  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

No Compromise at the Border

Given the loss of 40 seats from the 2018 Interims, how long will those Republican Senators who are up for re-election in 2020 be content to stand by and ignore their constitutional responsibility to keep the federal government operating?

Last January 2018 , the Democrats offered this President $25 billion for the wall in exchange for legislation providing a pathway to citizenship for the Dreamers, the conservative media pressured the White House to reject any deal so now they have no one to blame but themselves!

Border patrol agents don’t like concrete or steel walls because they block surveillance capabilities.

Border patrol agents like physical barriers/walls because they are an absolute necessity in securing the border.

I actually chose the phrase "ahead of the curve" so as not to make it personal. Guess when someone has a chip on their shoulder they find ways to read insults into everything.

Your responses are loaded with subtle ad homs (this one not so subtle).

And how, exactly, does that change the fact that US native citizens commit more crimes per capita than illegal immigrants?

That doesn't change it but it might explain it. Do you think illegals have higher moral character than citizens?

Are you saying it is IMPOSSIBLE for the US Government to waste money?

Wow.

Well, then, if you truly and honestly believe it is impossible to waste money then I guess there's ZERO reason to not build the wall out of SOLID PLATINUM.

That would certainly be a waste of platinum. ^_^

Seems like you're more interested in appearance than effectiveness.

Actually just the opposite. Any barrier should be stark and foreboding.

Why do you believe this is true? There was this little thing after WWII called the the Berlin Wall. People knew it was there and knew the men guarding the wall had orders to shoot to kill anyone attempting to breach the wall. They tried anyway and many succeeded.

Sometimes when your conditions are so horrific and desperate, the potential for death is not a deterrent to escape.

True, but we don't shoot those who attempt to cross our border (and many who crossed the Berlin Wall paid bribes).

Except in this case, We, The People, are the venture capitalists and the majority don't like the risk.

I'm looking forward to my tax break. You?

Yeah, God forbid that the limited resources of the police go towards deporting the truly dangerous criminals as opposed to the student that was brought here as a child and has been a pillar of the community ever since.

Both groups seem to be quite safe from deportation.

How many millions of Border Patrol Agents and "attack dogs" will it take to secure 2000 miles of border?

No need to patrol the whole border. Lets say 1000 miles x 9 guards per mile x 3 shifts = 27,000 (more or less) plus support personnel. If the border is secured many who now process illegals won't be needed. So there may actually be fewer personnel needed if the border was secured. Also most of those needed are already on the government payroll; border guards, military, law enforcement.

you do know that $5 billion is just the seed money to get the wall off the drawing board, right? Actual costs for the wall will be anywhere from $21B to $70B just for the physical wall, then hundreds of millions annually to staff/maintain it.

When it fails, that will be a LOT of money wasted.

Except there is no evidence to support that claim.

So let's build a $5 billion dollar barrier and see what happens, then go from there.

Do you receive Social Security or Medicare? If so, congratulations, you are part of the largest group receiving welfare benefits in the country.

You have to pay into it to get benefits. SS is support solely by workers contributions. There is even a surplus that we loan to the government.

BTW, undocumented immigrants/illegal aliens don't qualify for most welfare benefits and pay a lot more into Social Security than they will ever receive in benefits.

That's a good thing.

No fence = open border.
Fence? Not sure what you mean. Trump promised a wall, not a fence.

But ignoring that, if this is true Trump's plan calls for open borders. At least the times the plan calls for anything other than a complete sea-to-sea wall. Which is every few times it changes forms, from what I can see.

Trump has agreed to a fence, therefore it will be a fence. Possibly the kind Chuck and Nancy enthusiastically supported just a few years ago. (Is it ok to bring that up?)

One unverified person in a YouTube video does not convince me. Not to mention that your video does nothing to refute the two claims made. Walls may work in certain situations, but they still have issues.
