  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If anyone is interested this series of articles might be worth some discussion. I'd love to see some response from the conservative Anabaptist community.

Proto-Protestantism: Anabaptist Storm Clouds on the Horizon (Part 1)

One of the difficulties is that the Anabaptist community today is exceedingly broad and diverse. I am quite certain that none of the Amish and related folks at the traditional end of the spectrum would have the slightest interest in varying their theology, nor would they even know about any other Christian groups other than their own. The Mennonites, likewise, vary even more widely such that some at the liberal end of their spectrum may be looking outside their community for better theological insights. That leaves out, of course, the Dunkard Brethren, the Grace Brethren, and the former Evangelical United Brethren (now United Methodist) to mention only three, none of whom would have much, in any, interest in this now-outdated theology.
