You only thought you knew how much money he lost...

Decade in the Red: Trump Tax Figures Show Over $1 Billion in Business Losses

The data — printouts from Mr. Trump’s official Internal Revenue Service tax transcripts, with the figures from his federal tax form, the 1040, for the years 1985 to 1994 — represents the fullest and most detailed look to date at the president’s taxes, information he has kept from public view. Though the information does not cover the tax years at the center of an escalating battle between the Trump administration and Congress, it traces the most tumultuous chapter in a long business career — an era of fevered acquisition and spectacular collapse.

The numbers show that in 1985, Mr. Trump reported losses of $46.1 million from his core businesses — largely casinos, hotels and retail space in apartment buildings. They continued to lose money every year, totaling $1.17 billion in losses for the decade.

In fact, year after year, Mr. Trump appears to have lost more money than nearly any other individual American taxpayer, The Times found when it compared his results with detailed information the I.R.S. compiles on an annual sampling of high-income earners. His core business losses in 1990 and 1991 — more than $250 million each year — were more than double those of the nearest taxpayers in the I.R.S. information for those years.

I guess he really was #1 at something.

I guess he really was #1 at something.

Which explains why US banks stopped loaning to him, and he had to seek financing elsewhere, with Trump Jr. indicating that a large amount was Russian.

"In terms of high-end product influx into the US, Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross-section of a lot of our assets," Donald Trump Jr. said at a New York real-estate conference that year. "Say, in Dubai, and certainly with our project in SoHo, and anywhere in New York. We see a lot of money pouring in from Russia."

I wonder how much he owes to Russia?

This would explain Russia wanting Trump to win as well as why Trump has been so amicable toward Russia. I believe the Mueller Report that Trump had nothing to do with Russian hacking, but his ties to Russia go way back.

Donald Trump's ties to Russia go back 30 years

I hope the OP doesn't consider this a derail. IMO, it's a direct corollary to his early business failures in the US.

And, this is very important to all of our personal lives, because ... reasons.

It's not terribly important, though, it hopefully does tamp down some of the "businessman" rhetoric that his supporters like to trot out. We all knew that was sycophantic nonsense, but now we have more evidence to back our assumptions.

I'm more interested in his more recent returns. That said, there's this:

The conjecture is that he is basically broke and in hock to Russian banks.

That kind of debt is a big red flag when applying for a security clearance, because it suggests that you pose a blackmail risk. Desperately trying to hide such secrets is like doubling down on those red flags.

The leader of our country is a con man who faked being rich and successful. It’s pretty historic.

And is deep in debt to a foreign country... and has gone to great lengths to hide it.
