The problem with publicly labeling yourself as Christians that your acts become a witness. I don’t think we want Christians to be considered jerks. Sure, Jesus cares more about protecting others than our own freedom.

my experience in NJ is very different. Everyone in stores wears masks.

I do think that much of the flattening the curve stuff is behind us now, especially with the riots. I'm in NY and we have two weeks more of masks.
Really? I don’t think we’re going to go back to exactly what was before. Masks are something I’d expect to survive.

Masks really aren't good for you. They place pressure on the diaphragm in each direction, they retain air that we then re-breathe, and they harbor dust and germs. People are harming their immune systems by wearing masks for long periods, and it also has a psychological effect. Just today outside Shoprite a woman felt woozy because of the mask and stuffiness inside the store.

There is, or should be, a trade off on the issue. If you're in tight quarters with others, then a mask is a good idea. But generally its use should be minimized. Once the governors drop their regs, I think mask use plummets.

Grocery stores are a place where it makes sense. Lots of people You’re there for a fairly short period. I don’t wear a mask when I’m in my office working on my computer.

3/4ths or the people in that store were ignoring the rules and no one from the store did anything about it? If I were you I would shop elsewhere. Would Jesus wear a mask? Probably not. He would not need to. We however, cannot do what Jesus can do and should do what He commanded not what he would do. If wearing a mask is good for our neighbors well being, whether it is for their health or only for their peace of mind then there is no reason to not wear one.
If they were breaking the rules or not depends on the state/business If the state nor the business has asked people to wear masks ( not suggested but actually asked with legal authority behind it and the businesss does not care either they are not breaking a single rule.

I was just at the grocery store. Probably 3/4s of the people I saw were not nearing masks. Most of those were making no effort to maintain six feet distance from others.

One man who was not wearing a mask got very close to me; I had to ask him to keep his distance. When he instead got even closer I had to point my cane towards him to keep him away. I couldn’t help but notice that he was wearing a shirt from a local fundamentalist church (I will not disclose the name of the church or the denomination).

Now, I know that wearing a church’s shirt doesn’t make one a Christian—not up to me to make that call—but assuming this guy was why wasn’t he obeying rules (signs at the store entrance say that masks are required). Why was he putting others at risk? Wearing a mask wouldn’t protect him, but it would prevent him from passing the virus on to others if he has it.

Is this what Jesus would want his followers to do? What would Jesus do?
Jesus would lay on hands and heal people. The disciples would stay away from the lepers. So, unless you have been given the power to heal people 100% of the time, it would be wise to be cautious.

I think the OP is from WVa. I’m from NJ. There can reasonably different reactions in different states, and in NY in different parts of the state.
They are still required in WV.

On the rare occasions when I go into work (I’m officially working from home but occasionally I do need to pick something up) I wear one in the hallways but take it off when I get to my office. If I would hear someone come in I would immediately put it back on.

Personally I do not think Jesus Christ of Nazareth has anything to do with the wearing of masks however He does have everything to do about love. So love one another with or without a mask. Be blessed and sty healthy!

I understand. But your report suggests that people aren’t as serious as here. Or maybe there are just more Christians, and it’s really true that Christians care more abou their freedoms than others.

but unless Rome speficiclly asked you to wear a mask not suggested out but actually made it and rule nor did that particular business asks for people to wear a mask ( or not be served) they are breaking no rule.

No, they definitely aren’t as serious about masks here. According to Prw 76% of West Virginians identify as being Christian.

As I said earlier, they are still required here by governor’s order.

I sure hope that's not the main explanation of the difference.

In that case yes they should wear them ( although I personally disagree with that and am glad I live in a state where that is not the case. Even though the governor HAS asked us to wear face coverings he has not mandated it.
