we do not receive the spiritual rest in Christ by disobeying and the example of disobedience is the Sabbath commandment. Perhaps something to pray about.

No.

I'm not confusing anything.
I've explicitly been discussing the spiritual rest in Christ since my first post.
I celebrate Jesus 7 days a week. That IS the rest I'm talking about.

And I'm always praying about everything in my life.

It's become increasingly clear that you have chosen the carnal instead of the spiritual.

Hebrews 4 is speaking about 2 different rests and nothing that says celebrating Jesus is a rest 7 days a week, you are adding words that simply are not there

Hebrews 4:4 For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all His works- where do we see this? Genesis 2:1-3 and Exodus 20:8-11 the seventh day Sabbath commandment.

Hebrews 4:6 Since therefore it remains that some must enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience This is the rest in Christ but those who it was first preached did not enter into the rest in Christ because they disobeyed. What did they disobey?

Ezekial 20:13 Yet the house of Israel rebelled against Me in the wilderness; they did not walk in My statutes; they despised My judgments, ‘which, if a man does, he shall live by them’; and they greatly defiled My Sabbaths.

Its to our benefit to understand this very important passage, so we don't lean on our own understandings and are led astray from disobeying God instead of receiving the blessings from God by our obedience, not disobedience.

Hebrews 4:9 There remains therefore a rest (Sabbath keeping) for the people of God. 10 For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. Those who enter in Christ rest keeps the Sabbath.

God does not need to rest, He rested as our example and God wants us to keep holy the same day that is holy to Him. There is nothing in scripture that tells us we should do the opposite of what God or Jesus did for our example. Jesus kept all the commandment of His Father as should we.

Jesus tells us that those who does the will of His Father will see the kingdom of Heaven. Matthew 7:21 God wrote His will for us with His own finger and wants to bless us when we obey.

Seems pretty clear that you have conflated the physical sabbath rest with the spiritual sabbath rest in Christ.

24 years ago I learned the lessons of physically resting my body for one day a week.
I was in an industry where working 7 days a week was a standard practice to ensure that projects were finished within a deadline.

Uncle Sam made lots of money in taxes, and we made lots of money on our paychecks.

After a while, we began noticing how exhausted we were, and I finally realized that I could no longer function at peak efficiency. So i told the boss no more seven day weeks for me. At first he was rather [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]ed about it but after I explained it to him he agreed and no longer asked me to do 7 days.

Ever since, I will work no more than 6 days a week.

This topic however has wandered off the real issue.

The only way we can enjoy the rest God designed us for is to put God first in our lives.

Taking one or two days a week off from work is a gimme. In the western world, it's standard. Schedules may vary, but a one to two day weekend for rest and recuperation is a gimme.

Instead of arguing about that, you should be focusing on what it means to gain rest in Christ.

Not really, but we will have to agree to disagree.

Agree which Hebrews 4 makes pretty clear. God bless

The apostle Paul tells us what love is and how to apply it.

Galatians 5:22-23
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

Hi klutedavid,

This text doesn't tell us about what love is.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Love is patient, love is kind, it is not jealous; love does not brag, it is not arrogant. It does not act disgracefully, it does not seek its own benefit; it is not provoked, does not keep an account of a wrong suffered, it does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; it keeps every confidence, it believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

The fruit of the Holy Spirit is poured into our hearts which enables us to love others.

This is a good response. However, it doesn't embrace all that love is as Jesus makes it plain that those who love Him will obey Him.

John 14:23, 24
23 Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. 24 Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.

This is really no different from what was divinely revealed in the Old Testament:

Deuteronomy 11:1
Love the Lord your God and keep his requirements, his decrees, his laws and his commands always.

Jesus also says, "Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say?"

That's as one would expect from a God who is "the same yesterday, today and forever." He "does not change like shifting shadows."

The greatest commandment is tied to keeping "his requirements, his decrees, his laws and his commands always." If someone says, "I love Him," while transgressing His commands then their actions are contradicting and reinterpreting their words.

I pray this helps.

But for the grace of God go I,cyspark

Hi bbbbbbb,

I didn't make it up. When asked which was the greatest command "Jesus replied, 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment." This loving of "the Lord your God" is tied to keeping His "requirements, his decrees, his laws and his commands."

Deuteronomy 11:1
Love the Lord your God and keep his requirements, his decrees, his laws and his commands always.

Now, you may respond that I do not know you and cannot possibly judge you indiscriminately. Although there is truth to this idea, I do know "his requirements, his decrees, his laws and his commands". These include numerous specific commands regarding, for example, what not to do on the Sabbath and what not to do on the Sabbath year and what not to do on the year of Jubilee. I would venture a guess that you willfully and flagrantly disobey all of those commandments.

Not that it should matter if you know me or not. We're simply looking at what the Bible says. We're not studying me or whether I do or do not do what the Bible says. I simply draw your attention to the truth and it is up to you now how you respond to the Holy Spirit and how He impresses the truth upon your heart.

Out of curiosity, do you believe that the apostles Peter, John or Paul were any more capable of being sinless than you or I?

I pray this helps.

Of course you did not make this up. It is there in black and white for anyone to read, as are all of the explicit commandments given by God in the Pentateuch, most of which you do not obey nor have the slightest interest in obeying. Why is that?

Hi bbbbbbb,

For some reason you seem more interested in studying me and what I may or may not do rather than adhering to Word of God. I wonder why that is?

Previously I wrote the following:

Not that it should matter if you know me or not. We're simply looking at what the Bible says. We're not studying me or whether I do or do not do what the Bible says. I simply draw your attention to the truth and it is up to you now how you respond to the Holy Spirit and how He impresses the truth upon your heart.

The Deuteronomy 11:1 text I quoted previously indicates four revealed and individually identified methods of how one is to show their love for God—requirements, his decrees, his laws and his commands. Here is how I view this:

Love
God & Man
Ten Commandments
Requirements, Decrees, Laws
Love is to be our primary focus, but how is this love to be revealed. Love is not left for us to decide how to express it. God then breaks down this love a little bit further by indicating that love is to be shown both for Him as well as our fellow humans. But again, it is not left for us to individually determine how love is to be expressed. The Ten Commandments come next and are God's perfect set of laws which provide a succinct description of how God wishes for us to reveal our love for Him (commands 1-4) and our neighbors (commands 5-10). Think of the Ten as similar to the Constitution of the United States. It is the primary law of the land. All the other "requirements, decrees and laws" are like statutes meant to provide further clarification of the Constitution/Ten Commandments.

The Ten Commandments are a set of laws which comprise—you guessed it—precisely ten commands. This set of ten laws is also identified as a covenant. Again, this covenant only contains these ten commands (see text below). The numeral attached to this covenant constrains the total. So it's not the nine commandments. Neither is it the 613 commandments. Just ten.

Exodus 34:28
Moses was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights without eating bread or drinking water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant—the Ten Commandments.

The purpose of the law is to reveal sin. It was never meant as a method of salvation. The law merely reveals when we go against God's expressed will and then our need of a Savior. If there is no law then there is no sin:

Romans 7:7-12
7 What shall we say, then? Is the law sinful? Certainly not! Nevertheless, I would not have known what sin was had it not been for the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.” 8 But sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, produced in me every kind of coveting. For apart from the law, sin was dead. 9 Once I was alive apart from the law; but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died. 10 I found that the very commandment that was intended to bring life actually brought death. 11 For sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, deceived me, and through the commandment put me to death. 12 So then, the law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous and good.

Paul is certainly not saying that the only aspect of the law that revealed sin was the commandment against coveting. When he appeals to one from the set of ten then of necessity he appeals to the entire set. In verse 12 Paul—speaking in the present tense—says this commandment "IS holy, righteous and good."

My referring you to the commandments doesn't indicate that you are to look to me as your example. Jesus is your Example and He says if you love Him you will obey Him.

I pray this helps.

10. The Sabbath in Languages of the World.
Did you know that there are flood traditions around the world? From Africa to Asia and Australia, from Europe to North and South Americas, the story of a world wide flood is a part of the tradition of the peoples in these areas. This is as one would expect for such a universally destructive event.

But did you also know that the word "Sabbath" can be found in various languages all around the world? This too is what one would expect if the Sabbath was instituted on the seventh day of creation. Just like Noah and the other seven survivors were witnesses to the flood, Adam and Eve would've been witnesses of the first Sabbath and Adam was around for 930 years to share his eye witness account to his progeny.

Here are a few languages that use the word Sabbath for the seventh day of the week:

Greek: Sabbaton (Sabbath)
Latin: Sabbatum (Sabbath)
Spanish: Sábado (Sabbath)
Portuguese: Sabbado (Sabbath)
Italian: Sabbato (Sabbath)
French: Samedi (Sabbath day)
High German: Samstag (Sabbath)
Prussian: Sabatico (Sabbath)
Russian: Subbota (Sabbath)
Congo Africa: Sabbado or Kiansbula (Sabbath)

These are a few examples from our modern languages which still identify the seventh day as the Sabbath. There are a number of ancient languages which also do the same thing. The Babylonian language—dating back to 3800 BC (or shortly after the flood)—identifies the seventh day as "Sa-ba-tu" or Sabbath. Exactly what one would expect to find embedded in this Earth's recorded history.

Jesus said, "the Sabbath was made for human beings (anthropos)." With that in mind, how do you suppose the title for the seventh day of week in so many languages around the world is Sabbath? It seems pretty self explanatory to me.

God bless!

To be specific, Jesus did not say the 7th day Sabbath was made for man..(The "Sabbath" in general)..

Sabbath means "ceased from work" or rest...

Let's read Mark 2 "in context" and find out.

Turns out it is specific to "THE SABBATH"

Mark 2:
23 And it happened that He was passing through the grainfields on the Sabbath, and His disciples began to make their way along while picking the heads of grain. 24 The Pharisees were saying to Him, “Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?” 25 And He *said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he was in need and he and his companions became hungry; 26 how he entered the house of God in the time of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the consecrated bread, which is not lawful for anyone to eat except the priests, and he also gave it to those who were with him?” 27 Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man (mankind), and not man (mankind) - made for the Sabbath. 28 So the Son of Man is Lord, even of the Sabbath.

It speaks to the making of BOTH - mankind and the Sabbath which we see in Gen 2:1-2 and Ex 20:11.

The Jewish audience listening in Mark 2 - would have know it.

All the Lev 23 annual Sabbaths only came about at Sinai and all have animal sacrifices and offers at their inception - unlike "the Sabbath" in Gen 2:1-3 that Ex 20:11 references.

In context it is not about the 7th day Sabbath - rather it is about a nation wandering in the wilderness for 40 years instead of going directly into Canaan.

However that same nation had firm and hard rules about 7th day Sabbath starting with "no manna on Saturday" and "double manna on Friday" in Ex 16 - where they were "Sabbath keeping" each week for about a year before they came to the borders of Canaan.

What is more Heb 4 tells us "SOME of them did not enter" - (as in enter Canaan) and that this was for "unbelief". But all of them were keeping Sabbath weekly - so then not just keeping Sabbath for that one year leading up to the debacle at the border with Canaan but ALSO for 40 years after... as were all those who were faithful like Moses, Caleb, Joshua etc.

Hello, Do you really think you can keep the commandments written on stones? Have a look at this 1Corins 3:6-8

Rom 8:4-12 says it is impossible for the lost to submit to the law of God "they do not and indeed CAN not submit to the Law of God" - only spirit filled Christians can do that.

"These things I write that you sin NOT" 1 John 2:1
"Sin IS (still) transgression of the Law" 1 John 3:4

Which means God really really really does not want born-again Christians to "take God's name in vain"... as surprising as that might seem.

It says "some".

Context matters.

Heb 4:
4 For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all His works”; 5 and again in this place: “They shall not enter My rest.”

6 Since therefore it remains that some must enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience, 7 again He designates a certain day, saying in David, “Today,” after such a long time, as it has been said:

“Today, if you will hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts.”

8 For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day. 9 There remains therefore a Sabbath rest for the people of God.
10 For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.
