God-given Talents/Gifts

But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way.

(1 Corinthians 12:31)​

Most everyone paying attention know who owns what in V-31. Dividing it into two sections, A & B, section A is now the subject of the purported end of our involvement of the recorded “gifts” according to many non-Pentecostals. There may be a few gifts or several gifts still available according to them which still does nothing to admonish the reader concerning quenching the Spirit and scriptural rebellion over this reduction of A.

Have you ever considered, of all whom performed some of God’s wonders recorded in OT/NT scripture, what that favored person had to present to God just prior to performing the first of these feats? We remember James telling us of Elijah’s nature that what he possessed was the same as ours. I find that tipping approval’s pendulum heavily in our favor and with very little change. Look at V-31-A again and tell me this doesn’t affect what Paul said elsewhere concerning this,

For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.

(Romans 12:3)​

Again, another temptation for the non-Pentecostal to resist expectation from God. But, if you will notice and combine the two which the Spirit inspired, it would read,

“Desire” “in accordance with the faith God has distributed”​

For our aggressive side, and then advising cautiousness with,

“Think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with””a more excellent way”​

No, focusing on the next chapter (love) doesn’t mean NO ONE will receive the best gifts, but it also certainly doesn’t ensure EVERYONE will receive the best gifts either! Does the casual Christian look this intently into God’s will over this matter? He should, this isn’t especially deep material. Yet, with the rampant use of moral and academic relativism as it is, the common thought being mishandled today poured upon the shallow seed of some Churched and un-churched is one of, ‘we decide if evil or good’. All the while not retaining within themselves God’s will which misses the severity of the word.

Often seen surfacing under the cover of ‘good intentions’, which could run counter to God’s nature and expectations for us. Such intentions wish to confer protection by saying “good luck”, or, may cross the fingers or fasten oneself to a charm for protection upon its possessor by extraordinary properties. Beggarly superstitions such as these remain unbiblical for Christian conduct and are not talents from God. True, the miraculous the possessor wishes for could very well be performed by God but quite unlikely since “hidden darkness”, incantation and divination are condemned.

Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the
Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.

In the parable of Matthew 25:15 we have handed down to us a contested treatment from the translators that cannot always accept the word as simple as when the Lord delivered it; “talents”, the abilities of how it is handled mentally as well as physically. The one thing I gather from it is this, something I receive from the Lord is to make sure it is used to move forward and receive the more promised! There is great scarcity advising us to conceal things that are evident in our lives and confirmed in several ways.

So, let’s borrow from a popular venue that has expanded across the globe and now comes under different nations such as Britons Got Talent or Americas Got Talent which has transplanted and secured the careers of several gifted individuals. Capacities that exceed normally being expressed in the world. I have only recently inspected some of these enough to know the judges many times express the same academic relativism when approached by things such as levitation or magician’s deception.

Because these things are in the world is not my concern. What is my concern is where the name of the Lord Jesus Christ is being displayed? Is it being displayed as ‘good’ when it is being associated with fruits that aren’t quite good enough?

To God’s glory and to reclaim firmly that biblical use of “talent”, how would you answer the presiding panel-judge who finally ask the target question?

“What’s the dream?”​

One that may well convince the hearer.

What Christian could not wish to express the gospel being accompanied in the power of God just as they did in the beginning?

“, , that I may gain Christ, , that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, , ” and being the recipient of “, , some spiritual gift”, hope to express it at that time!.

(Philippians 3:8, 10 Romans 1:11)​

Knowingly, never having exhibited that gift/talent before, but would to God that I either succeed there or take my part in “the fellowship of His sufferings”, and “suffering the loss of all things”.

(Philippians 3:10,8)

If you must, call that my ‘dream’ or talent wish.
