Every Prosecutor On Roger Case Quits In Protest After DOJ Lightens Sentencing Recommendation
"A political infestation of the office." After Trump threw a hissy twit over the existing department sentencing guidelines for the felonies Stone committed, Barr stepped in and overruled the prosecutors, arguing for a much lighter sentence than guidelines indicated. The prosecutors followed the sentencing guidelines, but Trump moved to protect Stone.

Judges have discretion, however, and Trump may well have committed yet another crime for nothing.

And as suspected, Barr has intervened to obey Trump's orders to save Trump underlings from prison time.

Armed robbery and rape time averages 3-5 years.

Stone is facing 9 years for lying and a witness tampering charge.

Do you think that's a little bit excessive?

Trump says it's not fair, I agree.

"Roger Stone is far more than the persona he projects in the media. As those who know him well attest, he is a man devoted to his friends and family, but also someone who has repeatedly extended himself well beyond the normal range to assist virtual strangers," his attorneys wrote.

But prosecutors also cited Stone's behavior after he was indicted in January 2019.

He posted an Instagram image of U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson, the judge presiding over his case, with what appeared to be crosshairs of a gun next to her head.

Stone repeatedly violated a gag order preventing him from speaking publicly about the case. Jackson later banned him from using social media.

"Stone's conduct over the past two years shows the low regard in which he holds the House Intelligence Committee's investigation and this very criminal case," prosecutors wrote. "That conduct suggests that a period of incarceration is warranted to achieve adequate deterrence."
Roger Stone sentencing: Feds want 7 to 9 years for Trump ally

Stone repeatedly violated gag orders and posted a threatening image of the judge in his case. That needs to be taken into consideration as it would for any other criminal who refused to abide by the conditions of his bail.

It appears that Trump is desperate enough to corrupt the Justice Department to save him, but he has no power over the judge.

Stone was found guilty of seven charges: one count of obstruction of an official proceeding, five counts of false statements and one count of witness tampering. The maximum penalty for all counts totals 50 years in prison, though first-time offenders generally receive significantly lower sentences.

I think one year per felony would be a reasonable sentence. It's a lot lighter than a lot of other first-time criminals get.

Actually, he's facing a maximum of 9 years for seven felonies.

I think a year per felony is pretty light.

Trump says it's not fair,

He's probably thinking of what's waiting for him after he leaves the WH.

They're trying to do the same to Flynn, already ruined his life but that's not enough.

I remember Flynn pumping up the mob at the republican convention with cries of "lock her up!" Then he committed real crimes, and is now facing real consequences. Flynn ruined his life when he chose to hide his contacts with Russian agents from the FBI. Sometimes, justice happens.

The fact remains that one year per felony, is getting off pretty easy. Given that Stone indirectly threatened the judge in the case, and repeatedly violated the terms of his bail, he should be glad it's no more than that.

It's not fair and I think he will get or should get a reduced sentence. That's the way I see it whether Rep. or Dem.

I don't think the guidelines should be reduced for him, just because he committed the crimes for the president. The fact that he blatantly violated the conditions of his bail, and threatened the judge makes it clear he has no remorse. One year per felony is getting off easy.

Many Republican Senators up for re-election this year are in "purple" states and they voted against this President's impeachment based on the publicly stated premise that after the Mueller Investigation and Senate Trial, any rational politician would have learned his lesson and not tempt fate a 3rd time!

Trump, in his infinite wisdom, has repaid their misguided loyalty by initiating several unnecessary major political controversies - such defiance may be "red meat" for his base, but it only makes for the re-election of those vulnerable Republican senators that much more difficult!

Such reckless behavior that jeopardizes the Republican majority in the Senate is particularly problematic for a President intent on running for a 2nd term - given that it not only removes his safeguard against impeachment, but it also hastens the probability of Trump facing criminal prosecution as "SUBJECT 1" once he leaves office!
