  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I guess there won't be a wall after all.

This area includes nearly 5,000
parcels of property in a wall's likely path - which could prompt court battles between the US government and private landowners.
It could do worse than that. As the fence cannot go through the protected wetlands it has to be several hundred feet inland in some places which serves, at least in a couple places, to fence US farms and the farmer's homes on the south side of the fence. They sometimes have to drive several hours to get to a break in the fence they can pass through. It will be fun to see how that works out. :)

I’m sure the landowners will be less than amused at having their property fenced off.

Glad you appreciate the skills of the people that pick the fruit and vegetables you buy at your local market.
We are badly in need of reform at the federal level. We need a workable guest worker program.

Both parties want foreign nationals to be admitted to the US.

The Republicans want cheap stoop labor and the Democrats want to register them to vote. :)

What do you think I'm not seeing?
The first picture is the new fence. About 10 feet of solid concrete topped by another 10 feet of fencing.

The second picture is the old fence that has been in place for 15-20 years and is made up of steel slats positioned like partially opened venetian blinds.

I didn't say "federal." Most of the wetlands and bird sanctuaries are state owned.

Yes. That's true. And the rules, even there, are different in Texas. Years ago, the Corps of Engineers channelized the San Antonio River to control flooding. In the process, they ruined an aqueduct system that had been irrigating fields for hundreds of years.

When approached by lawyers for the farmers, the Corps lawyers laughed and pointed to the law giving them immunity from such actions.

Then the lawyers for the farmers showed them the laws of Spanish land grants, and the Treaty of Annexation, and the Corps lawyers stopped laughing. The farmers mostly retired on the proceeds.

The people patrolling the border prefer to be able to see what goes on on the other side.

I appreciate their work ethic. The stuff they pick, not so much.

Silver lining: Republicans increase their lead in the Senate. So...tick-tock, Ruthie. Tick-tock.

Not if he waits until 2020 to retire... McConnell would never allow a vote for a new SCOTUS justice in 2020, right?

Some will welcome it. And gates will be provided so they will have access to all their lands.

Which means emergency vehicles and responders can't get to their homes in a timely manner.

My understanding, these issues already exist from Bush's fence.

As was shown from the statistics, eVerify, combined with serious penalties for those that hire illegals, makes far more sense than a wall. Not only would this largely stop illegal immigration, it would also cause most here illegally to "self deport" as they could no longer make money.

ICE/CBP caught 50,000+ illegally cross our borders every month for the last 3 months. And they admit they only catch about 10-15% of those crossing our borders every month.
There is a half a million people crossing our border every month? This is your claim?
