It does respect political borders when governments do. That's the whole point of the travel ban.

What? There's no travel ban between the UK and Europe, the fantasy in your head notwithstanding. You understand all I have to do as a European to get into the US is fly via Heathrow, right? Independent of the fact the UK has the same rate of infection as Europe.

Funny how the criticism works: supposedly blameworthy because of doing too much; supposedly blameworthy for not doing enough.

Observers may reasonably anticipate that whatever certain ppl may do, it's their fault for doing too much or not enough in the view of determined critics.

Trump could have...

- Addressed the shortage of tests
- Addressed the fact the CDC initially rejected third party labs developing their own tests
- Created a national set of guidelines for closures of schools, events, and other gatherings
- Provided any sort of recent projections on the infection rate
- Provided any sort of timeline on vaccines/treatments
- Provided any sort of timeline on how long daily changes will last (you know... LEADING?!)

But instead... Trump bans travel from Europe AFTER there are thousands of CDC tested cases (and likely tens of thousands of actual cases) within the country. The barn door is open, the horses are everywhere, but captain chaos assures us that at least one of the doors will be shut for a couple of days... which you take to be what, leadership?

And don't forget, this was the "strongest" measure ever taken by any country. Never mind that the government of china practically shut down their economy for 100 million people. Never mind that Italy just locked down all travel in and within their country.

Dear leader assures us that banning flights is most that has ever been done! HE'S SO STRONG!

You are operating from a false premise. You are pretending as if travel bans are the best way to stop the spread of disease as opposed to widespread testing, containment of infected, and having a staff that was out in front of this beforehand. The main reason why the US has been so behind is that it disband and/or underfunded the very people that would make the US response to this. The apologism for mediocrity is a sad state of affairs and the current president's followers.

Is this yet another anti-President Trump pretext?

(I'm not even in the US...)
As it should be in the politics forum. Trump has been a bumbling disaster from day one on this, saying and tweeting the most idiotic things.

The UK has a greater number of infected people than a half dozen European countries. In health terms, in epidemiological terms, it makes absolutely no sense.

In other words, exactly what you’d expect from Trump....

I guess he no longer thinks this is a hoax invented by the Democrats. /s

He has done a stunningly awful job. He should have listened months ago to WHO. He shouldn't have fired the pandemic team 2 yrs ago & failed to replace them.

If I lived in America again I'd want to live on a street named after President Obama bc I would know for sure Trump would never drive down it.

Just kidding, I wouldn't be that immature, but I was being for real about how I don't think he would ever drive down it.

It's foolish that he fired the pandemic team & then never replaced them, bc......Obama.

Just like every other government in the world.

I hope he also bans US citizens from travelling back to the US. I have a friend from the USA who'd rather stay in germany.

When he initiated the travel ban against China, it was called "racist" and "xenophobic". Now they accuse him of underreacting. In no European country, not even Italy, has the epidemic reached the point that it has in China, so Trump is ahead of the game here.

The UK is not party to the Schengen Agreement.
As a EU citizen, you can still travel to the UK without any kind of border checks.

Ok so your post is perfect. I'll just add.

He could have also not told a huge public rally that it was a hoax by the Dems & that only "like 15 people" would be infected.

I guess I'll give him props for at least having the restraint to not put on a gas mask for a trolling stunt like Gaetz did. Gaetz is now in self-quarantine.

People have been flying from Milan into the UK and experiencing absolutely no checks or testing. The UK government response to the crisis is basically non-existent which is why we're about 1-2 weeks away from a national meltdown when our already over-strained NHS is faced with a massive surge in intake.

Not only that, I understand that South Korea is not included in Trump’s travel bans.

You know, the country with thousands of known infections...!!

At least the Wall, it’s really beautiful... will keep Mexicans from Central American from bringing the virus to the US.

The President has also banned importation of Tequila with worms in the bottle. Those worms are really nasty.

He didn't mentioned the problem of testing in the US. South Korea tests 10,000 a day. The US hasn't even tested 10,000 people yet. And both countries had their first cases about the same time.
It is a pathetic response from the US.
