Correct. Black troops landed on the beaches on D-day but you never hear about them. I understand that the black pilots who flew US fighters were barred from the segregated officers club until one of the bomber pilots whose plane they saved insisted that they be allowed in so he could buy them a drink. Even Doris Miller was ignored until the black press made a big deal about it. Of course now we are learning that the OP was wrong and the murals are not even depicting WWII
I've never heard of the white troops landing at Normandy either just the troops. That includes everyone.

No one is proposing burning this art, or destroying it! Please explain why simply taking it down or moving it is an offense. It’s artwork, most institutions change the artwork in their public spaces from time to time. Why is this any different?
Also, let me throw this at you. If I went to an all black school and I saw artwork of black kids and black people on the walls, do you think they would take me seriously if I asked for there to be white people in it because it's too black? Nope, they'd laugh at me and call me racist. Think of that one. This whole BLM "movement" is reverse racism. It sort of irritates me. One of my friends who lives in your "lovely" city (sorry) in Oregon had to put "I am black" signs all on the windows of his bar just so BLM wouldn't break in and ruin his business and steal everything and break everything even though he is white. Down the whole street there were businesses destroyed my friend told me. People were stealing shoes, setting fires, recording videos, spray painting 'BLM' and other things on everything. Later he told me that white people were bowing down to black people. Strangest thing ever! My friend was scared beyond belief and moved to Pennsylvania with me. I gladly welcomed him in my home.

This whole thing is insanity! Truly!!!

Name one D-day movie that depicts black troops landing on D-day. The movie The Longest Day shows 0. The book upon which it was based likewise fails to discuss any black units.

George Orwell must be laughing himself into fits. He has been proven to be a prophet: "1984", with its constant revision of history, has become a reality.

Not so most of the veterans of World War II, who fought so hard and suffered so much, to make sure we didn't have to live in the type of system depicted in "1984". They're probably absolutely sick.

The students and staff involved in this moronic, hare-brained removal scheme are not fit to be used as bum fodder by any one of those veterans. Those students and staff are a disgrace, not even fit to be called Americans.

First we'd have to establish whether any black troops were part of the assault waves. Which is what is mostly depicted in movies.

There is more to this than moving it. There is an entire generation dedicated to this nonsense. A generation that sees everything as offensive if it doesn't have certain types of people in it represented together. Also, in this case, you have to destroy the artwork to remove it. Might as well put Karl Marx himself on there along with a companion writer Adam Smith who wrote Wealth Of Nations which goes nicely (sarcasm) with the Communist Manifesto. I'm sure everyone there in that school reads those 2 books almost daily. I have no hope for this generation. Zero. People who have race ingrained in their minds have already been lost to the seas by PC nonsense. They are told not to think of race yet they see and identify it which goes against what they said. They hate white people, it's BLM Marxist nonsense with the lie that white people suppress everyone. Americans truly make up the most horrible lies. There is no suppression, it's just artwork. Keep it. It's not hurting anyone.
You didn’t answer the question. What is so special about this art that it can’t be updated with something the students prefer? And why do you think it has to be destroyed to replace it? When is it appropriate and not appropriate to change the artwork in a room? Can they never do renovations?

Why would we have to establish whether they were there—it is a known fact. The black 320 Barrage Ballon Battalion was part of the first wave.

Someone said that it would have to be destroyed to be removed but offered no evidence to support that. Art does get moved. The famous statue depicting George Washington at the bath was originally in the capitol, then was moved outdoors and now is in the Smithsonian.

Can they do renovations? Sure, but there is a political motive in this case.

Can the students prefer something else? Sure, but that is because there is a political motive behind it because the students are told Marxist nonsense.

When is it appropriate to change artwork? I guess when the students have been brainwashed like now.

Why do I think it needs to be destroyed? Because it's part of the wall. You can't just pop it off. It needs to be removed in a more destructive way to get it off because it's painted on. You don't just pop painted bricks off of the wall or drywall. Might as well paint over it now that I think about it. After all, if you're white, you're wrong? Can I get an amen, anyone? ...Good grief...

Based off the threat title and article I don't think they should be removed because of the reasons given. There's art that's 500 years old that people still find beautiful.
I didn’t see a reason given in the article. Maybe you can explain? I agree there is much old art that is beautiful. I’ll point out that much of that old art has been moved around over the years.

So your complaint is with those movie makers, etc.

This is about stupidity at the U. of R.I. And that's not to mention the insult to the WW2 veterans of all races this decision delivers, as well as the kick in the teeth of the 95 year old alumnus of URI and veteran who painted these works.

A recent documentary made after there was a movement to make up for past wrongs.
Did it make up for it?

Movies usually focus on a particular Battalion etc. Also movies have no authority. How is being depicted in a movie going to show respect for soldier's service?

I'm grateful to everyone who served.

Since it was a mosaic of school life in the 50's, the replacement should probably be a mosaic of school life in 2020.
everyone should be yellow like in the Simpsons. Lets not even have accurate skin color. Then no one would complain.

It seems like if you want to make stuff about people then everyone has to throw their hat in the ring or complain about it.

I’m confused, is this an all-white school?

And what street in Portland is that? What bar? I’m not aware of any bars or restaurants here being looted, or of a whole street of businesses being destroyed. We had looting at the very beginning, of some of the big corporate retail places.
