  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What do you believe about January 6th?

Did Trump supporters violently take over the capitol on January 6th.

I think it was a minor incident that is (as usual) blown way out of proportion.
The left has played this card too many times to take anything that they claim as serious...... seriously.

If Al Qaeda terrorists threatened the congress, would you feel the same way?

In many ways, this event is worse than 9-11 as our own citizens chose to ignore the rule of law and use violent force to stop the proceedings of Congress as mandated by our Constitution.

Too little of it was the point being made there. How about answering the question that was asked?
Which political faction? I would say anyone but the Right. And why would that be? Why downplay it unless sympathetic.

A minor incident? Only because of the sheer stupidity of all involved did it not become more serious.

The Congress was attacked by supporters of the former president in an effort to stop the certification of the election results based on flat out lies that were being pushed by the former president. That’s not a minor incident. The implications that has for the integrity of the republic can’t even be assessed fully as our country never faced such a blatant and direct attack from its own federal leadership. That some of you can even think to call this a minor incident is precisely why this needs to be stressed as much as it has been and even more so.

Is Al Qaeda threatening to have its people sit at the desk of the Speaker of the House without permission and with their feet on the desk?

Or maybe scatter pieces of paper in the building?

Or smear their feces on the walls of Congress?

Your downplaying of what happened Jan 6 says a lot about what you value as an American. That day was a turning point in American politics and those who continue to downplay or even reject what happened will continue to lose elections as they deserve to. We need Americans and leadership who believe in our system of government, not ones who try to discredit the system when it doesn’t suit them.

The fact is..... it didn't amount to much at all. The left is akin to crying wolf over this thing I doubt most of the people there were armed with even pea shooters. The faux outrage is mind blowing to me on this.

It’s only because you sympathize with the attackers that you see it this way. If the were BLM or Islamic radicals and this had happened under a Democratic administration, you’d all be screaming from the rooftops over this “minor incident”.

That's exactly what two groups of people have been saying about the events of January 6 --

1. Those who know little or nothing about American history, and

2. Those who have fabricated a false version of the "event" for partisan political purposes.

Or maybe scatter pieces of paper in the building?

How is smashing windows to get into the Capitol building, spreading feces on the walls, breaking into the offices of Congress members, stealing items from said offices, chanting "Hang Mike Pence!" and building gallows outside the Capitol building nothing more than a minor incident? Please feel free to explain. I think it's a very good thing that the DOJ and the FBI don't consider the siege on the Capitol a minor incident and the treacherous insurrectionists are being arrested and charged (i.e. Tennessee man with zip ties at Capitol could face charges of sedition, other felonies after riot, prosecutors say).

Wow. Our nation is doomed.

America...you will be missed.

I wonder if when Rome fell it was due to a general abandonment of common reality?

We had a BLM protest here and I didn't make too much of it after a few evenings watching it live a little in the background while doing other things I got bored with it and consider it a minor incident as no deaths and I didn't hear of any serious injuries to non protesters or anyone only some criminal acts of vandalism and looting went on and the police handled it normally as far as I know. I don't really see a protest the size of that of Jan 6 that got a little out of hand anything extraordinary other than an officer? killed someone and another officer died I think of a hard attack or stroke or something to have that few issues and no burning and it seems almost no looting to me is better results from a "riot" than expected. To propagate the notion these people are terrorists and put the full weight of the media and government down on them is irresponsible.
I recall shows old westerns where someone was accused of murder and a few "bad apples" riled everyone up and had them convinced that the person was guilty and that the law would let them off and they had to take justice in their own hands. The left is IMO acting just like those bad apples these days convicting people without their day in court everyone is guilty and more guilty if they aren't a BLM supporter than a Trump supporter when it comes to "protests" and "riots".

I think the media needs to shut up and leave the guilt to the justice system and stop tainting the potential jurors to the point of making them think like a lynch mob.

Unlike the protestors (ahem..."tourists") on Jan 6th, right?

Appealing to emotion won't stand up as evidence in a court of law, and that is where the truth will likely come out and the seriousness will be discussed NOT in the court of opinion.

The truth is coming out and that's why 479 people have been charged in the Capitol insurrection so far. And I'm sad to say that 41 of these charged treacherous insurrectionists are Texans.

Justice Dept. now expects to charge more than 500 in Capitol riot probe

100 days later, the FBI has arrested more than 400 Capitol insurrectionists. About 10% are from Pa.
