Revelation 19:19 And I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army.

The above Scripture describes the War of Armageddon, which is a real war due to mere mentioning of the "earth".

Now, the word, "earth" implies the engagement of conventional military forces, therefore, Armageddon must be seen as a conventional military conflict (which has a spiritual dimension of course), so that the war itself must be interpreted in a literal sense.

However, there are some who still pretend that Armageddon is only figurative (although they themselves don't actually believe it), because their agenda is clearly to avert WW3 and the all out foreign invasion of their country.

Please discuss.

Apocalyptic literature is not intended to be taken literally.

"Apocalyptic literature is written in symbolism, poetry, and imageries,"

Not all of it is symbolism. The Encyclopedia doesn't actually say that ALL of it is symbolism.
That would depend on which if any of the major views you have of the Book of Revelation. I was just trying to give you some information, not make my case.

I guess everyone's definition of 'real' will each be defined by how 'real' the spiritual realm is to them. Just because we don't completely understand the spiritual realm does not mean that it is less real than the physical one we tangibly experiencce, or that we aren't affected by the spiritual realm in the slightest. Far from it.

Shalom.

There can still be a WW3, which there likely will be eventually, without it having to be Armageddon. There have already been 2 world wars and neither of them were Armageddon.

Hi Armageddon is not isolated from all the other scriptures regarding the end of one age and the dawn of the new. In Zech 14 we see when the LORD comes He melts literal enemies who have overrun Jerusalem. The Mt of Olives is said to split in two create a new river one of the forks goes east which would end up in the dead sea. We are told this river flows year round and also a new valley is created at this same time with very specific boundaries. You see in Ezekile 47 that the dead sea is healed and to be a prosperous fishing area and at this same time the 12 tribes of Israel get their promised inheritance in the land of the covenant.

Armageddon is a valley that Join Megido and Jezreel and is also the same place as the Jezreel valley. Now in Hosea we are told on the day of Jezreel that those called not my people (Israel) will be called sons of the living God. There is so much fulfilled and it is a literal fulfillment and if you consider Luke 1 you see Jesus does in the tribulation accomplish these prophecies made in Luke.

Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”

67 Now his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying:
68 “Blessed is the Lord God of Israel,
For He has visited and redeemed His people,
69 And has raised up a horn of salvation for us
In the house of His servant David,
70 As He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets,
Who have been since the world began,
71 That we should be saved from our enemies
And from the hand of all who hate us,
72 To perform the mercy promised to our fathers
And to remember His holy covenant,
73 The oath which He swore to our father Abraham:
74 To grant us that we,
Being delivered from the hand of our enemies,
Might serve Him without fear,
75 In holiness and righteousness before Him all the days of our life.
This before and after picture is seen with a literal fulfillment of the promises.
