  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How many times does it have to be pointed out that the republicans have been in control of both houses over the last two years before you stop using the democrats as an excuse?

OK. Point out exactly how they have obstructed this important work. What plans have Republicans put forward and how did the democrats stop it?

How many time does it have to be pointed out the margin is too small to have to rely on Dems at all.

Realy? You don't know???? You act like Democrats in congress are eagerly looking forward to move bills Trump proposes thru the works without obstructing them.

Just get out of the way it would already be done.

....and some GOP Senators support this as well....

Grassley, Smith op-ed: It’s Time for Action on E-Verify
Jun 27, 2018

"We look forward to the continued discussions surrounding immigration reform. And we hope that Congress will recognize the mistakes of 1986 and finally shut off the jobs magnet once and for all. The American people depend on us to restore integrity to our immigration system. We cannot fail them."

Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) is the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Congressman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) is a former chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. Both lawmakers have introduced legislation making E-Verify mandatory.

So D-Sen. McCaskill proposed a bill and it is stuck in committee -- a committee chaired by R-Sen. Grassley. I don't see how this is Democrats preventing e-Verify.

It appears Senators from both parties have submitted bills....yet not even a peep (or tweet) from Trump....

Also, the Democrats can block cloture in the Senate, but they have no such power in the House. If this was really a Republican priority, why didn't they try to pass it in the House first and then try to pressure the Democrats in the Senate to follow through?

Pres. Trump called for making improvements to the E-Verify system in order to support a nationwide mandate in his 2018 budget request to Congress. Requiring all employers to use E-Verify is the top step in our 'Ten Steps to Fixing the Broken Immigration Enforcement System'.

Pres. Trump will need help from Congress, though........

Oh I wonder why nothing is getting done.....
All the Republicans had to do was pass a law that mandates using it, so why haven't they?

I suspect Trump knows that if he gets eVerify up and running that he will have no chance at getting his wall built.
Everify has been up and running for several years. AZ passed a law that all employers in that state MUST use it.

Same reason to vote this midterm for offshore drilling and oil/nat gas production expansion in florida, I have to vote to disallow the use of "vape" products indoors, and further restrict the use of tobacco. Or if I want to vote for guaranteed survivor benefits for the military and first responders, I have to vote for federal governance that is no longer applicable to our state constitution concerning educational institutions.

They always add something that is completely counter to what is proposed. They sneak issues in. Before you know it, you voted for the 'Fluffy Cat Bill' but didn't realise you just voted for higher property taxes.

Complete the Congressionally-mandated biometric entry/exit system to track non-immigrant visitors to the U.S
June 2018
On Thursday, Orlando International Airport (MCO) became the first in the nation to fully implement a biometric entry and exit system. This tremendous development was made possible through CBP’s tireless efforts to increase security technology across America’s international arrival and departure points, and is currently being pilot-tested at 13 other major airports in the U.S.
....
U.S. Travel has been working on making biometric entry-exit systems a reality for several years, and commends CBP for its commitment to improving our airport technology, strengthening our national security and enhancing the traveler experience.

From what I can find it's the farmers that oppose it. I can understand that. Can you imagine what will happen to the US agriculture industry if illegal immigrants cannot work?
We need to keep the migrate worker program. We have friends who hire legal migrate workers, several hundred, every year all summer planting, harvesting, boxing, and shipping.

Since 2009, the federal government mandates certain federal contractors to use the program. As of November 30, 2012, a total of 20 states require the use of E-Verify for at least some public and/or private employers. This document summarizes 2012 state legislation, Congressional proposals, and the 2011 U.S. Supreme Court ruling upholding Arizona’s E-Verify law.

Only two states mandate all employers to use it. I'm going to contact my state representatives to change the law in my state. How about you?
