when facts fail then what can be done

Which is why I don't begrudge you for it -- I like good hypothetical as much as the next person, and indeed, they can be quite useful... but there's far too much reality here to discuss to let ourselves be distracted.

Give us a number...how many US residents would a foreign authoritarian have to kill before your "meh" turned into something a little more indignant...?

In all fairness, "resident" =/= "citizen." Donald's feelings towards foreigners in America are well known... and lamented.

All I can do is provide the facts the rest is up to you

You didn't provide any facts. You provided some links to a website.

What you didn't do: You didn't present any bullets of anything Saudi Arabia has done for the US.

Where, for instance, have they ever captured and prosecuted anyone who was planning a terrorist act against the US or anywhere in the West? When have they ever provided intelligence? When have they ever been involved in anti-terrorist police or military activity in the West?

Do you see Saudi police working with Western police forces as consultants?

After 9/11, did you see the Saudis involved in tracking down the terrorist connections?

What does Saudi Arabia do to fight the terrorism that they engender around the world?

Anyone else find it telling that Mr. "America First" has more praise and kind words for the people who killed Jamal Khashoggi than he does for the people who killed Osama Bin Laden?
Or that he had much stronger words for a journalist asking a question than he did for the cold blooded murder of a journalist.

I guess it helps to think of them as enemies.

My understanding is the some people from S.A. purchased units in a Trump project. I may be wrong on this but I think it was a project that did not belong to Trump but was using his name to attract customers. He sold name rights on several projects that he hand no ownership in.
They bought his yacht when he needed to raise cash.

Jamal Khashoggi was a Saudi journalist who was first banned from writing in, and then brutally murdered by, his government -- which our president sides with over our own intelligence agencies because in his mind, journalists are the "enemies of the people."

A Saudi national is killed by agents of the Saudi government in a Saudi consulate on foreign soil - you want the United States to instigate an international conflict with Saudi Arabia over this? The very fact that Trump's critics do is evidence that he was the peace candidate in 2016.

An employee of an American newspaper abducted, murdered, and chopped to pieces, and Donald cant even pretend to care because the Saudis pay him off...

It seems that as long as you're not born on american soil, you have no human rights in the eyes of some people.

If this had been China (or Pakistan) killing a dissident journalist, do you think Trump's response would have been the same? What about if it had been Russia?
Russia killing journalists? Say it aint so.

I think his lack of empathy doesn’t discriminate.

I'll say it more explicitly: Saudi national killed by the Saudi government in a Saudi consulate. That sounds like an internal affair. The US economy benefits from good relations with Saudi Arabia; ought we to ruin it over this?

When a US ally uses its embassies as kill sites it is international. Last time I checked Saudi has both an embassies and us residents in the US.

Though thanks for once again confirming that the pro-life stops at birth.

You left out the part where he was working for an American company located in the United States.

I dunno. Does Trump have financial interests with Pakistan?

Although he appears to lack this basic human quality, he does discriminate based on his personal (financial) interest.

Saudi Arabia benefits from the relationship as well. Who covered their butts when Iraq moved next door?

Sounds like you are in fact conceding he was murdered for his views.

Would it ruin our good relations if our president expressed at least a mild disapproval? Surely he can fake at least that much, even over a hated journalist...

That's a considerable point.

"The United States believes in the importance of a free and independent press, and as such, we condemn the political assassination of Jamal Khashoggi as an attempt to stifle and intimidate the press."

Is Donald so afraid of offending the Saudi royalty that he can't even say that? He doesn't have to mean it -- certainly nobody expects him to -- but can't he at least say it?

Sheesh, I remember when you people got your knickers in a twist over Obama (literally) bowing to a Saudi -- Now your great leader has all but (figuratively) groveled at their feet.
