Wow...that was a nice one...biggest one I've been through...bigger than Northridge!!! 6.4!!

There was one in Las Vegas, Nv. around 10:35 am. My bed shook and my ceiling fan was rocking. Don't know magnitude. Looked it up and I was stunned---

Nevada has had: (M1.5 or greater)
  • 2 earthquakes in the past 24 hours
  • 38 earthquakes in the past 7 days
  • 166 earthquakes in the past 30 days
  • 1,881 earthquakes in the past 365 days
Had no idea there had been any!

I better check on the few left acquaintances I have at Fort Irwin.

Praying for your safety and protection.

The epicenter was near Death Valley?

San Bernardino County...near Ridgecrest...about 85 miles away...

Oh no:

"The 1995 Ridgecrest earthquake sequence started on August 17, when a magnitude 5.4 quake, centered 18 kilometers (11 mi) north of the town of Ridgecrest, shook the area and spawned over 2,500 aftershocks over the course of the following five weeks. Then, on September 20, 1995, the second large quake struck the area: it measured magnitude 5.8, and was at that time the largest earthquake to hit southern California since the January 17, 1994 Northridge earthquake.[11]"

Oh no...Northridge was 6.7...But, I'm closer to this epicenter!

*Actually, I was closer to the Northridge, but this felt bigger...probably because I was awake for this one and the Northridge shook me awake.

Yikes! Didn't feel anything here in the capital...then again, we're almost four hundred miles north. Geez...California is too dang big. Time to split it up into a few smaller states. Finally liberate Orange County from those filthy hippies up in Humboldt County. Haha. I'm glad you're all okay, though! I remember the 1989 Loma Prieta quake in the Bay Area (which I was to the north of again, since I grew up in Sonoma County, but we definitely felt it!). I was actually on the school bus coming home from my school day when it hit, and as you probably know most school buses don't have seat belts. So little Jeremy went sliding off his seat right into the isle as the ground began to shake underneath us. That was it for me, though. My poor older brother was already home from school, and had gone to get a glass of water in the kitchen only to have several glasses fall out of the cupboard and shatter on the floor as the quake started right as he opened the cupboard door. Oops. And then for a few days afterwards we had to run to the nearest doorway whenever there was an aftershock. It was actually pretty nerve-wracking. And of course the loss of life and destruction was absolutely horrific. That was a 6.9, so a little bit stronger than this recent one, but anything in the 6s can do major damage and kill people. May God keep you all safe. Lord have mercy!
