Hehe. Of course it is, we are on the same side remember?

Tongues is a wonderful gift, it just doesn't look so good on paper!
My laptop doesn't have all the right symbols either for tongues of angels!:holy:

LOL! I was pretty sure you were joking, but you were usually so serious in the other thread. It's nice to be able to have some fun!

I tried passing the odd humourous comment on the other thread and ended up getting lambasted by all the usual unbelievers.

Its nice to be among friendly faces for a change.

Yeah, they just don't get that charismatic sense of humor.

I don't know... I can put my language on paper.
rebusikunda nabundu quitawi siundai kimata! (The Lord is high and lifted up and worthy to be praised!). I just said the words and then wrote down what I said. By the way, the interpretation is not a direct translation - it is the interpretation that I needed to give seeing it was public, and it came to me when I asked for it.

Tongues is made up of real words. There is a difference between speaking with the mouth, which can just be babbling, and speaking expressively from the heart with real words (even if it is a language we have never learned). Just letting your mouth babble out anything is not faith. Faith is speaking a deliberate language to express what you want to say to God when you don't know how to express how you feel in your heart. Some people think that emptying the mind and letting the mouth flap is speaking in tongues. I really doubt that. The Holy Spirit is not an idiot and He doesn't expect us to act like idiots either. An idiot might go, "babababababababa" but a person speaking from his spirit is speaking an articulate language. I can give my example here because it is a safe forum of like minded people who understand what I am talking about. Here is another example of the articulate language I speak. I don't think I am being disrespectful to the gift. In fact, I am showing how great it is!

I prefer to think of it as bypassing the human mind, NOT emptying the mind as in mystical meditation, which I don't believe is of the Holy Spirit. (That debate is for a different thread.) Paul said, "Then what am I to do? I will pray with my spirit [by theHoly Spirit that is within me], but I will also pray [intelligently] with my mind and understanding;..." (1 Cor. 14:15, AMPC)

When I KNOW what to pray with my mind, I do so, but many times I don't know how to pray as I should, and the Holy Spirit moves on me to pray in the Spirit (which never sounds like bababababa, by the way). Praying in the Spirit takes faith because I usually have no idea what I'm praying. I just know that when the Spirit leads, I can't help but to pray!

Praying in tongues doesn't switch the mind off. It merely bypasses intelligible language. But it is still intelligent language, except we don't understand what we are saying, but are believing in faith that God does. Often when I know I want to pray about a particular issue and I don't what what to pray, I will ask the Lord to guide my words to express my heart to Him on the matter. Often I will start speaking a different language than my normal one. But they will be definite words and phrases just like any other language, but not just a string of meaningless syllables. I know why I am praying, and what I want from God in general, but I don't know exactly what I am praying. Praying in tongues is not random. It is directed toward God for a definite purpose, and not just punctuation between our "understanding" prayers.

I didn't say it switches the mind off. That would be like stilling or emptying the mind. I said "bypassing." You and I seem to agree on this more or less, but it sounds like you're arguing against my position. Now, mind you, I spent a lot of time in the Cessationist thread, so this may just be some residual stuff from that.

No, I am not arguing against your position. I firmly believe in the gift of tongues and have been speaking it since 1966. I think that my direction is more toward intercession than worship when I use it. That is probably why I use a very expressive language with definite words and phrases.

I believe I'm always interceding when praying in the Spirit, maybe because of this verse:

Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request, and stay alert in this with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints. (Eph 6:18)

I used to run Charismatic Central. (it is closed now) It was a safe haven for Spirit Filled believers. You would not believe how many cessationist's used to come in there to set our doctrine straight. It was very annoying.

Yeah, I'm not sure why they fight so hard to try and prove their unbiblical position!

It is a confirmation that Charismatic Central was a good one, and was threatening to the devil. That's why he sent his representatives to disrupt it to the point where the good work that was being done was being corrupted by these false believers.

I love praying in tongues and I agree, it is excellent for intercession on issues we don't have all the facts.

Tongues is not just about addressing the Lord in prayer, but excellent in addressing demons in warfare.

About 30 years ago, a close friend lost her husband to a very sudden fatal heart attack. It turned out to be a congenital fault and his widow asked if we would pray for her brother in law who lived the other side of the country, who would also have the same problem.

My wife and I started warfare, in English at first, rebuking the spirit of death in the man.

I was standing in the middle of our living room, with my eyes completely closed and facing the front window. My wife was sitting on the sofa, also with her eyes completely closed.

Very quickly we moved into tongues as we confronted the spirit of death and this carried on for some time.

As I was rebuking this demonic strongman in tongues, I had also been bending down and picking imaginary rocks from the living room carpet and throwing them at him, out the window!

In the midst of this I suddenly found myself transported in the Spirit to a completely different location.

Instead of my living room, I was now standing in a very arid hot place with the sun glaring red in the sky. It was like the set up of a gun fight in a western movie.
I was at one end of a very dusty street with low adobe type shacks, and at the other end facing me was a very black evil entity.
I was picking rocks up from the street and stoning him in unison with the words in tongues. As I did this, the demon was ducking and diving as it backed away in fear.

As this went on, my wife was also vociferous in her tongues.

Suddenly she changed to English, "We stone you out of the town!"

I was shocked, and asked why she had said that. Her reply was to describe the vision that she had been in, which had obviously been the same as mine including stoning the demon with tongues!

When I asked if she had seen me picking rocks up off the carpet, she told me that her eyes had been closed all the time from the beginning.

That's a great testimony! Now that you mention it, I have done warfare by praying in the Spirit.

I discovered "strong tongues" which is excellent for spiritual warfare. I first saw it in my old pastor - when he spoke in a particular tongue it made the hairs on the back of neck go up. It was a "put hairs on your chest" tongue, quite different from his ordinary praise and worship tongue. It was using that tongue that demons seemed to flee when he cast them out. I tried to copy it when I was younger, but it didn't work for me - because I was copying it. Never works when you copy someone else's gift. :)

But in later years I found that it started to happen to me where the language changed and it flowed out of me instead of me trying to make it happen. It has usually happened when I have been interceding, and I knew when the victory came because there was a release of joy and my tongue went back to normal.

I wrote an article about it, and it was well received, especially by brothers in Africa.

I don't know. You will have to ask WOFFER.
As you might know the Prophetic and Deliverance Ministry forums here on CF got shut down for basically the same reasons. Too many trolls giving inappropriate prophecies and rubbishing those who were giving good ones; and the same trolls posting rubbish and nonsense on the Deliverance Ministry forum, creating confusion and disorder instead of answering questions reasonably. The devil has his representatives everywhere, including CF. The Scripture says that we should be sober and vigilant knowing that the devil goes around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8), and on a forum like this, we need to watch out for those "roaring lions" who disrupt threads to do the evil one's work.
