Question: Why did Jesus leave?
Answer:
Heb 8:1 says "the MAIN POINT" is that Christ is in heaven as our High Priest in the sanctuary in heaven - as Paul points - with its two-phase service as Heb 9 reminds us.
Jesus Himself tells us that He must go - and why --
John 14:1-3 Jesus said "I GO to prepare A PLACE for you" and after that He will "come again and RECEIVE us TO Himself so that WHERE He is THERE we may be also".
As High Priest Jesus is preparing the way for us...
As infinite God a wave of the hand would cause all "things" to come about. But this is not merely about "things" ... it is about Judgment, grace, mercy, justice and knowledge of God in the Universe. It the Job 1 and Job 2 experiment at the macro level. Decisions being made in heaven affect people on Earth... "and take time".
So that involves the judgment future to the days of the Bible writers as described in Romans 2 / Daniel 7:9-10, 22 judgment in heaven that Daniel 7 says is before the second coming and after the fall of the pagan Roman empire and also after the 1260 years of the dark ages.
It takes place while saints are being persecuted on Earth - and it is where "Judgment is passed in favor of the saints" Dan 7:22 which ends the persecution of the saints on Earth according to Dan 7 and brings about the second coming (Dan 7:26-27).
It takes place in heaven while on Earth "the everlasting Gospel" message of the 3 Angels in Rev 14 goes out to all the Earth just before the Rev 16 - seven last plagues.

And for those who suggest Jesus did not leave nor is He coming back -- having not left... we have this...

And for those who suggest Jesus did not leave nor is He coming back -- having not left... we have this...
and we have this --
2 Cor 4:4
4 in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
Rev 13:
7 And there was war in heaven, Michael and his angels waging war with the dragon. The dragon and his angels waged war, 8 and they did not prevail, and there was no longer a place found for them in heaven. 9 And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. 10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying,
...12 For this reason, rejoice, you heavens and you who dwell in them. Woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has come down to you with great wrath, knowing that he has only a short time.”
1 Cor 13:
12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known.
John 14:
“Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many rooms; if that were not so, I would have told you, because I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I am coming again and will take you to Myself, so that where I am, there you also will be. 4 And you know the way where I am going.” 5 Thomas *said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going; how do we know the way?” 6 Jesus *said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me.
Acts 1
9 Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. 10 And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, 11 who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.”
2 Thess 1:
6 since it is a righteous thing with God to repay with tribulation those who trouble you, 7 and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, 8 in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Pet 1:13
rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ
NASB - fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
2 Thess 2:
Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, 2 that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come. 3 Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction,
Phil 3:20
20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,
2 Pet 3:12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?
Matt 24
29 “But immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory. 31 And He will send forth His angels with a great trumpet and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.
