Neither of those holds any water, but they sure sound important.

The Salvation Army has no record of him being a Freemason. The Masons have no record, either, and the Masons proudly claim people of his stature. The "signs in his photos" that you refer to are a hand in the jacket. Like posing without smiling, that was the pose that almost all prominent men adopted in the 19th century when sitting or standing for a formal portrait. Napoleon is shown that way. Lincoln is pictured that way. Neither was a Mason. Scads of famous men from that era are shown in the exact same way--and there are numerous examples to be found online. So the photos of William Booth doing Masonic signs in his photos and reports of Masonic website saying he was a member, and my wife seeing a guy with a Masonic symbol on his shirt were all just illusions? I think not. Are you a Free Mason?

As for your wife seeing a church member with a Masonic emblem on his clothing...yes, I suppose she might have, considering that the great majority of Masons in this country are Christians and churchgoers. It doesn't mean that there is any special connection between the Salvation Army and Freemasonry.

If you have other questions about Masonry, take them to the Conspiracy Theories forum where the topic belongs.
The Salvation Army does not have enough personnel to man all the kettles during the Christmas season for all the hours needed; and so she solicits volunteers from civic organizations.No. See post #10.
