  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

No Compromise at the Border.

Except that they will get backpay, so in that sense they are not working without pay, but if they choose not to work they do not deserve back pay.
They will only get back pay if Congress legislates it and Trump signs it.

Government workers probably have cash reserves on hand for such contingencies.
What makes you think that?

They can also draw on savings, stocks, bonds, etc. (Cashing in cd's is not a good idea however as there would be large penalties.)

Eviction is not likely as landlords know that those will likely receive back pay. They also hold security deposits that can be held against rent due. Also notice must be given which actually allows time to catch up on rent.
What fantasy world are you living in? Notice to evict is usually 30 days. Trump has proposed letting the shutdown go for months or years.

Normal living expenses have to paid in any case. The small amount of interest paid on credit is easily offset by reducing some costs such as food, entertainment, travel, and other unnecessary expenditures.
Seriously? How easy is it to immigrate to this fantasy world of yours?

Missed this earlier. This is actually illegal, and you should know this, being a landlord. Security deposits are ONLY to be used to cover damages to the unit and MUST be returned to the tenant if there is no damage, even if they are evicted or break their lease. If back rent is owed, you have to sue for that.

How long before unpaid workers walk off the job? How long before furloughed workers begin marching with the unpaid that walk off the job? How long before GOP legislators get fed up with he who shall not be named? How long before Congress gives him a funding bill that is veto proof?
Two years.

We could compromise by agreeing that border security is important and taking the advice of experts on how to mitigate the issues.
The experts are the border patrol agents.
The wall is nothing more then a distraction.
Not according to the border patrol agents.

While the wall (or fence) would stop illegals from crossing the border it's real strength is that it will eventually stop people from leaving their countries with crossing illegally in mind in the first place.
Why do you believe this is true? There was this little thing after WWII called the the Berlin Wall. People knew it was there and knew the men guarding the wall had orders to shoot to kill anyone attempting to breach the wall. They tried anyway and many succeeded.

Sometimes when your conditions are so horrific and desperate, the potential for death is not a deterrent to escape.

Trump is unwittingly using the biblical principle of "knowing the strength of your army before going to war".

The term "open borders" means come one come all (and please vote Democrat).
Then name a Democrat that wants that. We're waiting.

What Happened When A Trump Supporter Challenged Me About the Wall

6. Border patrol agents don’t like concrete or steel walls because they block surveillance capabilities. In other words, they can’t mobilize correctly to meet challenges. So in many ways, a wall makes their job more difficult.

7. Border patrol agents say, “Walls are meaningless without agents and technology to back them up.” Are we prepared to pour countless billions annually — after the wall is built — to create a nearly 2,000 mile, militarized 24-hour surveillance border operation? Because according to patrol agents, that’s the only way a wall would work. Again, are we really, going to use East Germany, a brutal communist state, as our model here?

I meant that he can't plan the wall until he knows how much money he will get to pay for it.

It's all there, 'between the lines' of their proposals.
IOW, "I'm just going to make claims that I can't support".

Not only that but sanctuary cities once the illegals are here.
Yeah, God forbid that the limited resources of the police go towards deporting the truly dangerous criminals as opposed to the student that was brought here as a child and has been a pillar of the community ever since.

How do they get across my fence with an armed security guard, and an attack dog, staring them in the face?
How many millions of Border Patrol Agents and "attack dogs" will it take to secure 2000 miles of border?

I'm not so sure of that. Why don't they give Trump his measly $5 billion. When the wall fails they can say I told you so. Problem solved.
you do know that $5 billion is just the seed money to get the wall off the drawing board, right? Actual costs for the wall will be anywhere from $21B to $70B just for the physical wall, then hundreds of millions annually to staff/maintain it.

When it fails, that will be a LOT of money wasted.

Of course the problem is that they know the wall will succeed, thus their fear and intransigence.
Except there is no evidence to support that claim.

It may be discriminatory, but certainly not racist. We don't need more uneducated workers who quickly fill up the welfare rolls (which are bursting at the seams already).
Do you receive Social Security or Medicare? If so, congratulations, you are part of the largest group receiving welfare benefits in the country.

BTW, undocumented immigrants/illegal aliens don't qualify for most welfare benefits and pay a lot more into Social Security than they will ever receive in benefits.

Once he invokes those powers, he has no need to "cave" to anyone. He can reopen the government unilaterally, he has control of the media (including the internet) and can suspend habeus corpus it will. As soon as some group like Antifa stages a provocative protest he can use the army to make a bloodbath of it and his power will become absolute.
Well, that's just terrifying.

Not according to the border patrol agents.
Per the Border Patrol agents in question:
