100 lb. Hailstones

Revelation 16:21 tells how huge hailstones fell from heaven weighing a talent which is about 100 pounds. Josephus describes 100 lb. white stones coming from Roman catapults down on the Jews in Jerusalem (Jewish Wars, Book 5.6.3).

https://www.kennethgentry.com/catalog/apocalypse.htm

The prophecy of the talent weight hailstones has found a similar fulfillment in the siege of Jerusalem, according to the preterist. Josephus states of the catapults of the Roman tenth legion: "the stones that were cast, were of the weight of a talent, and were carried two furlongs and further.... As for the Jews, they at first watched the coming of the stone, for it was a white color" (Wars 5:6:3). These stones not only had the weight required by John, but were the same color as hail.

Rev 16:21 And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.

First off people blame God in heaven not the Roman's for this happening. Second, hail is specifically ice that falls from the sky. It happens regularly all over the world. Hail is not made of stone or anything like that.

Too complicated explanation , simple one is God is stoning people to death with large rocks raining them upon earth like it would be rain.
It's punishment for blasphemy like in OT .
We talking literall rocks big boulders to crush people to death .

PERHAPS THE BOOK THAT MOST INFLUENCED THE CONVERSION OF CONSTANTINE AND THE ROMAN EMPIRE TO CHRISTIANITY

"The Holy Scriptures foretell that there will be unmistakable signs of the Coming of Christ.

Now there were among the Hebrews three outstanding offices of dignity, which made the nation famous, firstly the kingship, secondly that of prophet, and lastly the high priesthood.
The prophecies said that the abolition and complete destruction of all these three together would be the sign of the (b) presence of the Christ.
And that the proofs that the times had come, would lie in the ceasing of the Mosaic worship, the desolation of Jerusalem and its Temple, and the subjection of the whole Jewish race to its enemies.

The holy oracles foretold that all these changes, which had (c) not been made in the days of the prophets of old, would take place at the coming of the Christ, which I will presently shew to have been fulfilled as never before in accordance with the predictions."
BABerean2 said:
Exo_9:25 And the hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and beast; and the hail smote every herb of the field, and brake every tree of the field.

Did the Romans cast giant hail stones, or rocks, during 70 AD.

See if you can find somebody who said they looked like hailstones, to make your form of preterism work.
you did read the part about the hail being great, the weight of a talent?
How big would the hail have to be to break every tree?.
100 lbs.?
The biggest hint that most futurists [and perhaps some Preterists]seem to miss concerning Revelation being 70ad is the Roman denari in Reve 6:6 and that verse is concerning the great FAMINE that occurred during the Roman siege of 70ad Jerusalem..........I could practically harmonize Josephus's account of 70ad to Revelation [which I may do, time allowing]

John 11:48

"If-ever we may be be letting Him thus, all shall be believing in Him.
And shall be coming the Romans and they shall be taking away of Us and the Place and the Nation
[Reve 6:6/14:8]

Revelation 16:21 "..great HAIL fell on men as a talent weight.." Josephus

And the Roman catapults and battering rams help breach the wall and allowed to the Roman to build a wall of circumvallation around the City.......

Pulpit Commentary
Verse 21. - And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent; cometh down upon, the present tense, rendering the description more graphic. Commentators usually quote 'Diodorus Siculus' (19:45), who mentions. as something marvellous, hailstones of a mina in weight; the mina being one-sixtieth of a talent; and also the account of Josephus, who speaks of stones a talent in weight being thrown by machines at the siege of Jerusalem (see Wetstein, ad loc.). "The men," though not pointing to any particular group of men who have been definitely mentioned, nevertheless necessarily refers to the wicked, were are the object of this punishment. "Hail" is frequently mentioned as a judgment of God and is added here to heighten the general effect of the description (cf. Exodus 9; Joshua 10:11; Psalm 78:47; Psalm 105:32; Isaiah 28:2; Isaiah 30:30; Ezekiel 13:11; Ezekiel 38:22; Haggai 2:17; also Revelation 8:7; Revelation 11:19).
And men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great; is exceeding great (vide supra). As in ver. 9, men repent not. Like Pharaoh, their hearts are hardened. These words end the general description of the vial judgments, but the events alludes to under the seventh vial are elaborated and particularized in the chapters which follow; the whole concluding at the end of Revelation 19.

From another thread:
New Evidence that "The Temple Mount" is the remains of Roman Fort Antonia
JacksBratt said:
Another interesting tid bit... The Coliseum in Rome was built by Titus... well finished from what his father started.... Titus built the Coliseum with stones of the destroyed temple in Jerusalem. Titus destroyed the Temple after his father rushed back to Rome to become emperor.... after the death of Nero..
The Coliseum was a place of anti Christian Satanic torture... Satan usually takes things that are holy and uses them for evil.... The temple was Holy...
Interesting.
First I have heard of that.

Colosseum 'built with loot from sack of Jerusalem temple'

A recently deciphered inscription was made public yesterday as organisers prepared for an exhibition on the monument, opening next week. A feature of the show is a large, altar-like stone with a chiselled Latin inscription, which tells how a senator, Lampaudius, had the Colosseum restored in AD 443.

But holes still visible in the surface clearly corresponded to different lettering, this time in bronze, which had been previously fitted into the stone. After a long study, Prof Geza Alfoldy of Heidelberg University, working with Italian archaeologists, deciphered the puzzle. He concluding that the original inscription read: "Imp. T. Caes. Vespasianus Aug. Amphitheatrum Novum Ex Manubis Fieri Iussit."

The translation is: "The Emperor Caesar Vespasian Augustus had this new amphitheatre erected with the spoils of war. There is no doubt what war this was, the sack of Jerusalem," said Cinzia Conti, the director of surface restoration at the Colosseum, yesterday.

Ms Conti said the Emperor Titus inaugurated the Colosseum in AD 80 with 100 days of festivities, but his father, Vespasian, had first opened it in AD 79, shortly before he died, when it was still unfinished. The original bronze lettering on the stone altar would have been made for the original opening.

Rome's Colosseum may have been built from temple plunder

According to a new theory based on a previous discovery, this monument to pagan imperial glory may have been paid for by plundering the biblical Temple in Jerusalem. Louis H. Feldman, professor of classics and literature at New York’s Yeshiva University, proposes that surprising scenario in the current issue of Biblical Archaeology Review.

First, consider the dimensions of the project. The Colosseum was the Roman Empire’s most magnificent building and most impressive engineering feat. It stood 165 feet tall, encompassed an oval one-third of a mile in circumference, had some 80 entrances and seated 50,000 (or 87,000 if one believes one fourth-century claim).

Second, note the state of imperial finances under the Emperor Vespasian (A.D. 69-79), who started the building. (It was formally dedicated in A.D. 80 and completed under his successors Titus and Domitian.) Vespasian’s predecessor Nero had drained the treasury with his extravagances, a fire had devastated Rome in A.D. 64 and a ruinous civil war preceded Vespasian’s ascent.

According to the second-century historian Suetonius, Vespasian faced a deficit of 40 billion “sesterces,” which Feldman says is the modern equivalent of billions of dollars, the largest sum of money mentioned in any records from antiquity.

Hey Lamb, Preterism is like beer. Its OK, but you can have too much of it.
Hey CG...........Yes alcohol in excess can be harmful.

Preterism
is like premium beer, and like fine wine, it is to be drank slowly and savored....
However, Futurism is like cheap beer, and like cheap wine, it is drunk mainly by winos :p

Luke 5:37
"And no one is casting young/neon <3501> wine into Old[Old Covenant] skins, if yet no surely shall be ruined the young wine of the skins, and it shall be being poured-out and its skin shall be perishing.
38 but young wine into New[New Covenant]<2537> skins is to be cast and both are preserved together.
39 And no one drinking Old immediately is willing young, for he is saying, 'for the the Old[cheap] is kind/mellow'".

The yet being aged/palaioumenon <3822> (5746) and being obsolete/ghraskon <1095> (5723) nigh of disappearance

The Destruction of Jerusalem - George Peter Holford, 1805AD

The Temple now presented little more than a heap of ruins; and the Roman army as in triumph on the event, came and reared their ensigns against a fragment of the eastern gate, and, with sacrifices of thanksgiving, proclaimed the imperial majesty of Titus, with every possible demonstration of joy.

Thus terminated the glory and existence of this sacred and venerable Edifice, which from its stupendous size, its massy solidity, and astonishing strength, seemed formed to resist the most violent operations of human force, and to stand, like the pyramids, amid the shocks of successive ages, until the final dissolution of the globe. [12]

For five days after the destruction of the Temple, the priests who had escaped, sat, pining with hunger, on the top of one of its broken walls; at length, they came down, and humbly asked the pardon of Titus, which, however, he refused to grant them, saying, that, "as the Temple, for the sake of which he would have spared them, was destroyed, it was but fit that its priests should parish also:" -whereupon he commanded that they should be put to death.

Revelation 9: Tormented 5 MONTHS and death fleeing 70ad

Rev 9:5
And they were not given authority to kill them, but to torment them for five months. Their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it strikes a man.

5 Months.......also the amount of time the flood covered the earth in Genesis:

Proof that Matthew 24 was fully fulfilled in 70 AD!

The day on which Titus encompassed Jerusalem, was the feast of the Passover. At this season multitudes came up from all the surrounding country, and from distant parts, to keep the festival and the city was at this time crowded with Jewish strangers...........

..............This memorable siege terminated on the eighth day of the ninth month, A.D. 70 : its duration was nearly five months, the Romans having invested the city on the fourteenth day of the fourth month, preceeding.

100 lb. Hailstones

Revelation 16:21 tells how huge hailstones fell from heaven weighing a talent which is about 100 pounds. Josephus describes 100 lb. white stones coming from Roman catapults down on the Jews in Jerusalem (Jewish Wars, Book 5.6.3).

The prophecy of the talent weight hailstones has found a similar fulfillment in the siege of Jerusalem, according to the preterist. Interesting. But I don't see the connection between hail from God, and catapults from Roman soldiers.

Interesting. But I don't see the connection between hail from God, and catapults from Roman soldiers.

I can see it now: fires burning as the Roman army heats lead to the melting point in a pot on a catapult.

Beside it is another catapult with a huge ice ball. preserved in sawdust and kept from the last winter. Sadly, as soon as the ice is removed from the sawdust, it begins to melt.

It doesn't make sense: the melted lead is to start fires, but the ice ball would put out the fire.

I made the poll where one can change their vote later on.
Discuss...........

Revelation 16:21 And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.

IMO, some of you need to try and pay a little closer attention to the text, thus stop with all these wild theories about these events taking place in 70 AD.

What does the text plainly say? Does it not say?---and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail. The text does not say they blasphemed the Romans because of the plague of the hail. Why would they be blaspheming God then? If the Romans were hurling stones at them instead, the natural reaction of most people would be thus---God please help us!!! But instead, they blasphemed God. Maybe because it was God behind this great hail, and not the Romans instead.

BTW, Preterism such as this is so easy to debunk, such as I did here, so why not just give the idea up altogether? What is your goal? To fully agree with all these authors of books and articles you have been reading, regardless? Or to fully agree with what the Bible is actually saying?

What does lead and ice have to do with time?
Lead.......dross............furnace.....no ice....refined in the Gehenna of Jerusalem 70Ad..
=====================
Isa 31:9 He shall cross over to his stronghold for fear, And his princes shall be afraid of the banner,” Says the LORD,
Whose fire is in Zion And whose furnace is in Jerusalem.

Eze 22:
18 “Son of man, the house of Israel has become dross to Me; they are all bronze, tin, iron, and lead, in the midst of a furnace; they have become dross from silver.
20 ‘As men gather silver, bronze, iron, lead, and tin into the midst of a furnace, to blow fire on it, to melt it; so I will gather you in My anger and in My fury, and I will leave you there and melt you.

Revelation 15:1 And I sign another sign in the heaven, great and marvelous. Seven Messengers having seven stripes/blows, the last, that in them is finished the fury<2372> of the GOD..............

Revelation 16:
8 Then the fourth Messenger poured out his bowl on the sun, and power was given to him to scorch men with fire.
9 And men were scorched with great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God who has power over these plagues; and they did not repent and give Him glory.

Proof that Matthew 24 was fully fulfilled in 70 AD!

Rapture refuted

The day on which Titus encompassed Jerusalem, was the feast of the Passover

Meanwhile the Temple continued burning, until at length, vast as was its size, the flames completely enveloped the, whole building ; which, from the extent of the conflagration, impressed the distant spectator with an idea that the whole city was now on fire. The tumult and disorder which ensued upon this event, it is impossible (says Josephus) for language to describe. The Roman legions made the most horrid outcries ; the rebels, finding themselves exposed to the fury of both fire and sword, screamed dreadfully ; while the unhappy people who were pent up between the enemy and the flames, deplored their situation in the most pitiable complaints.

Those on the hill and those in the city seemed mutually to return the groans of each other. Such as were expiring through famine, were revived by this hideous scene, and seemed to acquire new spirits to deplore their misfortunes.

The lamentations from the city wore re-echoed from the adjacent mountains, and places beyond Jordan. The flames which enveloped the Temple were so violent and impetuous, that the lofty hill. on which it stood appeared, even front its deep foundations, as one large body of fire.
