  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is Harris really a moderate?

If that were so, you'd have a point. Sure, he mouths generalities in TV commercials and tries to repeat what his advisors tell him so say, but anyone can do that.

If he actually campaigns...and debates, live, face to face, with the President...we can return to this and see who between us was the more accurate.

That is going to happen, why would you imagine it wouldn't? Biden hasn't tried to get out of having debates, he wants debates.

Seriously all you guys are doing to feeding into a false narrative until you start believing things that are completely fictional.

"Court packing" means increasing the size of a court to instantly achieve a majority. So if there are five conservatives and four liberals on the Supreme Court, Harris would change the size of the court to 11, adding two liberals to the Court.
I don't see it happening because it just creates an "arms race" given that neither party stays in power for more than a few years. After fifty years, the court will be the size of the Kardashians and equally as unpleasant to watch.

But, I appreciate your concern and clarification. I don't see the court being increased as likely.

Heitcamp and Donnelly are not in Congress, so you are down to two (!) out of the whole Democratic delegation in the Senate. That disproves the contention pretty effectively.

Sounds reasonable. Are there any?

I guess it depends on what 'the contention' was. You asked are there any, and the answer is yes.

LOL, the current administration and party have run hard on court-packing, so neither side can complain about the tactic itself. It's a matter of which side one wants doing the packing.

In recent history, one party has actually violated the rules for approving Supreme Court justices, so if you're going to complain about influencing the balance of the courts, those who've actually done it should be first in line.

That's why I mentioned in the post "it's same thing that concerns me about Trump".

However, increasing the seats in the supreme court has been much been universally considered "off-limits" since FDR tried to do it in 1937 and failed. (along with other things like trying to set age limits on supreme court justices to get rid of the specific ones that weren't in-line with his plans)

Sorry but this is pure nonsense. Biden has wanted the presidency for decades and the idea he's going to just hand it over to someone else after a few months is complete fiction. Seriously, where does this kind of silliness even come from?

Political analysts from both sides of the fence seem to think it's a real possibility...

https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/2020/08/07/why-bidens-vp-pick-is-different-any-other/

The chances that he would die in office — purely as an actuarial matter — are greater than they were for Presidents Barack Obama (47 on assuming office), George W. Bush (54), Bill Clinton (46), the elder George Bush (64) or Trump himself.

Age need not be a defining characteristic for a president; everyone gets old differently. But the science is clear that mental decline often, though not always, accompanies one’s advancing years. Research suggests that 77 is well past the ideal age to assume such a difficult job; studies find that 16 to 23 percent of Americans over 65 show some form of cognitive impairment.

That combined with the fact that he referred to himself as a "transition" player in the game on more than one occasion has people wondering.

Like it or not, the GOP is now the party of Trump.

I think that's only true in terms of certain federal level cronies...there are still plenty of reasonable and moderate republican that are governors (and even several in the house of reps for certain states).

...and those voters can certainly be won if the right kind of candidate(s) are run by the democrats.

Perfect example:

How Mass. voted for governor...

How they voted for president...
upload_2020-8-14_18-56-27.png

Or even in my own state of Ohio...

There are a lot of places in the country where there are republicans who are more than happy to oppose republicans like Trump...if the right alternative is available.

He may well die in office, but he’s certainly not going to just win and then hand it over a few months later.

Certainly it is possible to find such places, but that's the case with all presidents.

Surveys do show, however, that support among Republican voters for the president and for the candidates he has endorsed is higher than comparable figures for other presidents.

It's crazy how people have Biden dead, but not Trump. Both are on the older side. I see no evidence, that Biden didn't do his job well. When he was a vice president. And with all the crap Trump has tried to pull on him. To dirty his name. I'm surprised Biden made it this far in being sane.

Yeah, like the fantasy that Biden, off his own bat, withheld aid from Ukraine to get his son out of a jam? No evidence. Plenty of evidence to the contrary, though.

Either of the gentlemen seem to have a short shelf life, so the VP is important.

Have you noticed the way Biden does extensive exercise like bike riding while Trump sits in a golf cart eating McDs? Seriously, when was the last time you saw Trump actually exercising?
