  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You keep saying that -- nevertheless, he has such a reputation.

Now, such a reputation is probably unwarranted, nevertheless, it exists.

It only exists among the people who are willing to accept mere accusations as solid proof, and don't subscribe to "innocent unless PROVEN guilty". Those are the people this country need to worry about.

This whole thing makes no sense to me. I've been on a court case where we were trying someone accused of rape. By all indications, it was consensual, so we ended up not charging him. But it's impossible to know for sure what went on when there were no witnesses.
How in the world can someone be held liable for something they may or may not have done 36 years ago, based on no evidence and only one person's claim? This wasn't rape, it was touching someone. Yes, if it happened, it was wrong, but how do we know it wasn't consensual? And either way, how does this disqualify him for the job?

It's possible that they figured Kavanaugh's naked partisanship, gambling problem, or the fact that he's been living way beyond his means as a federal judge would've torpedoed his nomination without having to bring in a sexual assault victim for the GOP to smear.
Seriously? The majority of Americans are living beyond their means. Who cares if he gambles? These are not things that should 'torpedo' a judge's nomination. Now they're after him because his friend drank a lot in college. Like, so? Most people I know drank a lot in college. Are we looking for that perfect, sinless baby lamb to serve? No spots? Anything is good enough to keep a Trump nominee off the court?

Seriously? The majority of Americans are living beyond their means.

And they are in debt to someone for it.

Who is Kavanaugh indebted to?

Who cares if he gambles?

I care if he has a problem. Why don't you?

Or is believed to possess.

Does he have a reputation for raping? According to whom? Based on what?

Your continued libelous claims are appalling.

Did you have anything against Kavanaugh before the dems started using women as tools to smear him when their own questioning didn't appear to be effective at stopping him from being confirmed?

I certainly did. He's a known liar under oath. A person with such a character flaw should not be on the Supreme Court. He is not owed the position, and he is not harmed by not getting the position.

Ok, first of all, when did he lie under oath?
As for not being harmed by not getting the position, that's not really all that's at stake here. If he doesn't get the SCOTUS position because people believe he sexually assaulted these women, then he probably won't retain his current position as a judge either.

Ok, first of all, when did he lie under oath?
When he was questioned about receiving stolen Democratic emails.
"Kavanaugh has maintained since 2004 that he had no inkling he was privy to stolen information. Our review of all the records and testimony on this issue shows that Kavanaugh’s repeated pleas of ignorance warrant heavy skepticism."

Who knows that, though? What I do know is enough to make me think we need another candidate for SC, one who hasn't had claims of heavy drinking, possible assault, mysterious debts laid against them. And one where thousands of documents related to his work have not been made accessible to those judging his fitness for the SC. The SC is owed a better candidate, frankly.

What prevents any other person from having claims of ANYthing made against them? We've seen the damage mere claims have already done. So have the Democrats in the Senate. Nothing prevents this from happening again.

“Heavy skepticism” doesn’t mean he lied, and the article called for “heavy skepticism” and not claiming he lied.

Second, the emails do not establish Kavanaugh had lied.

A categorical denial about being at an unspecified party is also a lie. When he made the claim he wasn't at a party, the only way it could be true was if he didn't party, or he knew the specific party he didn't attend. I'm actually willing to believe he said this lie from surprise, because it's not logical on its base (it's not possible to know you haven't be at an unspecified party. You can only know if you've not been at a specified party. Or have never partied.) But regardless, a claim like that is a lie as well. Still, having looked at his cohort's claims of his heavy drinking and partying, I just don't think Kavanaugh is up to the caliber of other SC justices. Pick another.

Your continued libelous claims are appalling.

Sue me for libel, then.

A rhetorical question? Maybe it's Visa, maybe it's nobody. It's only you who is saying he's in debt to someone.

We know what his (reported) debts are, and we know what a federal judge (legitimately) makes. Do the math.

Then send him a check.

I'd rather find out who already has... and what they expect in return.

Why don't you?

Kavenaugh didn't rape anyone. That's not even the accusation against him. And the video shows how Democrats feel about FBI investigations when they're the ones on the hot seat. I guess that changes when it's a Republican. Suddenly they take the FBI more seriously.

Check his income taxes... see if he ever owned a cat. Just Draaaaaaaag it out.

Well since you bring up taxes, yes, honest folks running for the POTUS or up for a SCOTUS seat should absolutely submit them & have them thoroughly checked for corruption.

But that's separate from the accusations against Kavanaugh. There was an empty seat on SCOTUS for what - 400 days? - that's dragging things out. Wanting to investigate serious allegations, to vet somebody up for a lifetime appointment thoroughly, that's prudent.
