I believe Minecraft is a great game for Christians BUT>>> the flaming hoops and clicks necessary to do that through the Microsoft store or even the official Minecraft site is just like slapping me in the face and laughing because they can. I've spent so much time trying to verify my credit account and even receive an "automated" message from my bank about security... It's UNBELIEVABLE.

The way I see it is if a person isn't internet savvy at all you might as well see if there is Reddit community about "I am an internet RETARD!"

I've been pretty disappointed with the Steam store for the last year+. I agree that the interface is decent, but the selection of games has been getting progressively less interesting. It seems that Epic (and perhaps other competitors) have locked up exclusivity deals on some of the more interesting titles and I only ever wind up finding schlock whenever I go Steam shopping.

*not that I play anything anyways. I just buy stuff and then go back to getting wrecked at pubg.

I'm a Steam user. I agree that the Steam interface is very good. I've downloaded around 30 games without a glitch. Since joining Steam I've also upgraded twice to PCs with better GPUs. I've had no trouble downloading my existing games to the new PCs.

My only grouse is the way Steam analyses my preferences when suggesting new games. In spite of never, ever having bought shoot-'em-up type games Steam insists on offering me the latest in mindless militaristic rubbish.

I've come not pay much attention to their recommendations but more intrigued as to why they think I'd actually like them. The way I see it is their algorithm is more like shaking a barrel full of game titles and seeing what ends on top.

I've had reasonable success finding games by using a simple Google search asking for games similar to an existing game.

If the search turns up something which looks reasonable, I can look at reviews and/or search for it in Steam to see cut scenes, screenshots, reviews etc.

I'm 62 years old. When it comes to Steam it's like going through a store and avoiding the section where they display inappropriate contentographic magazines. But that's not what I'm upset about.

I simply want to buy a decent game and have access to FREE mods. Despite the downsides to Steam, it does an extremely good job at accessing additional free content. So far with Minecraft and Microsoft who sells it, it's like going into Dante's Inferno.

I do agree Steam is the best out there in terms of interface, and ease of access regarding the mods/Steam Workshop. It'd be tough to find anything out there comparable in my opinion.

Here is a video that may help you buy, and download it. Some folks in the comments were having trouble, but maybe it's worth a shot?

Steam does make things pretty convenient, but the Java-edition of Minecraft has its perks when it comes to modding. There's a lot of MC mods out there that haven't been updated past a certain version, so its nice to be able to easily switch between different versions of the game and to be able switch out your mods easily too. With MC, you can install multiple Forge versions, cut n' paste groups of mods in/out of your "mods" folder, and then choose the proper Forge version in the MC launcher and boom. Quick and easy switching between mods/modpacks and versions.

The Steam Workshop, on the other hand, doesn't seem geared towards easily switching between different versions of the game or different modpacks... or even accessing older versions of the mods to play on an older version of the game. It's more or less expected that, in order to keep their mod playable, modders have keep their mods up-to-date (depending on the updates of course. Some game updates don't break mods, others do). Whereas with Minecraft, it's a lot easier to access older versions of mods and older versions of the game itself. The Steam Workshop may be more convenient than MC modding, but it's a little less flexible IMO.

Steam's workshop feature is great, I must admit, although @WayfaringCoyote made some good counter-points. In the way I've used Steam, I've been okay with the system. I can also appreciate how Steam is its own multiplayer service in a way. Plenty of functionality and convenience.

I just don't like having to run Steam itself when I want to play a game, and for whatever reason I find the interface and all its pop-ups weird. I guess I use Steam just rarely enough that I haven't really gotten used to it.

GOG works best for me. I buy the game, I can install it DRM-free and I don't have to launch GOG clients in order to run a game (although if I choose, I can use GOG galaxy). I must manually download+install whatever mods I want to use, so there is a bit more labor on my part, but then again I'm not bothered by it. Of course GOG has far less games than Steam, and so many new games are not on GOG at all, but I've learned to live with it.

I've gotten used to Steam so it isn't an issue for me, except when I just want to boot up a utility app like Aseprite (which I installed via Steam) from the shortcut on my Desktop. It boots up Steam first, and then the app. Slightly annoying, but otherwise manageable.

There's definitely perks to having DRM-free games (being able to own a game completely is always nice), though the convenience and features of the Steam client are appealing in their own ways. It's a trade-off, I suppose.

One thing that really, really, really annoys me is when a single, specific game that I want is only available on some highly-specific client (like Origin, which mostly has EA games), which forces me to download that highly specific client and make an account for it just to download and use a single game. Like I already have Steam and it does everything I want it to, so there's zero-incentive for me to use the other client aside from the single, solitary game I downloaded it for. It's the equivalent of useless baggage, unless another game that appeals to me happens to release exclusively for that client.
