Poverty and prosperity is a choice. Life and death is a choice, sickness and health is a choice, as is blessing and curse. There is a right and a wrong choice to make and God encourages us to make the right choice. No one said that was going to be easy. In fact Jesus tells us that this is going to be difficult. "But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it." (Matthew 7:14)

They do not steal. They actually support people giving because they WANT to and not because of taxes. There is a difference in helping the poor and making them dependent on you. As my late father would say we will ALWAYS have the poor among us, but that does not make it OK for it to be the same poor. In other words, until the towards the end he would help people ( until his own health made it impossible for him to earn money, but that did not mean that he did not expect people to work to improve the situation that led to them asking for help.
