We are still in the first 400 years of treatment of Black Americans, so that invalidates your point. And the mistreatment you are referring to was to the predecessors of the majority of the current people of color. I’m not saying racism doesn’t exist anymore, but it is not “systemic” and it doesn’t mean people of color now need to be handed a leg up in order to be successful, and it definitely doesn’t mean we need to get rid of police, prisons, and the justice system.
Your posts want America to return back to the "good old days" when people knew their place but nostalgia for that "golden age" is limited to just one racial group!

The problem is that for other "visible minorities" those days never existed and based on every social and economic metric they continue to be "2nd class" citizens! in the 21stC!

"Bumble Bee" may have concerns for her sons, but generations of "black" and "brown" parents have had a different conversation with their sons - based on past experience, the police and other government authorities were not their "friends" and their young male children had a bad habit of ending up dead for little or no apparent reason while under their supervision!

That all depends on what you think the problem is.

The problem is poor leadership within and outside of the black community.

Things have steadily improved for blacks on the whole, but these recent events threaten that progress. Advocates and activists should give that some thought. It does little good to win a battle if it costs you the war.

Given that the peaceful leaders of the "black" community have a bad habit of either being assassinated and/or failing to provide their people with tangible results, is it any wonder that when government authorities allow those who favored non-violent changes to be discredited, they are only encouraging the more radical factions to replace them!

When the peaceful leaders of the "black" community have a bad habit of being killed and/or fail to provide their people with tangible results, the government authorities, in their infinite wisdom, have in effect have discredited those favored non-violent change and encouraged the more radical factions to replace them!

The 'peaceful' black leaders haven't done their homework, or are ignoring it. They fail to see what is right in front of them. They deem as failure one of the great successes won by their people...the opportunity to advance through higher education.

Its been 155 years since Emancipation - as recently as 1967 interracial marriage was still illegal in 19 states!

- the black-white wealth gap has not recovered from the Great Recession.
In 2007, immediately before the Great Recession, the median wealth of blacks was nearly 14 percent that of whites. Although black wealth increased at a faster rate than white wealth in 2016, blacks still owned less than 10 percent of whites’ wealth at the median

- African Americans face systematic challenges in narrowing the wealth gap with whites. The wealth gap persists regardless of households’ education, marital status, age, or income. For instance, the median wealth for black households with a college degree equaled about 70 percent of the median wealth for white households without a college degree. The gap worsens as households grow older. In 2016, blacks between 50 and 65 years old and near retirement had only about 10 percent of the wealth of whites in the same age group. This is down from the approximately 24-percent gap in 1998, when the same groups of people were between 32 and 47 years old.

- according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, for example, black mothers and children die at disproportionately higher rates than their white counterparts, regardless of their income levels. Researchers have suggested that racism—which has produced segregated neighborhoods with fewer hospitals, higher rates of chronic illnesses, and unequal access to health care—is the main culprit

Perhaps "OldWiseGuy" would be so kind as to produce concrete data from reputable sources that would support his claim that "things have steadily improved for blacks on the whole" and that "black" Americans should be content to sit back and "let the good times roll!"

The reality is that contrary to the conservative narrative that "black" Americans should recognize the "progress" they've made, the disparity between "blacks" and "whites" household wealth has steadily increased over the last 30 years and this wealth gap continues "regardless of households’ education, marital status, age, or income."

I'm a white guy married to a Puerto Rican. If she was black I would still have married her and everyone would be celebrating it just the same just like every other interracial marriage in this country. I have so many friends whose names I still have a hard time pronouncing because their families are so culturally diverse and this makes them profoundly wonderful people. They have such a rich heritage and America today supports and encourages this.
Don't listen to the so called 'elites' in the left especially during an election year. They love to make minorities feel so small then put their arms around them. The hypocrisy is nauseating. BLEXIT Foundation

Views of racial inequality in America

The problem isn't racism. It's that white people are more advanced educationally, professionally, occupationally, and financially than minorities. We've just been at it longer. It took us many generations to achieve this. Minorities are on the lower steps of the same 'wealth escalator' but they too are going up. Patience, prudence, and planning are key.

That information isn't readily available. Only income inequality figures are available. So the ball is in your court to prove me wrong.

No, racism is not the culprit.

This doesn't answer why a wealth gap exists. I don't know any two white college grads that earn the same money. For instance, it depends on what the degree is in. ie. social services versus engineering. Moreover, what you actually do with that degree.
Spending and saving are bigger factors in household wealth than earnings regardless of age.
What about cultural differences? One statistic that is more alarming to me and perhaps of greater impact on this wealth gap is the 65% of father absenteeism in black homes.

I researched this. Since Affirmative Action got millions of blacks into college many have consistently chosen, or have been directed to, course majors in social studies. The reasons are mostly academic; they are easier and provide a greater chance of obtaining a degree than the courses that require a stronger academic background. And the employment opportunities with government social services agencies are very attractive as well.

However, these jobs are near the bottom of the pay scale for college grads, once again because of the skill level involved in the jobs. This is hardly conducive to wealth building in a single generation. However it should provide the environment for the children of that generation to develop the 'rigorous' study habits needed to succeed in the more demanding, and higher paying, courses of study.

I'm sure Puerto Ricans are still eternally grateful for the aid that Trump and his Administrations provided them after they were devastated by by a hurricane!

Not to mention the fact that companies are now hiring people of color in the name of equality. Diversity quotas in employment are racist.
So, you're angry because whites can't have their preferential treatment as they have had for hundreds of years. Poor you.

You want to help end systemic racism? Eliminate the stupid race/ethnicity questions on surveys and paperwork.
That won't end systemic racism. If you want to end it, learn what it is and then ask God to help each with self reflection and when we can see just how each of us has some problems with race then maybe God's Spirit can change us so that we stop judging one race differently from our own.

Many blacks, especially men, are reluctant to see a white doctor when they're sick. Apply that bit of knowledge to all black problems that you believe stem from 'systemic racism' by whites.

I have a problem with black leaders and others who want to keep the black community enslaved to their past. You can't go forward while looking backward.
