I try to read at least 1 chapter everyday. I pray a lot in my head, not so much as out loud. I have converted from Atheism to Christianity in February. I hope He knows me, because I know who He is.

I may have missed it but who is He to you? Can you explain?

I don't go to church. They don't teach the true Gospel on Hell. They itch the tickling ears.

Or so I've heard.

I like talking to you guys. You have your heads on straight so when I want questions answered, I go to Christ first, and then you guys. Thank you for listening to me. I'm still a baby Christian, I'm still drinking milk.

In same ways I don't blame you for your attitude. Many churches today are more social then gospel. For someone who does not know it is hard to find what you really need. That said church can be and is a necessary function for the believer. We can learn there, we can meet people who will come along side us and mentor us. We can find a brother or sister who has been serving Christ for decades who can help us set aside all the fluff and unnecessary things in our lives, including the unnecessary things in the church, and help us grow. It becomes obvious fairly soon who those people are. They are helping and loving and not always trying to get you into a "ministry". I put that into quotes because many leaders and I disagree on what is ministry. But I won't get into that on this post any more than I have.

In a church, unfortunately but it has been this way since the beginning if you read the New Testament close enough, we learn to deal with conflict which is not bad as telling others about Christ as we witness can be confrontational and we need to learn to stand for Christ, not run from those who reject Him, well unless they are starting to produce weapons, then maybe run. John Wesley, the founder of the Methodists was beaten on more than one occasion for witnessing and for being in opposition to the Church of England.

I would never condemn or think ill of anyone who does not attend a local church but I do think it makes it harder and it is much more difficult to have real online relationships that get to the heart of ourselves. Not just more difficult but impossible. I have many friends in many churches across the nation and around the world. People I have known since I was a mere high school boy who are still serving Christ, many are ministers either as pastors, or teachers, youth leaders, etc. To a person they can recall the effect others have had in their lives along the way who pointed them closer to Christ. Sometimes a small thing like a saying that was passed to them by an older brother. Something like, this is a real example, talking of the Bible, This book will keep you from sin and sin will keep you from this Book. We never know what will impact a person.

I really could not recommend a church, there are many that do practice what we see in the New Testament and more that do not I am afraid. That could be an unfair statement. I would encourage to seek one out and then NOT get discouraged when you get a glimpse of some of the mess. Building people into disciples can be messy, we are messy, and we screw up at times, sometimes very badly.

God bless you, continue to read, continue to question and take any and all advice and comments, especially mine, with a certain degree of critical thinking and contemplation. In the word of my father, You know one time I thought I was wrong, but I was mistaken. LOL, a bit of humor there.

He is my role model, my mentor. The best teacher I've had so far. A friend to talk to whenever. My best friend.

Is He the ruler of your life, is your life totally committed to Him and His purpose, is He your savior from sin and the punishment associated with it? That is the real deal. This is what it truly means to know Him. Now I will say that the commitment increases over time but even in the beginning He becomes the master or the Lord of our life when He becomes our savior. The rest of our life or a good part of it, maybe different periods of time for some, is spent dying to ones self, our will, our self determination, and Christ becoming in us. That is what it means to be a Christian at the very root of it all. A savior without Him being Lord in our life is not really knowing Him.

Is this true? Are they for sure the trumpets?
That is what they sound like. (Nobody knows for sure what causes them.)
Full disclosure: the Bible doesn't prophesy this "tune-up," though. ;)

Right.

Yes but is not a license to start date setting either.

I didn't start date setting, indeed no-one I've seen here is date setting. Just putting more perspective on your quote which I believe was taken out of context. God Bless :)

Boxman,
You recently became a Christian? WOOOO HOOOOO! All the angels of God REJOICE over one who repents and turns to Him. Its a celebration!

You have NOTHING to fear. It will be the BEST DAY you could ever imagine. Jesus is your Savior. God didnt lie when he said, WHOSOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM, SHOULD NOT PERISH BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE.
Jesus defeated death on your behalf. God isnt watching every move you make ready to condemn you. HE LOVES YOU LIKE A FATHER WOULD HIS OWN SON.

You have ETERNAL LIFE, death and hell doesnt get you in the end. Praise His Holy Name!

Look at this scripture in 1 John 4.18....
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
You will no longer fear when you understand how incredibly much he loves you. His perfect love casts out fear, because you now understand he loves you and isnt condemning you. The condemnation and penalty for your sin was laid on Jesus at the cross. He took your condemnation to make your sins white as snow. Washed away by the blood of Jesus. He gave you a clean white robe wrapping you in HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS.
Remember the prodigal son who returned home, and how HAPPY his Father was he came back. Thats you!

Why are you being so snarky? I clarified in my last post. Did you read the thread?? The title of the thread?

I'm putting a smiley face and a 'God Bless' in every post so you know I'm not being snarky. The scripture you posted is often taken out of context

Mark 13:26-37

When Jesus said 'But about that day or the hour no-one knows' he had already said: Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that it is near, right at the door (Mark 13:29)

So the answer to the OP is have we seen the things given in Mark 13 happening? If so the return of the Lord is near. If not then it's not. Where the remark on 'date setting' came from I have no idea. I haven't seen anyone date setting here. God Bless :)

But we were asked by the op to give a time. If Jesus cannot do it, neither can we.

Right.

Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door (Matthew 24:33)

A reference to the destruction of the Temple, not the consummation of history. Jesus said in the immediately following verse, "Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place."

Jesus describes the signs that would precede the destruction of the Temple. However, when He begins speaking about His return and the end of the age (verse 36 and on) He is very clear that there will be no signs.

""But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one left. Therefor, stay away, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of th enight the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect." - Matthew 24:36-44

So from the above we learn:

1) Nobody knows the day or the hour except the Father.
2) It will happen without any warning.
3) We can't know when it will happen.
4) We don't know when the Lord will come.
