Father Asks Elizabeth Warren If He’s Going To Get His Money Back After Paying For Daughter’s Education

In a video that’s stirred up some attention online, a self-described father of a college graduate asks Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Elizabeth Warren (MA), whose platform includes “a plan to cancel student loan debt,” if he can get his money back after “working a double shift” and dutifully saving so he could pay for his daughter’s college education. Her answer inspires an exasperated response from the man.

In a video highlighted over at Twitchy, the father approaches Warren to ask her about her student loan cancellation plan.

“My daughter’s getting out of school, I saved all my money, so she doesn’t have any student debt,” the man says. “Am I going to get my money back?”

“Of course not,” the Massachusetts senator responds.

His daughter could've taken the easy way out and just lied about being Native American. I hear that's a pretty useful trick for getting somewhere in the academic world.

What reward does a Godly man seek , and from whom does He seek it or hope for it ?
I think it is written a few places that Yahweh's faithful gladly accept the robbing or ransacking of their own personal possessions (they gave them up when they were immersed in or before or as they were immersed in Jesus' Name) (in ACTS), and even
Jesus goes so far as to say clearly : Give to those who ask of you, and don't expect anything back ... THEN
your reward will be from the Father in Heaven, as He Says.

It's hard to argue with his point. It's certainly not just for that guy. Not only does he get the bad end of that deal, but as a taxpayer he's the one footing the bill for student loan forgiveness. The vast majority of student loans are held as assets by the US Treasury. The taxpayer will be the one paying for this. And it's not the rich taxpayer that pays. The assets on the Treasury's balance sheet decrease while the liabilities remain (and grow). All taxpayers will pay as it devalues Treasury liabilities to some degree. The same set of taxpayers will have to fund a larger share of the liabilities of the Treasury. And for those people who don't pay taxes, but perhaps live off of government benefits, they too should be aware that their well being would be dependent on a shrinking asset base. So her plan benefits student debtors at the expense of taxpayers and those who hold treasury promises/liabilities as assets (bondholders, gov't benefit receivers, etc..). This isn't simply a rich vs poor debate.

And it's not only him, but countless others sacrificed in ways to ensure both their education and financial well being. Some people served in the military to pay for school. Some studied hard in high school to get a deserved scholarship. Some served as doctors for the Veterans Administration to pay off debt. Some worked and saved for themselves and/or someone else. Some worked through college to pay. Some borrowed out of necessity and worked hard to pay back as they agreed.

Her plan devalues prudence, industriousness, public service, personal responsibility, and personal sacrifice.

Would that not be from a loving giving heart?

Jesus says a lot that is not understood nor even sought today.
For someone who is selflessly generous, a "giving" eye full of light, their whole body is full of light and there is no darkness in it.
For anyone who is selfish/ stingy, their eye is greedy/ dark, and there is no light in their body - it is full of darkness.

Do you really, honestly think so ?
That a politician craving status, desiring votes, and good publicity,
is seriously concerned about his daughter,
and with justice and equity !? (not looks that way from their response)

If that moron believes in retroactive "fairness" then he should give his land and home back to the descendants of the Native Americans he stole it from. After that he can ask for his daughter's tuition money back after a future law is created (IF it is).

I think he made a valid point. Warren needs to be specific if his friend who makes more money and spent it on homes and cars allowing his daughter to go into debt will get her debt paid off.

The man being the father worked double shifts to be responsible and earn money to send his daughter to college.

I think he was pressing Warren for the details of her loan forgiveness. Will she reward those parents that did not sacrifice and save like he did?

Warren wants to help people get a quality education without being debt ridden for years. He thinking about himself and not about his daughter and her children.

Selfish request. What would Jesus say?
When people work, they usually want to be paid. what is selfish ?

When people pay for education, and IF their wealthy neighbor gets their child's education paid for by deception or some type of subterfuge, WHO is the sinful one, the selfish one ?

How is it selfish. If everyone’s debt will be forgiven is not the worker worthy his wages?

Warren’s policy is a wreck rewarding irresponsible families. She should have said only low income families will be covered.

I believe you missed his point entirely. He compared what he did aka work to send his daughter to college with the irresponsible parent who would leave debt the tax payer would have to flip the bill according to Warren’ shallow plan.
