The most successful business man of all time is bound to have some ups and downs. The only thing that the failing New York Times (sad) has are some illegal stolen private tax returns supplied by some dirty low life snitch looser from a small period of time when all business were in the red. Of course the pushers of fake news are going to latch onto this 30 year old bit of history to enrage their base (ANTIFA) to encourage more violence on peaceful Trump supporters and try (unsuccessfully) to paint the most popular elected President in a negative light. BIG FAIL! Trumps approval is highest yet!

You only thought you knew how much money he lost...

Decade in the Red: Trump Tax Figures Show Over $1 Billion in Business Losses

I guess he really was #1 at something.
It's old news and most billionaires lose a lot of money over time. It's nothing new. And the tax laws for billionaires is different than it is for others. There's a lot that billionaires like Trump, Cuban, Buffet and other rich people can write off and don't have to pay taxes on.

This issue with Trump's taxes has already been in the public eye back in 2015-16 and so this is just warmed over stew, nothing that hasn't come out before.

What tax laws for billionaires?

There's a difference between what a person can do and what they have done.

They don't have to pay taxes on losses. Trump back in the 90s lost something like $900 million and didn't have to pay taxes for years.

There's a difference between what a person can do and what they have done.
Trump didn't have to pay taxes and he didn't. It was completely legal.

The real problem is, who leaked his tax records? That is an illegal act, a felony. Even the president has a right to privacy. And it was pretty pointless given that it shows that Trump followed the law.

Is it not illegal to release tax returns without a judge or the individual consenting?

"While The Times did not obtain the president’s actual tax returns, it received the information contained in the returns from someone who had legal access to it. The Times was then able to find matching results in the I.R.S. information on top earners — a publicly available database that each year comprises a one-third sampling of those taxpayers, with identifying details removed. It also confirmed significant findings using other public documents, along with confidential Trump family tax and financial records from the newspaper’s 2018 investigation into the origin of the president’s wealth."

I guess committing felony’s are applauded as long as it is the President.

The Democrats seem to have refined two things these last two years.

Leaking

And defying laws that are against their motives.
I doubt the New York Times would be foolish enough to commit a felony obtaining this information and then publish it in their widely read publication.

"Legal access" does not mean they had the legal right to disclose that information. The information is still protected and still private and no one has the right to violate anyone's privacy in this manner.

I think they would do anything if they thought it had a chance of taking down Trump. Besides, the Left can call for the president's death and no one does anything about it. So they have good reason to believe they are safe.

That's true, but I'm pretty sure the crime would be on the person who handed them over. I'm pretty sure they have the right to print the returns as news.

They're pretty safe anyway. The issue they face is whether a judge will force them to reveal their source.

Like what they did when Comey illegally leaked documents through a friend?

Was it legal to release that information?

Yes or no

It was legal for the NYT to publish it.

I have no idea if it was legally released. As I said already "Possibly not".
