  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I was just now reading a post, and reading the first paragraph I was thinking, "WHAT AN ABSOLUTE IDIOT!!!,

then I got to the next paragraph, and realized, "No, I was just reading that paragraph out of context"

On reading further, I was thinking, "Wow! This guy is GOOD! He thinks just like ME! I could have said that!"

Beginning the next paragraph, again I began thinking, "No. no, NO! --Who is this guy, anyhow??!"

When I began again to think he sounded like me, I checked and sure enough!!! I'm the fool !!! I'm the one who had written the post I was criticizing!

I find this hilarious.

Does this sound familiar?

Not judging others and forgiving yourself takes a lot of practice.
You are on the right path to self-awarness.

Yep. There's a good reason this site restrains excessive hyperbolic criticism!

This is why it is CRITICAL to read the ENTIRE Bible passage instead of random verses to make a point.

Context is everything. Even one typo can change the entire context of an essay's paragraph.

One personal example is someone twisting the Parable of the Lost Sheep to justify kicking me out of their group. Because I understood the historical, geographic, and theological context of that parable, I knew for a fact that person relied on my ignorance of Scripture to "win" a debate against me. Give God the glory for this false prophet getting exposed.

Read, study, and KNOW Scripture, preferably on a daily basis.

Just in case you didn't pick up on my point --I was the one who had written the post I was assessing!

I have no idea of what your talking about. Your gonna have to elaborate more on what happened. I merely posted the verse because we are not to call brothers as fools. We should certainly not say that to ourselves, either. For we are to love others as ourselves.

Sorry I wasn't clear. I will have to edit my first post.

I am the one that wrote the post I had been criticizing, then admiring, then repeating the cycle while reading it; I was the one I had been considering 'an idiot'.

Yeah I was talking to my mom on the phone when I started getting frustrated saying “ Ughh where is it?!!” My mom asked what are you looking for I said I can’t find my phone. She’s like really are you serious and I’m like yeah I can’t find it anywhere!! I kept looking for it while for almost 5 minutes before I finally found it in my hand pressed against me ear. Lol Guess what they say is true “out of sight out of mind” duh

Edit: the worst part was my mom being a smart alec saying oh you finally found it? Where was it? Ughh

I'm only thankful that this has been a problem since before I was old. I think I am thankful for that, haha. But it hasn't improved with age.

Yep, I can only do one thing at a time. When I try to do two, uh, well....
Even if driving, I have to pull over to talk safely.

They say it is evidence of age, when a driver has to turn down the radio to see clearly!

The bible says to love your neighbor as yourself, to me that means however you treat yourself is how you should consider treating others (if not better). This can mean if you "go easy" on yourself with criticism then you should do likewise with others otherwise you are loving yourself and not others. There are also people I think who have the problem of loving others but not themselves as they are way more critical of themselves than others around them. There is a balance that has to be sought and it isn't a 1 to 1 even steven balance for everyone but it shouldn't be too lopsided otherwise either hypocrisy arises or self destruction.

Yeah, haha there's always someone to make serious a light-hearted moment! But yes, you are right. I have a lot of bad habits.

Sometimes, identifying with the truth has a way of exalting a person's self-esteem past what is due, specially in assessing the thinking of those who appeal to what is false. I suppose it is the absolute (and right) pleasure of finding something as satisfying as truth, that gives the confidence in one's thoughts (not quite so right).

Reminds me of someone I know of whom I used to say, "He can change opinions in mid-paragraph without losing any of his vehemence!" In fact, I have found it quite usual that upon finding out one is wrong, the new opinion is even more enthralling! Retrospection takes a far back seat. This is part of why I enjoy laughing at myself so.

Yes it does, I do that all the time and find it embarrassing that I don't recognize my own post.
It reminds me of times when I have looked at a picture of some kind and not recognizing myself.

JS: about a year ago I was searching on-line for a Biblical study but finding weak arguments. Then I hit one that was pretty good. I sounded like something my husband and I might have written. When I got to the bottom there were our names....

So yes it highly familiar.
