From an EU perspective - the EU is pretty much united on this - it was sad to see the US caught up in all this election chaos, with a childish incumbent making wildly untrue claims from the White House as his supporters gathered in the streets to demand that the very basis of democracy – counting votes – is halted. I'm glad we will now have a sane person in the White House. Congratulations US!

Not likely. The GOP looks like it held onto the Senate (50-48 with two runoffs in Georgia), so all of the nation-killing plans of The Squad are probably on hold. Even if by some miracle the Democrats were to win both Senate runoffs (unlikely, especially with Perdue's seat) Joe Manchin isn't going to support things like ending fossil fuels nor will he or Feinstein support ending the Senate's legislative filibuster. Mr. Biden can probably get the Trump tax cuts repealed for the wealthy or extremely high earners, but the across the board changes to the nation are not happening.

I'm not sure how much of that Biden even wants. He really is a centrist. I'm a progressive myself, but I think at the moment the priority is to tone down the conflict, and I'd be willing to compromise the progressive agenda to do it.

And in a few weeks I think there is a decent chance that the people who are cheering now will be crying or screaming at the heavens like 4 years ago....

Be still my beating heart! I never thought it would happen but a Clintonian cry is welling up within me, "No matter what happens, DO NOT CONCEDE President Trump!"

Of course, if Biden actually won I would not say that. But there isn't a snowball's chance that he did apart from massive fraud and shenanigans. Trump knows this and isn't going to allow it without a fight.

What I see coming is a gigantic gridlock. Trump will appoint as many conservative judges as he can before he leaves, in offices where they can't be voted out, & would have to be convicted of a high crime to be otherwise removed.

But Biden & Mitch ARE old friends, & that might help him, long as he doesn't listen to the "Progressives" & thus try to push silly stuff through.

I think that one of the first issues of contention will be be high school locker rooms (after the coronavirus is resolved).
A majority of parents will not allow their daughters to share them with trans-"women" or sons, trans-"men." High school students are still minors, so that legal contention will fall to parents.

Law vs. modesty outrage will loom large. I anticipate a lot more home-schooling and parent-backed truancy issues.

Sadly, the only way (or hopeful) for people to understand how insane that law is, is for them to actually experience the error. Hard lessons are sometimes the only way.

It's not clear how much the President will get involved. The Supreme Court seems to understand existing law as protecting trans rights. The argument for that was textualist, so the new justice will likely agree. I guess the justice department could go around suing schools, but I don't see Biden doing that. It's likely to be dealt with locally.

I don't see him being very involved in abortion either. That's also between the states and the Supreme Court.

why would they be ? That make absolutely no sense!! Trans people think they are the opposite sex . A trans woman might not be attracted to other women and the same for a trans man with other men.
