  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I pointed out that the differences in the beliefs of different sects have been historically great enough to be a big part of the cause of endless wars. No one is denying that there are similarities between the various sects. Your argument hinges on people denying that Christians tend to believe in Jesus. No one has claimed that is what the differences between sects is.
I agree and didn't make that claim.

We are body, soul and spirit. The brain thinking and pondering is a hindrance, the flesh wanting to go its own way is also a hindrance. God knows everything perfectly but we do not and no one does. It is not a repeatable science like gravity, it is spiritual. Anyone who says they fully understand everything of God and everything in the scriptures is fooling themselves. But just because our brain or flesh limit us does not mean we should not strive to learn. Our spirits can connect to God and the Holy Spirit can guide us so long as we let him. Like when Jesus called to Peter to walk on the water.
Matthew 14
28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”

29 “Come,” he said.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

Peter's mind started to think outside of Jesus, his body felt the storm and he got scared and immediately his connection dropped and so he started to sink, even while he was right there with Jesus.

This is why Jesus warned us to watch out for false teachers because he knows that we are weak, that humans can be easily mislead.
Acts 20:28-3028
29 I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. 30 Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them.

This is why we have the Bible so that we can spot incorrect teaching.

Yeah, that didn't actually answer the question. You said that we have the Bible so we can spot incorrect teaching, but that doesn't stop different sects of Christianity from having different ideas, does it?

Go tell the Flat Earth Society that and see how they react.

The fact that they think they are right does not mean squat. One can't ever know they are right unless they have evidence.

And if we go all the way back to my example, then the evidence (which shops I went to) is contradictory. When we are faced with contradictory evidence, it's good evidence that what we are looking at is wrong.

It has nothing to do with anything that I have said regarding THE FOUNDATION...
Sorry...

I can´t even take what I have said and apply it to your scenario.

There is ONE foundation among the many outward structures of the ¨institution/(shop- from your example)¨ called the church...every outward church should have as its foundation, the truth of CHRIST and the MESSAGE of THE CROSS...

That´s it...

If one said, Kylie went to church today...and then someone else said she went elsewhere, it is clear that either kylie went to church and then afterwards to other various shops...but there is no confusion that a church is very much different from the various other shops that were visited...

Sorry...

I am at a loss as to how you are unable to grasp the concept I am trying to communicate.

The two people have the same foundation. That foundation is that they both say I went to the shops.

How you are unable to comprehend that concept is quite beyond me.

The fact that they think they are right does not mean squat. One can't ever know they are right unless they have evidence.
The evidence is the key to this issue. If the evidence you present to them is not evidence, that they accept as valid evidence. Then they are entitled to believe what they believe.

They have counter arguments for every shred of evidence you can offer. So in the end they think your the one that is wrong.

I already answered the main reason why, because people get lead astray by either the mind or the flesh.

And others don't rely on the Bible because they would rather listen to false teaching.
2 Timothy 4:3
For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear.

Are you talking about actual cults and sects which have an appearance of Christianity but are not, or do you mean denominations? They are two completely different things.
All Christian churches believe in Christ as God who died and rose again.

Yeah, they do have a few different interpretations and/or points of emphasis, but it's usually for the same reasons that different people have different understandings about a wide assortment of things in life, even with things like Logic and Truth, and not just about the Bible.

You can´t use your example for the church, Kylie...in fact, your example only proves my point.

If someone said Kylie went to Church....that is all that one would need to know and they would, assume only this....that Kylie believes in JESUS...they wouldn´t even have any idea of how Kylie practices her worship of GOD...they only know that Kylie has gone to Church, therefore she must believe in JESUS....

That, again is THE FOUNDATION and all that is needed.

No one would say but, but, but...look at all the manmade doctrines, I can´t possibly KNOW what I need in order to be saved.

And again, I would say there is only ONE FOUNDATION...if one has their feet on THAT FOUNDATION, every wind of doctrine after that FOUNDATION is just that....passing, temporal, it never stays put, and it will in fact, effect your stance if you are not first and foremost planted firmly on THAT FOUNDATION in order to know what is ETERNAL and lasting...and what isn´t..

Yet, you said you have no evidence that your foundation is true. You just believe it is. Give us a reason to believe the foundation is true.

Funnily enough, when it comes to things that we KNOW are true, such differences in opinion don't seem to pop up.

No one has differences of opinion about whether a solar panel can convert sunlight to electricity, for example.

I'm not talking about what people believe, I'm talking about what actually happened 2000 odd years ago. Your special pleading doesn't change that.

We were talking about THE TRUTH and how you argued that men can´t know who who is telling the TRUTH about GOD because each denomination seems to have different rules and doctrines and traditions and rituals and outward expressions on who and how they worship...and that is when I said there is only ONE FOUNDATION

Please go back to the original post and follow it forward...

And yes, you were talking about how can people know what to believe because of these many denominational differences...and that is why I said there is only ONE FOUNDATION...

And the people who say Kylie went to the shops today also have only ONE FOUNDATION.

I don't see how you can miss this concept.
