People immigrate to various countries. Lots of people immigrate to Europe, Canada, etc.

You don't really think that the U.S. is the only country people immigrate to do you?

I would think, if you are coming all the way from Asia and Africa to lend here instead of Europe and Canada, you must think the US is the best option there is. You are going to go all those miles for a lesser option? LOL

Huh? Were you not paying attention to all the pandemic politics from just a couple months ago?

There were plenty of protests against protective pandemic measures. Such protesters even engaged in things like arming themselves to enter government buildings.

This was very much a "culture war". Though it appears that some people's memories of these events are now hazy.

(In other news, the Christian right in the U.S. has long waged culture wars and those tend to be dominated by Republicans. If you think Republicans are immune to fueling culture wars, then you're oblivious to your own country's politics and cultural climate.)

How many minority businesses were burnt to the ground?
How many injuries were there?
With all those guns, how many people got shot?
How many streets were blocked and drivers attacked?

That is the difference.

Well, according to the Steele Dossier, there are other things that get him "personally excited," but he can't exactly display that in front of a crowd, now can he?

The unverifiable $12,000,000 document paid for by Hillary and the DNC? The political hit pice that its author stated could not be verified? The false report that was manipulated with edited documents to start the FISA warrants that began the whole Russia fiasco?

That Steele Document?

I was just pointing out the irony of Trump trying to ban people coming to the U.S. and now the rest of the world is doing the same to America.

It seems like a fitting way to bookend Trump's presidency.

The European Union closed its boarders globally. It is a grievous error the way you stated it.

Those from Canada, Mexico etc could not travel to the EU either

Ahem:

The European Union announced Tuesday that it will reopen its borders to travellers from 14 countries, but most Americans have been refused entry for at least another two weeks due to soaring coronavirus infections in the U.S.

Travellers from other big countries with high infection rates, like Russia, Brazil and India, will also miss out.

Citizens from the following countries will be allowed into the so-called EU+ area and four other nations in Europe's visa-free Schengen travel zone: Algeria, Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, Montenegro, Morocco, New Zealand, Rwanda, Serbia, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia and Uruguay.

The EU is beginning to relax its border closures. Just not for the U.S. (among other hard-hit coronavirus countries).

So it's not about culture wars then. That was clearly just a red herring.

I can't speak to every single individuals' immigration cases and why they end up where they end up.

I'm just pointing out the fact that people immigrate all over. And that just because some people immigrate to the U.S. doesn't necessarily mean it's the "best" country.

The rest of the world is not doing the same to America. Unless you think Europe is "the rest of the world." Didn't Trump ban travellers from Europe at some point? And how long do you think the European ban will last? We may have to ban them again. Who knows who is bannable inext n this fluid situation?

The EU is starting to relax their border restrictions. However, citizens of countries that are hard-hit with rising coronavirus cases (e.g. the U.S.) will still not be allowed to travel there.

The World Builds a Wall to Keep America Out

There is very much a similar sentiment in Canada right now. We want the U.S. border to stay shut for as long as possible. Canadians view the U.S. as a danger zone right now.

Ok. I guess they just threw a coin up in the air to decide where they wanted to travel thousands of miles for to emigrate.

Or they just put a variety of country names in a hat and blindfolded, they picked out America! That's where I will go!

I can see them telling me, "It was not the place I really wanted to go. It was just an inny minny manny mo choice."

Your strawman caricature is noted.

This still has nothing to do with the fact that there are no metrics by which America is "best" as a country.

STOP.

People who go to the trouble and hassle of trying to emigrate to the US really, REALLY want to come to the US. To claim otherwise is disingenous.

I never said otherwise.

Let's wind back a bit. The original comment I was replying to was this:

People know who's the best. That's why so many try to get in.

I was simply pointing out that just because people are immigrating to the U.S. does not imply that the U.S. is the best country. That's it.

Immigration simply is not a good metric for that.

How many minority businesses were burnt to the ground?

You've brought that up a couple times in this thread. Since you clearly care so much, here is a directory of black-owned businesses in your area, for you to support,

Updated: Black-owned business guide

You're not far from the site of one of the worst race massacres in US history, one that specifically targeted black-owned businesses, so it would be particularly meaningful if you were to stand by your purported convictions. Otherwise, you're just engaging in moralistic bloviating.

How many injuries were there?
With all those guns, how many people got shot?
How many streets were blocked and drivers attacked?

That is the difference.

A more important difference is that the cause for the Lansing protests was booger-eatingly stupid, born of the mindset that a global pandemic is a matter of political opinion, and costing 130,000+ lives in the US so far. Not to mention many businesses closing.

But, set that aside.

I take it that if people protesting for police reform were to copy the model of what happened in Lansing, by arming themselves en masse and occupying government buildings for their cause, you would be totally ok with that?

Ok.

What is the "best" country to you?

Nevermind. I don't care what's the best country to you.
The US is the BEST country to me. For now. Who knows what it might be 5 years from now if the left gets its way.
