• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Can OCD cause intrusive feelings/emotions? Like can it make you feel like you want things or like things your normally wouldn't? Because I feel that I'm starting to want all of these different horrible things. For example, I'll have random feelings that I want to oppose God, be God, leave God, become the antichrist, etc. The thoughts themselves aren't as worrying as the feeling that I actually want the thoughts or want to do whatever the thoughts depict or whatever. Are these emotions/feelings/urges from OCD, or is it a sign that something different/real is wrong with me?

So then how do I know if I truly want something versus if OCD is making me want something or making me think I want something?
You should know yourself well enough. If you have strong faith in Christianity you would probably not really want to disobey God. In the end you know when the anxiety isn't there.

If it is ocd that you have, it is good to know that in ocd the anxiety comes before the obsessive thought. So the thought is not really what started the anxiety, but the anxiety gave you the thought. That is why it is usually futile to fight against the thoughts. Try instead to relieve the anxiety.

If you have a thought and you notice three days later it doesn't bother you one bit - maybe you have even forgotten all about it, then it definitely was an obsessive thought and if you get similar ones in the future you can probably guess they are also not 'real'.

You should seek medication and counselling if it is a problem for you.
