So a black female Georgia legislator wants a man arrested for saying something "racist" to her...

Georgia state Rep. Erica Thomas wants man arrested over alleged racist confrontation

Georgia state Rep. Erica Thomas said she wants police to charge the man who she claims told her to "go back to where you came from."

Apparently, she was in the 10 items or less express checkout lane with more items than the lane allows. A "white" man approached her, and they had some words regarding her using the express lane...

The thing is....she's not really sure what was said, she's just sure it was racist...

Thomas appeared initially to backtrack the claim on Saturday, saying in an interview: "I don't know if he said 'go back,' or those types of words ... I don't know if he said 'go back to your country' or 'go back to where you came from,' but he was making those types of references is what I remember."

"So you don't remember exactly what he said?" a reporter asked Thomas.

"No, no, definitely not. But I know it was 'go back' because I know I told him to 'go back,'" the lawmaker responded.

I guess she has since doubled down on her original claims of racism. Normally, this would probably go the same direction as many other cases of "viral racism"....except that the man accused of racism is getting his side of the story out in the media as well...

"Ms. Thomas has taken an innocuous situation that began on my part to be about being inconsiderate and turned into a national case about race over night," Sparkes said in a statement Monday. "Ms. Thomas accuses me of telling her to go back to wherever. Those words were never spoken. She backtracked slightly and now is changing her story. I am in the process of exploring with attorneys a defamation lawsuit against her."

Not only is he claiming that he never said "go back to wherever"...he's claiming he's not even white, he's Cuban. He's also anti-Trump, anti-racism, votes Democrat....and apparently thinks these things will influence people's opinions of the incident. Here's his side of the story....

What do you think? Obviously the confrontation happened....but do you think he said something racist? Do you think she's playing the victim for political points or national attention? Do you find it amusing that he thought he could clear his name by telling people he's not white and he's a Democrat who posts anti-racist stuff on Facebook?

Do you think we give too much attention, as.a society, to every little claim of racism?

I think people are using the racism card to do whatever they like, and forgo any semblance of manners.

Like this lady in the express check our with too many items.. how dare anyone correct her, or demand the same rules that apply to the rest of us apply to her..

I used to love watching Rachel Maddow (? spelling) on MSNBC, I felt a kinship of sorts as we were both strong intelligent women even though I didn't always agree with her opinions. Well that flew out the window the second she, and the entire democrat party became extremists.

Now it seems racism and other such accusations are simply a means of getting their way, both politically and privately (career, and even grocery store now) They have a power agenda and dont care whose head they stomp on - and no lie is too small if it helps them get their way..

I see and have seen a few people of less than sterling character( and shouldn't we judge people on their character rather than the color of their skin or the gender they identify with ) using their race or their gender to either bully or avoid consequences for their less than sterling actions. It is a problem for society but in particular a problem for those who actually are victims of the things the few I mentioned pretend to be victims of. I think there is enough actual racism and sexism in the world to go around and that claiming it where it is not present harms the real victims of those things more than anyone else. Calling someone a racist or a sexist ought not be something we do as often as we call someone a Conservative or a Liberal as there just aren't nearly as many misogynists or racists in the world as there are people with political preferences.

In my life in the US, I have experienced BOTH racism ... AND people using the FACT of racism to justify less than sterling behavior on their own part.

The existence of one set of poor behavior ... does not negate the existence of the other set of poor behavior. In fact, the two enable each other. If there was no racism, ... there would be no points to gain from any presumed racism.

Frankly, I have become somewhat "racist" because of all this nonsense. Whereas previously, I gave very little thought to the race of a person, over the last couple of months I now deliberately avoid engaging a Black person in any sort of conversation at all if it can be managed.

And that's the danger... that people start feeling it's safer just to avoid other races where possible.

That takes society in totally the wrong direction.

I do think having a tantrum over somebody having broken the sacred rule of the Express checkout is stupid. Take a deep breath, for crying out loud.
But falsely accusing the man of saying things he did not say.....that's OK? The lack of addressing the real issue, being falsely accused of racist overtones, seems to imply that.....

Unfortunately, I think many people are beginning to think that way.

My step-father used to call me "N___ Lover"…. now when I, myself, see a violent scene on TV, or hear something about "60 youths storming a store and looting it", I now almost always prejudge the race of the violators. And, I am correct 95% of the time.

I think there are a good number of people claiming racism to further themselves. There are conmen everywhere after all.

There are also a good number of people pointing to these incidents to dismiss all racism.

All forms of racism and xenophobia etc. etc stems from ignorance, so if we are going to be responsible members of society we should dispel, through actions and words, that ignorance...not feed it.

We live in the biggest experiment the world has ever seen, and if we will make it work we will learn to live here, together, with one common goal - that of freedom.

Dispel ignorance through knowledge and action.. not force. Live as one society, not many. We are either all American in this country or we are nothing at all.

That's unfortunate.

As I stated before, I've experienced both sides, but where I live there is a vast middle ground of persons who are content to live, and work, and play together, regardless of racial heritage.

Where I live, I see reports of criminals of all areas of racial heritage.

It is when we resort to grouping persons based on their outer characteristics that we abandon the principles of Christ, ... in Whom there is no difference ...

Sadly, "stereotypes" are NOT just pulled out of thin air.
But they can be unfairly applied ... which, if I'm not mistaken, is the definition of a stereotype.

Most whites would not wish to be thought of as David Dukes, though David Duke does exist.

Similarly, most blacks would rather not be thought of as Farrakhan, though Farrakhan also exists.

I recall being punished as a group for the actions of one or two when I was a child. It was not fair then, and it is not fair now ... nor is it christian.

I note that the incident being reported on is singular ... or are there other such events being reported on ?

Are there more of this type of event happening ... than of whites calling the cops on their black neighbors ?

We live in a fallen world. There will always be instances of extreme, yet typically singular, bad behavior ... which cuts across the human spectrum.

How fortunate that God does not condemn us all ... based upon the rejection of a few ... or by many.
