In Revelation 20:7-10 (staff I meant to place this in controversial theology; my apologies)

The Bible indicates that of Satans Defeat. Which was a promise made by God in the Garden of Eden which was after Adam and Eve chose not to listen to the LORD Gods command.

Satan came up as an accuser basically deferring from the commandment of God and thus Eve being beguiled and falling into listening to a lie looked upon the tree that was commanded against not to eat and desired it so thus ate.

Why do people believe Satan is still roaming around today? Countless of numbers of people believe this.

When the Bible indicates that He is defeated.

So my question is do you believe what the Bible says in Revelation 20:7-10?

If you do why?
If you do not why?

My reason is because it is said in the Bible that it has happened. So I believe that Satan has been defeated.

Now in life this life right now today ; we are only enticed by our own lust which was the same case for eve when she desired to eat and thus did eat the fruit that was commanded not to be eaten.

And I believe God promised to defeat Him; and the Bible says he was; so thus I believe.

One more side note is that of every time a person brings up satan as their problem maker it is placing the blame on someone else just like Adam blamed God it was his fault because God gave him the wife.

There are things in the Bible that God says are finished fact.

For example, we have, first of all, the fact that Christ paid our sins, yet, there are some yet to be conceived, who have not yet sinned, yet their sins are already paid. Why, then, would Jesus suffer for their sins, if their sins are not real yet?

Also, we know that God sees those he has redeemed as a finished product: For example, in 1 Corinthians 13:12 "...Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known." Notice it doesn't say, "...even as I shall be fully known."

Another example: Hebrews 2:8 "You have put in subjection all things under his feet. For in subjecting all things to him, He left nothing unsubject to him. But at present not yet do we see all things having been subjected to him." Yet this too is a done deal.

Yes, Satan is defeated. Totally. But we don't see that as yet, since he still "roams about as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour." 1 Peter 5:8 —or do you have some passage of Scripture indicating that Peter said this before Christ defeated him?

Edit: It is worth noting, however, that indeed he IS defeated. And he knows it. He has no authority here. But he is still the deceiver, the accuser. However, I agree with you to a point, it is a mistake to blame the devil for what we do wrong. WE do it, and there is plenty of Scripture to show we do according to our own passions and lusts. No doubt the devil would be proud to claim that he made us do it, but no, our sin is OUR sin.

Thank you for your comment @Mark Quayle

What are some other peoples thoughts on these things that are presented in the original post?

What do you believe when it comes down to the Bible and the defeat of Satan?

To me I really believe He has been cast into the lake of fire and not able to go around accusing people anymore. I believe darkness still exist but Satan was defeated.

Revelations 20:1-2 and I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand and he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years. verse 7 and when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison. ( This is after Armageddon and the first resurrection and judgment which is written in verse 5. Verse 7 happens after the first Judgment of the resurrected and just before the second resurrection of the dead and judgement. He is free now to roam the Earth, seeking whom he can devour. (Sort of like what man's judicial system calls out on bond)

Yes, he has been defeated, when Jesus said he beheld Satan as the lightning fall from heaven - where it is written in the Book of Revelations, Satan and his angels were cast down to earth - states his defeat.

Satan is the only one of the fallen according to scripture that has been judged. It is written the prince of this world is judged - John 16:11. Who is the prince of this world Lucifer, the dragon, Satan, the devil - John 12:31 _ 14:30 _ Ephesians 2:2 _ 2nd Corinthians 4:4 (in which he is called God this world).

Judged and sentenced but that sentence hasn't been carried out, all the following must be judged first. Matthew 4: 3-11 Satan tried to tempt Jesus _ if he tried to tempt Jesus think of the temptations, the influences that he has over much / most of mankind.

Ephesians 6:11-18 tells us to put on the whole armor of God, because we wrestle not with flesh and blood, but against principalities, against Powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

James 4:7 tells us to resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Jude 1:9 even Michael told the devil the the Lord rebuke you, when Satan was requiring for the body of Moses.
He is out to tempt as many as he possibly can - so they too can receive the same fate as he. Either you believe in and have faith in God, you are obedient to God, you love God, or you yield to the temptations Satan has placed before you - spiritual warfare. We are spirits housed in flesh body.

God knows the beginning to the end and knows ... in fact ... satan is defeated .... but the final end has not yet happened .... whereas complete destruction of everything evil will be destroyed (including satan and his minions) ... sin never to rise again ... AMEN!

This world is still influenced by satan and that continues until Jesus returns ( I mean .... look around friend!)

There is a spiritual war going on .... that war is between God and satan (and God knows how the war ends), we are waiting until Jesus returns to pick up all the survivors.

1 Peter 5:8
English Standard Version
Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

It's not over yet .... many battles until Jesus returns and ends the war for eternity.

@SabbathBlessings I believe darkness still exist, it never went away it was there from the beginning however Satan yes he has been defeated. When it comes to looking at this world it does what it does; lust of the eyes; lust of the flesh; and the pride of life. All of us at the start of our lives where in darkness until we seen and met the light that came from God: The Son of God - Jesus Christ. ( I also do not watch the news unless I catch it on tv at my mothers; it’s boring most of the time to watch). Thank you for your comment.

@eleos1954 Thank you for your comment.

Is there anyone else out there who would like to share what they believe when it comes to Satan being defeated ? I believe Satan has been defeated and done away with. Darkness still exist though we are all part of the fallen creation stuck in darkness until we are able to see the light! (On an individualistic level).

I agree with you end side note.

Using Revelation for proof text is very tricky. It is John’s prophetic vision and not necessarily what is happening or did happen, but prophecy about what will happen in very poetic wording.

Revelation uses a lot of apocalyptic language to describe the destruction of armies, people, kingdoms, and the world, so we just cannot take everything literally.

Jesus actually saw satan and people heard demons and understood lots of people to be possessed by demons in the first century, but do we hear from demons today, any recordings of what they say?

Things have changed and satan although roaming around is not so visible.

I will say this: Do not underestimate satan.

Hello bling; you what I think about when it comes down to this notion? It’s that there is no more demon possessed people. Not like it was when Jesus Christ was walking around especially. They would come up to him, and know who he was. Where did they all go? Are people who reject God really demon possessed or something? When comes to saying did or didn’t happen I guess you would be right about that. Though isn’t the Bible true? Regardless wouldn’t it be true that the devil has been defeated? Wasn’t it one of the purposes of Jesus Christ to come and destroy the works of the devil? There is just so many questions that can come to mind. Thank you for your comment.

Thank all of your for your comments. And God bless all I’m going to bed.

The last time I've heard of demon possession cases was back in the early 90's. I think Satan has ordered his minions to lay low, because the Christians who have figured out how to deal with them are getting more common.

The thing is these demons are bound to tell the truth when facing a Christian. And that has a very damaging effect to their cause.

Not many Christians are aware that the enemy have been sowing tares among the wheat. The Devil can't prevent the spread of Christianity, so he started growing fake ones to confuse people or cause people to think it is just a religion of hypocrisy.

A demon in possession of a girl can be cornered in to spilling the beans when faced with a real Christian.

Thank you for your insights, COVID.

It seems like there may be no one on this site that really believes that Satan has been defeated? Or they believe He has but is still roaming around? Confusing.

I guess you will just have to think for yourself and ask God about it: He had left John to write this message to seven churches back then for some reason about the upcoming destruction and defeat of Satan, (Sheol/hell), and what the new Heavenly Jerusalem is on high way above this plane of existence.

I choose to believe Satan is defeated. As a Christian why would one be afraid of Him?

I would be afraid of my own self and what I am capable of doing with the flesh that serves the law of sin. In this body am capable of doing all kinds of heinous things, but thank God for the spirit of Christ that lives in us, to him and his strength to simmer the flesh down though it is very well always capable of rearing its ugly head up at any given time.

God is good, and thankfully he sent His son to help people who are stuck in darkness to be set free by being born again and to live by the spirit instead though our flesh is going to mess up and act up when it does what it does according to Paul.

Kind of an amazing debate tactic, to take count of everything but whatever else happens. I haven't read the rest of the responses, but I said he is defeated, just we don't yet see it as such, being time dependent.

Not debating generously seeking to see if anyone else believes the same way that I believe. If the Bible is to be true then wouldn’t it be that Revelation 20 all the way up to 22 would be completed rather than left unfulfilled?

I believe it is good to ask God and think for ones self and seek for truth worshiping God in spirit and truth.

what are your thoughts about this @Mark Quayle

It depends on the level of defeat you are referring to.

Is he defeated in a sense he can no longer influence the world? No, not yet.

In what ways can we consider Satan defeated?

* He lost the heavenly battle thinking "If I would have the chance to defeat God's army, this would be it...while His only Son is on earth in a human body and can't lead His army of angels to fight." But the angels, led by Michael, defeated Satan and his army.

The Lord Jesus Christ was watching that battle, and saw how Satan was thrown down from heaven like a lightning.

That was a significant defeat for Satan, because that was his last time stepping on the heavenly place.

Before the battle, Satan was at the height of his pride and overconfidence when he was able to take a third of the angels to rebel with him.

You could easily tell how prideful Satan was from the way he tried to tempt the Lord Jesus Christ into siding with him and serve him.

I believe defeated and he is no longer around; Him and his demons were thrown in the lake of fire according to what the original post alludes to by the Revelation scripture.

@covid-19v1 I agree with that but he was set loose on earth for a very short period of time according to the Bible. Was Satan to run around on this world forever? I believe He had rule and power over the world for a short period of time then his time had ran out and it was time for the Lord to defeat Him; in which Revelation 20:7-10 explicitly says where He ends up.

what are your thoughts?

No, he's not in the lake of fire yet. A lot of things have to happen before that. It includes (not limited to and not in particular order):

* rise in power of the Antichrist - control of commerce and basic necessities

* the ministry, death, and resurrection of the two powerful prophets of God

* the final battle where European and Asian armies will attack Israel

Okay, thank you for your insight @covid-19v1, My thoughts lean more to that those happened in their generation in which they saw those things come in to play. That is my opinion though and it is possible for me to be wrong, but is something I do strongly believe.
