Have you ever got bothered that messages from people can pile up requiring you to throw your personal life away and keep replying to each message?

I find socializing to be a huge bottleneck for me. The 3 hours I can spend chatting with someone I can spend reading a book or pursuing a hobby or doing something that will effectively add to my success on the long run. Yet, it is not one person that one has to reply to :( I wonder how extraverts manage their tens of contacts actually.

I sometimes long to the idea that in the previous centuries people didn't have the annoying "Seen", "Delivered" and "Read" receipts that even make people much more bothered and "hurt" because you didn't reply in time. Back in those old centuries social interactions seemed to be more relaxing and human friendly. I hate the rush we have to go through now.

However, I won't deny that the same digital communication platforms brought a lot of good. I just don't like the social invasion one has to deal with.

Why cannot I just reply to whatever I want whenever I want? And read whatever I want to read? If I ignore others messages on digital communication platforms for days just to care for my life? (caring for my life includes caring for those I invested in and want to invest in as "exceptionally close")

I put this thread in The Kitchen Sink because I'm interested in the feedback of my fellow non-Christians as well :)

Lessesning time on social media sounds like a good idea.

Yeah, go ehomeless for a while...

*CF is the only social media I do...it's like my ehomeless shelter...

Oh haha you know, funny but someone a long time ago got herself a similar name like mine and oh she had so many problems with her boyfriend that I also could not log in for months and lost all contact with this forum... probably someone thought I had completedly stepped out of line. If you just go for a prayerwalk instead and pray for people instead of talking to everyone maybe life gets a bit calmer. But it can be frustrating to not speak ones mind. God bless you.

I've done this, with the exception of CF. It's awesome. Very simple. I have social anxiety and avoidance issues, and am shy, so now, I have more time to work on my real-life social skills! And sit outside and watch bunnies. Much better!

Well this is easy enough to solve: Go outside!

We don't have any bunnies here (unfortunately), but we do have cats, and frogs, and lizards. I'm sure in Australia you have all kinds of fascinating things. (I just wouldn't touch any of it, because I'm already afraid of your continent even when it's all the way down there.)

It depends on the nature of the discussion. If its filled with negativity, complaints, or silliness. I won’t bother for long. I don’t steep my spirit in those waters. It rubs off.

[quoteI find socializing to be a huge bottleneck for me. I’m an extrovert. But I have boundaries in my place to provide the solace and private time I require. I periodically withdraw from venues for an intentional reboot of sorts.

The trouble with the examples you’ve cited is the expectations the others have. There are many people lacking intimate contact in their daily lives. The Internet is often the lone place they can connect with someone.

I think it’s important to be mindful of what you can handle. To avoid causing hurt to others unintentionally. Some people need a level of support or closeness we’re unable to meet.

But if you realize that about yourself. Don’t begin something you can’t continue. Loneliness is a big part of this. You see it on CF as well.

You can respond in a timely fashion and should not be subject to dictation or pressure from anyone. It’s not the quantity of our connections. It’s the quality that counts. There should mutual sharing, growth and support.

But you won’t have that without putting boundaries in place and ceasing to subject yourself to people who have you jumping through hoops.

No exists for reason. Start using it. :)

Sometimes "fasting" from social media is a GOOD thing.

3 hrs chatting? online or on the phone?
how do you receive all these messages you return?

rarely get email messages anymore as most we know turned to FB

we're not on FB, instagram, etc
dropped our landline so no more answering machine messages

like the quiet of no more telemarketing calls
when we had landline, would talk to a couple friends & our calls could go up to an hr but never THREE

maybe I'm the exception but glad we're not partaking of all the social media available

Yennora, I am certainly in the minority, but even hate seeing icons for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other social media websites everywhere. I hate the fact that when people review websites for customized homepages or emails, such features are listed under pros if they have them or cons if they don't. God has to hate this too because fellowship "with one another" is not "with one another's portable computers." So I would be happy if we as Christians all boycotted social media to focus on fellowship as God intended.

Do you consider CF as social media or fellowship?

Fellowship, obviously. That word is all over the forum. By social media I am referring to the big bad sites: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and the like.

Yeah. What is cool about CF is you still get a social media "vibe". Profiles, personal info, an ability to create a photo album, an ability to poke and message people, etc., but it's Christian dialogue. I love that.

Andi even though most members are Christians, you don't have to talk about Christianity. It is fellowship.
