  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The rise of menace as a mainstream political tool

It's a self fulfilling prophecy.
I'm sure that you hope it is. At least, if that were so, it might save your argument. But, alas, it's not.

The little old ladies in the pews on Sunday morning who fear for our future are not plotting any revolutions. And that's the plain truth, even if the people who want to confiscate every gun owned by peaceable gun owners want the world to think otherwise. These people you derisively called "God-fearing" are also not the people shooting 35 victims on Chicago city streets each weekend, either.

When the gun-grabbers are willing to even try to solve that very real emergency involving guns, maybe then they can make their case for disarming people who pose no threat to anyone!

Thank you for the example of fear mongering. There are a lot of possibilities between where we are now with guns and gun confiscation. Lots of folks who own guns, myself included, would like to see more regulation. But, instead of allowing for that, you go straight to the extreme. See how that works? Really, that's the act that needs to be dropped. Being extreme is neither cool nor righteous. To the contrary, it's dishonest.

Then you simply do not have enough invested in this issue for you to be analyzing it. I have attempted to fill you in with the facts, but that's about the best that can be hoped for under these circumstances.

Simply making unsupported claims is not "filling me in with the facts".

And who the heck are you talking about (carrying assault weapons into church)?

LOL. How did you get that out of a reply that describes such a perspective on this matter as a contrivance?

There are a lot of possibilities between where we are now with guns and gun confiscation.
Oh, but it is naive and a big mistake to think that confiscation is not the goal of those people.

They have already admitted to it by their outspoken admiration for the Australian model and that of several other nations, coupled with an unequivocal assertion that this is what the USA needs as well.

Lots of folks who own guns, myself included, would like to see more regulation.
Which doesn't matter, one way or the other. This is a Constitutionally guaranteed right we're talking about. If you want to work towards amending the Constitution by getting 3/4 of the states to agree to doing so, then of course that is YOUR right.

I've read the links you gave us and they do not bear out your claims.

For one thing, a law permitting concealed carry in church does not mean that all the congregants are planning on showing up fully armed.

And for another, you talked about "assault rifles." None of the articles you included in your post talked about assault weapons being permitted.

So, again, that exercise in exaggeration failed. It's not the case that a lot of people are itching to show up at church, in force, fully armed with military weapons.

Left or right, when they present an exigent threat to yourself or loved ones.
Can you name an example, besides actually going for you with a deadly weapon?

My claims that some people want to carry guns to church? Hmmm. Interesting because all those links were about states making it legal to carry guns in church. Why would they do that?

For one thing, a law permitting concealed carry in church does not mean that all the congregants are planning on showing up fully armed.

No, it means there's a small number of Christians who think Jesus was joking when he told his disciples to put away the sword. They think Jesus was pulling their leg saying that those who live by the sword shall die by the sword.

So, again, that exercise in exaggeration failed. It's not the case that a lot of people are itching to show up at church, in force, fully armed with military weapons.

Clearly you are wrong.

Well, I probably did. You just didn't like the fact that I was able to support my position. It's not uncommon for some people to fail to differentiate things they don't like from things other people didn't do.

Except that you didn't support your position. None of the links said what you claimed.

It's all there in post 67, so I will suggest again that you actually do read that post where this is all explained.

My thoughts?...If right wing radicals start burning and looting cities, will the left call them "mostly peaceful protests?" Take note on what the BLM leaders are saying about New York if their new mayor begins to enforce their laws.

I'm already listening to what the GOP are saying about January 6:

“I don’t think there’s any question that Democrats never want to let an opportunity go to waste to try to attack conservatives, and so they want to try to besmirch, smear, demean all conservatives in the name of a handful of people who did the wrong thing on Jan. 6,” Rep. Bob Good (R-Va.)

"If you didn't know the footage was from January 6, you would actually think it was a normal tourist visit," -- Senator Andrew Clyde (R-GA)

Karl: They were saying “hang Mike Pence.”

Trump: Because it’s common sense, Jon. It’s common sense that you’re supposed to protect. How can you—if you know a vote is fraudulent, right?—how can you pass on a fraudulent vote to Congress? How can you do that? -- 45th President of the United States (R) talking to reporter Jonathan Karl

So you might want to peddle that equivocation somewhere else, 'cause I ain't buying it.

So you have answered my question. If right wing radicals start burning and looting cities, the left will call them "terrorists" and "insurectionists. They would be investigated and charged by the hundreds. However, if left wing radicals start burning and looting cities, it is "social justice".

Or calling parents who speak out at school board meetings during the time that is routinely set aside for public comment "domestic terrorists." That's one of the latest examples.
Labeling these parents who speak out against CRT at school board meetings as “domestic terrorists” is the epitome of lunacy and hypocrisy!

CRT defender tells parents he's got 1,000 soldiers 'locked and loaded,' some see as threat

Forth Worth parents told Fox News that they felt threatened when a parent who defended critical race theory turned to the crowd during a school board meeting and said, "I got over a thousand soldiers ready to go," before adding, "locked and loaded," as officers escorted him out of the room.

It's unfortunate that people find violent rhetoric acceptable over their pet causes...

More unfortunate when they find actual violence acceptable...

Anti-Maskers Are Assaulting Teachers and School Leaders. What Can Be Done?

A California teacher is hospitalized after an alleged attack from a parent the teacher tried to restrain from assaulting a principal over masks in school. Anti-masking (and unmasked) protesters yell angry taunts at Kansas school officials, comparing them to the Taliban. Police respond to school board meetings in Pennsylvania and Nevada when enraged anti-mask audience members become verbally aggressive.
