McConnell Statement on the Passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg | Republican Leader

Mitch McConnell has already straight up admitted he intends to rush a Supreme Court nominee through the Senate, ahead of the election. Even as he admits he stonewalled the previous nomination ahead of the 2016 election.

If you Google the political procedures for Supreme Court nomination, there are all kinds of circus show, involving "nuclear options", showmanship ahead of Congress's own elections, and such. Looking forward to all the things we are about to hear "the left" is doing.

Goodbye America. Democracy was nice while it lasted.

Since when have supreme court nominations been fair and unbiased? The judges are biased so why do you expect their selection to be anything else?

Also, if you read Mitch McConnell's statement right there on Senate.gov, it says the Senate is committed to Trump's agenda. And that Trump's agenda is the reason they'll do it.

That is straight up totalitarian rule. No checks-and-balances whatsoever. The Senate, by Mitch's admission on a government website, works for Trump. The Supreme Court works for Trump.

Goodbye America. Democracy was nice while it lasted.

"Democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security, or the rights of property; have in general been as short in their lives as they are violent in their deaths." --James Madison, Federalist Papers (# 10)

Maybe this will be a start to getting back to being a Republic.

Didn't Obama once say to about the other side "We don't mind the Republicans joining us. They can come for a ride, but they gotta sit in back."

So the real question is does the other side have the Constitutional legal right to pursue the filling of the SC seat, YES or NO. The answer is YES.

Is it therefore the end of democracy or the end of the Republic by making use of one's legal right? No. Legal is Legal. Some might be upset that it happens but it's still legal and would the Dems do anything different if it were reversed? I hardly think so.

America is not a democracy. It is a constitutional republic. It is very far removed from that, but we are not a democracy.
As one of the founders said, democracy is like two wolves and a lamb deciding what to have for dinner. And as Ben Franklin said when asked what form of government was set up, "A republic, if you can keep it."
Unfortunately, we are losing it.

I will let your argument that America is not a democracy speak for itself

There enough Republican senators running for reelection in tight races (plus two who sometimes have consciences--Romney and Murkowski) so that they may hesitate to do something so blatantly dishonest and hypocritical as to vote in a nominee one month before Election Day. Gardner is going against a popular governor in a newly blue state, Colorado. He will be toast for sure if he caves. McSally is behind in Arizona, going against an astronaut and husband-of-the-year to his heroic wife, Gabby Giffords...and if she loses, having been appointed, she's replaced November 4. Loeffler in Georgia, insider trader and WNBA owner, despised by WNBA for racist statements, and also an appointee...

Lindsay Graham in a tight, tight race...and he is on record saying he would never confirm a new judge this close to an election. Susan Collins, who is also pretty much toast, down 12...her only chance is to show her independence.

People ask "Who will Trump pick?" Basically, if he could find a law school Doogie Howser who began his career as a teenager he'd pick him. Instead, two of his short listers are senators in their early forties--Cruz (yuck) and Cotton (yuckiest.)

Democrats will have an alternative if they win both houses and the presidency (and they will certainly be mobilized...) Expanding the court.

Hmmm, politicians playing politics, and the peanut gallery overreacting. Shocker.

What is undemocratic about it? The people via the Electoral College elected Trump and the Senate has a majority Republican membership. The new nominee gets a vote and democracy wins the day.

I don't view that as an excuse. It's simply the nature of politics.

It's called corruption. You're supposed to be not okay with that. Very simple:. before the rule was, "Let's wait until the new President comes into office, and let him pick ". Then Trump is up, and suddenly the rule is "amended". Now you want to ram a candidate through.

But instead, not surprisingly, all the same players just laugh it off. "Ha ha, it's just politics.".

The people voted the SENATE to represent THEIR STATES. Not Trump. It's called checks and balances. But if you don't want it anymore, watch what you ask for
