  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A Sense of Certainty

A SENSE OF CERTAINTY

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him. (1 John 5:14-15, NIV)

This confidence is the foundation of our walk with the Lord. But where does this “sense of certainty” come from and how does it come to us?

  • Is it something that is dropped into our hearts by the Holy Spirit from time to time?
  • Is it produced by studying and absorbing the written Word of God (Psalm 1:1-3)?
  • Is it created as we as we experience the truths of the Word of God we have studied working their way out in our everyday life, thus becoming the “living word” in us (John 6:63)?
  • Does it grow as we develop a real and meaningful life of prayer, meaning that we pray, expect to receive what we have asked for and then actually receive what we have asked for?
  • Is it the product of a deepening personal relationship with our Saviour? Paul did pray that the Ephesians be given the Spirit of wisdom and revelation so that they would “know him better” (Ephesians 1:17).

I would venture to suggest that it is a combination of all of these (and probably others of which we are not conscious) being worked together by the Holy Spirit as he transforms us into the “image of Christ” (2 Corinthians 3:18). It is God, after all, who is working in us to “will and to act according to his good purpose“ (Philippians 2:13).

It is to the glory of God as you and I manifest the “certainty” of our faith.
If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. (John 15:7-8, NIV)

Are you looking for a sense of certainty?
This is what we have heard:
He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake. -Psalms 23:3

Seek the Lord’s leading ! We find our sense of certainty.

The sense of confidence we can have in God is explained in the verse you posted.
Let me teach it, so that its seen more clearly.. by paraphrasing it.

If we ask God anything.... as His Blood Bought Redeemed Children. ... > Then it is His will that He will answer, as that is God's perfect will for His beloved.

So, God answers prayer because that is His WILL, ... its His own perfect will that He answer them for you.

In other words, He answers them, not because we deserve it, but because He WANTS TO all the time, as that is HIS WILL....

See it?

So, you can always have confidence in God to answer your prayers, not because you deserve it, but because its His perfect own will that He answer them.
Thats LOVE.
God answers our prayers, because its God's will for Himself to answer them, because He loves you so much.

The NT explains this as :>... IF God has given us His Son, then surely its His will that He answer your prayers and take care of you.
