  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What do you believe about January 6th?

Did Trump supporters violently take over the capitol on January 6th.

Since when is a protestor in the U.S.A. considered a traitor or subject to execution,

Since January 20, 2017.

where have our values gone.

They didn't "go" anywhere. They were traded away for a check for thirty pieces.

And then people tried to cash the check on January 6, 2021 -- it bounced.

When someone doesn't think two groups of people should both have equal justice applied to them for the same criminal acts and rails against one group then what are we to think?

And you've seen people saying that rioters who protest against police violence shouldn't be held accountable for damage done during the riots?

Personally I think people who are fixated on Trump supporters but blindly defend BLM's acts of violence

You are being awfully loose with your decree of BLM and Violence. BLM, qua BLM is not a violent movement. Yes people in riots did bad things and for that they should be held accountable. But the BLM movement is not, per se, a violent movement. In fact most of the protests are peaceful.

That being said, I have seen no one saying that a rioter who is involved in a protest against police violence who themselves do violence should NOT be held accountable.

I don't know where you are getting this idea.

Kind of makes me wonder, what qualifies as an insurrection?
Insurrection
A rising or rebellion of citizens against their government, usually manifested by acts of violence.
Under federal law, it is a crime to incite, assist, or engage in such conduct against the United States.

West's Encyclopedia of American Law, edition 2. Copyright 2008

Insurrection

Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.

Ever seen a Miami Hotel after Spring Break? The Capitol got off light.

If that is the definition, and we all acknowledge it, there is no controversy here. The event in question does not qualify as an insurrection.

Just well meaning tourists who demanded the kidnapping of government leaders with threat of greivous bodily injury to them.

But how wimpy are the REPUBLICAN LAWMAKERS who cowered in fear of mere TOURISTS! LOL.

Guards being beaten by a mob does not constitute an insurrection. Not according to the definition.
Than what does constitute an insurrection in your view , if not this?

I don’t consider myself superior to anyone but storming the Capitol based on the president’s lies is a pretty boneheaded thing to do. I don’t know what standards you think I’m ignoring but I am yet to participate in any kind of mob or riot at the behest of any political leaders.

They didn't either. No leaders told them to do anything even remotely like this. You are spreading disinformation. We've been over this many times. You and others have yet to present any evidence that Trump told them, orchestrated with them, planned with them to attack the capitol. He wasn't with them. He didn't lead them. In fact some of his last words price the lie you and others keep the throwing out there.

These guys acted on their own. Planned it in their own and carried it out on their own. They were idiots and Avery one of them belongs in jail.

Trump supporters sympathize, make excuses and condone the actions of those who broke the law. And then try to minimize it by comparing to other riots.

Please link to any post that has sympathized with the mob that attacked the capital.
Link to any post that made excuses for it or condoned it.

Your doing exactly what we accusing you of doing. Painting every Trump supporter with the same brush as those that attacked the capitol.

Do you excuse the BLM rioters?
Do you sympathize with them?
Do you excuse their actions?
Do you condone them?

I think Trump was very pleases and sympathetic with these idiots.

Half the posts in this thread sympathize, excuse. or deny what happened at the capitol on January 6th.
Look at the OP poll results. 18%.

NO I do not excuse, condone or sympathize any rioters.

He billed it as “it’s going to be wild!”

That sure doesn’t sound like a normal way to describe a normal, totally peaceful and uneventful protest.

The idea that Trump was totally oblivious to the potential violent tendencies in some of his more ardent supporters and that the rhetoric he’d been using about the election aren’t to blame at all for what happened would be laughable if it weren’t such a clear and direct threat to democracy itself in this country.

Oh good grief, aren't you one who was so against Trump speak? Trump said stuff like that all four years and you and others on the left condemned him for it etc etc. You know what a blowhard he was. Combine that with every other politician that has said similar things and what you find in a blowhard politician. His words were nothing more than Trump speak. And you know it.

But what you quoted from the President's speech was spoken to and heard by a completely different group of people.

They were not the people who broke into the Capitol.

I mean, I hold myself to the same standards and BLM as well. When BLM storms the capitol, chanting for Harris' death because she won't hand Biden the 2024 election that he lost fair and square, then I will definitely call for them to be jailed and call them insurrectionists.

BLM has been protesting being executed in the street by police. the Capitol rioters were protesting losing an election. There is a world of difference.

I see, and do you support, excuse, sympathize with or condone the BLM riots?

So, link to the posts that you claim did this. Ive read thought much of this thread and haven't found any. The poll results do not reflect people condoning, excusing or sympathizing with those that attacked the capitol. You are projecting.

And none of this is evidence of Trump planning, organizing, commanding or encouraging the people who attacked the capital to do so.
