  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So, 4 years of lame duck USA?
Are second terms always "lame duck"? I don't think so.

But if the senate doesn't vote on the impeachment charges before the election, it's possible for them to after. That would make Pence, supposing he is VP at the time, president and he would be eligible for a second term of his own.

A president from one party and a senate held by the other party would completely paralyze the USA in this age of complete obstructionism practiced by both parties.

This is my feeling .. hope I am wring but I think this is how it will all end – house will impeach President Trump, but there is no way 20 GOP senators will vote against President Trump. I will be surprise if you will find 5 GOP senators who will vote against President Trump. At the end , 2020 Election will decide the fate of president Trump.

Or when he is cornered Trump will make a final deal of immunity and simply resign. As time goes on I am becoming more and more convinced that this will happen.

Those who do not know History are doomed to repeat it. Nixon was not impeached for the Watergate break in, it was teh cover up that nailed him. Trump probably would very likely have not been impeached for his initial acts, at worst impeached but not convicted. But his cover ups are becoming so egregious that soon enough Republicans will vote against him.
I disagree.

Nixon's initial crime was the Watergate hotel break-in. It was done to get dirt on the Democrats.

Trump's initial crime was the withholding of military aid from a nominal ally (extortion) so he could dig up or manufacture dirt on a political opponent.

Trump's crime is way, way worse. He is turning the US into an autocracy designed to protect and serve the president. He is using the machinery of the state to keep himself in power and worse, he's convinced an entire party that it's totally normal.

Not likely. Donald has one thing Nixon never did -- a (relatively) friendly media outlet. The GOP won't turn on him until the people do, and the people won't turn on him until FoxNews does.

Clearly, Trump does not yet grasp the reality of an impeachment inquiry:

“I would love to send Ambassador Sondland, a really good man and great American, to testify,” he wrote on Twitter, “but unfortunately he would be testifying before a totally compromised kangaroo court, where Republican’s rights have been taken away.”
You'd think that there aren't any Republicans on the Intelligence Committee and that they weren't allowed to ask the witnesses questions. :tutu:

Nixon's initial crime was the Watergate hotel break-in. It was done to get dirt on the Democrats.

Actually, no. There is no real evidence that Nixon knew about the break in, just that it was apparently planned by various members of the Nixon's campaign. While many theorize Nixon had to have known about it, since there is no evidence it was not something Congress could charge Nixon with.

What caused Nixon to resign is when the White House tape was released, the conversation Nixon had where he directly talked of covering up the break in.

It does seem like Trump is saying, "It worked for Nixon...." ;)

Do they really think they'll be able to impeach Trump for blocking all impeachment attempts?

What will they do when he blocks this one, too? Double dog impeach him?
It only takes one count, sports fans.

No one who understands how the House works would think so. But then again, this is Donald talking so we're back to the question of whether he doesn't understand or just assumes that his followers aren't smart enough to catch on.

I've got no doubt in my mind Sean Hannity, fellow client of Donald's personal attorney sitting in the slammer Michael Cohen, would find himself a way to blame Hillary's emails if Donald shot somebody in the middle of 5th Avenue. Others on Fox News have finally found some spine to criticize Donald. He of course reacted to that with a temper tantrum. You are right that Fox News isn't ever going to turn on him entirely, at least not in the present. Donald is soiling himself with rage today on account of Fox daring to show a poll about folks supporting his impeachment.

If Donald shot Hannity on Fifth Avenue, he'd probably claim it was some sort of Soros-backed scam...

Others on Fox News have finally found some spine to criticize Donald. He of course reacted to that with a temper tantrum.

That should bring them back into the fold... Their loyalty is normally unquestioning, but every so often Donald does something so egregious that even the Spin Doctors get dizzy.

They'll wise up to avoid his wrath.
