  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What human species was Adam and Eve?

The easy answer is Homo sapiens because God made man on the "sixth day" and sapiens (our species) were the last humans to be created. Sapiens are also the only surviving humans, so it is very hard for people to picture Adam and Eve being more like chimpanzees than Jesus.

However, the first humans who could stand on two feet were Homo erectus and very similar to chimps. Neanderthals came before Homo sapiens, who literally married them into extinction. It is even possible some people living today had Neanderthal amcestors. I learned all this stuff at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum in Washington, DC.

So were Adam and Eve really Homo sapiens or literally the first male and female humans? And if they were the same species we are, did Adam look like Jesus?

That’s hard to say because there are about 25 proto Homo sapiens species that are not chimp ancestors . Neanderthals ( H neanderthalensis) were a different species of human but they were so closely related that they could produce fertile hybrids with H sapiens . There were at least 4 species of humans 50,000 years ago . H erectus, H neanderthalensis, H floresiensis, and the only survivor H sapiens

I never realised that the missing link had been discovered. As far I know humans are still fully human. And monkeys, chimpanzees are still fully ape.

humans actually are apes . The old family name for the non human apes Pongidae has been officially retired for about 20 years and they are now in Hominidae with humans and extinct protohumans . The decision to group humans with the other apes was made after the chimp and human genome projects were completed during the late 90s . We are more closely related to chimps than zebras are to horses and they are both in genus Equus

We have tailbones because our distant ancestors had tails. God created various types of Apes/Monkeys and the last one was us, related to some of the others but altered through God's version of Evolution. Modern Evolutionists have merely misinterpreted the evidence God left behind that links us to animals he made before making modern humans.

brightmoon we may all be from the same chemical make up with many animals such as apes. And that would be a natural conclusion if you go with that line of thought. But there is no connection or evidence of a human ever descending from a ape. There has been many assumptions but they were later proven not be true. Of course you have had the many fabrications as well such as the Piltdown man . And what a forgery that truly was.

Ewq animals and fish have teeth just as we. Doesn’t mean they are human and doesn’t mean we are a fish. Are you sure there is a connection with our tailbone as you so call.

We actually are sarcoperygians (lobefin fish) too as well as being apes . You still have your gills (parathyroids) and the skull (brain-case in a fish and top of your vertebral column in a human) and skullroof (top of your head) that fish have . Of course all vertebrates have vertebrae and we share those with fish as well.
As far as us being animals. All humans are mammals and all mammals are vertebrates. All vertebrates are bilaterians and all bilaterians are animals . So yes we are animals

Well are actually what ? Saroperygians. Haha. Well I shall have to practice my oral vocabulary to get my tongue around that : ) ok you say it’s a lobofin fish. And I shall keep the Bilaterians in mind. But for now I shall stay fully human. Brightmoon you do continue have a nice day.

Bilaterian- animals with a head and an anus and a left and right side. Everything from worms to humans in other words. Here’s how we’re related to other animals. The genetic info of common descent matches this developmental info

Sarcopterygian literally means fleshy fins

Humans have tails, small ones obviously because we used to have tails. Why would a human have a tail?

Monkeys and apes have tails? Is it impossible that God could have made apes etc then made humans from that ape design but made it different? Why couldn't God have made things in such an order, changing each new thing so it was different than it's ancestor but also had things in common? It seems orderly and intelligent to me.

seems orderly and intelligent to me too that humans are apes . Anatomically, genetically , developmentally , socially and behaviorally humans are apes. We differ in that we have weaker jaw muscles that attach on the side of our head . Put your hand by your temple and chew you can feel these muscles . In the other apes they attach at the top of the head and in gorillas it attaches to a ridge of bone at the top of the skull . Humans smaller jaw muscles allowed the bone at the top of our heads to expand . This is one reason we have a larger brain .
We also have long legs and hairless skin ( which the other apes don’t have) because we evolved as long distance running animals

I really hope this thread won't end up in a creationist vs evolutionist debate. Anyway, as for me, I believe that Adam and Eve are, if evolved, Homo Sapiens. I also believe that modern humans are those that were indicated as "in the image of God". My view on this is that evolution occured over billions of years that occured as if they were a single day. As if you play a video with a very high speed multiplier. And that the final, perfect product was Adam and Eve ending up as the modern humans.

Again, my views are hypothetical and i'm still paving my way into this. I admit that i still have a lot to learn and discern and i shouldn't act as if i was all knowing. Our knowledge as humans is still extremely limited.

It just might end up as a creationist vs evolution “debate” . But there isn’t really a debate . Creationists lost this one over 150 years ago

Whatever perspective you choose to accept, be it young or old earth, Adam and Eve are the first to have knowledge of sin and the first to need salvation. I understand the early Genesis accounts to have different roles than a literal exposition but I tend to be agnostic as to what really happened.

In a literal vacuum, there are some odd things in the text that can't be reconciled, like why does Cain need to be marked if children of Adam and Eve are the only ones that populate the earth?

If we are to put all pre-Abrahamic accounts on the table the genealogies of Genesis establish a redeemed somewhat royal line from Adam. Perhaps this establishes superior species co-existing with inferior and in need of some sort of species cleansing (the flood event) to ensure the best ones were preserved.

But I think it gets dangerous interpreting these accounts like this as it can create odd ideas about the nature and character of God unsupported in scripture. Perhaps the early accounts of stories are used to point to God and are not literal but I think hyper-analyzing them in a literal vacuum or an evolution vacuum is going to point to something the text is never meant to reveal.

It is not logical.

Things with similar features has no causative relationship to each other.

e.g. private cars has head light ,the bus has bigger head light , the bus must be evolved from cars!

If you believe in divine creation it would probably make you feel less of a special snowflake that God created you from ape template 1 C 47 D addendum (remove tail).

And if you do not need to feel like that special snowflake you are already much more open to idea of evolution after which you will not need to invent stuff up anymore to explain all of those physical clues evolution has left in our bodies.

Biblically, God created Adam and Eve and through them was the beginning of mankind (species)

Genesis 1:27
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

Mankind were created in the image/likeness of God. Animals are not.

All the animals were created before man (was created). The bible makes a clear distinction between man/animals, and distinctions within the animals themselves.

All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fish, another of birds 1 Corinthians 15:39.

Genesis 2:7
Then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living person.

*In the Hebrew it says, became the man/mankind.

Man was formed from the dust of the ground .... not from a animal.

1 Corinthians 15

49 Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust (Adam), we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven.

Philippians 2:5–8

5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant,3 being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

"So were Adam and Eve really Homo sapiens or literally the first male and female humans? And if they were the same species we are, did Adam look like Jesus?"

No different than what we see today. We all have human form, yet we are not exact replicas/duplicates of one another (i.e. what we look like)

Taxonomists (biologists who classify all organisms) have rules for determining this stuff. For humans, this starts with animals, than later branches off in completely different categories from fish. It does not take a long time to see this separation. When it comes to determining what a human is based on their anatomy, start at the top: we are mammals and only mammals have hair.
