  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Okay, so I'm a single mother and I was in a relationship for ten years but that's over now. I never needed to touch before because I was always taken care of in that department but now I'm not. I've heard some people say its a sin and some say it isn't as long as I'm not watching porn or anything like that. I just don't want curses to fall upon me and my kids if I touch. It's just I have no intentions of being with anyone anytime soon so what do I do until then if masturbating is a sin? Please tell me what yal think.

The evidence that you've not made a second post,
suggests you made up this bologny story and
people keep thinking your a real person.

I wonder why you think this is made up.

Anyone growing up in either the Holiness movement, Gothardism, Catholicism, the "Purity" culture, and probably a host more of backgrounds had the idea that masturbation was a terrible sin.

"The sin SOOOO bad that it cannot even be mentioned in a HOLY Bible."
"Better to cast your seed into the belly of a harlot than to spill it on the ground."

How many other phrases were used to communicate that?

Whether the woman is real or not, the issue itself IS important.

In Song of Solomon chapter 5, verse 2 and following, is an interesting narrative. Shulamite is in bed, dreaming or fantasizing that her lover is at the door. She becomes aroused. She awakes with her hand dripping with wetness. What do you think she was doing?

BTW, in that story, she is called undefiled.

That's not good advice because, what we do when we are asleep and what we do when we are awake are two totally different things!

Masturbation spiritually is good for No One.

So you call M a sin and it is ok to sin if you feign to be asleep?

C'mon. be consistent. Read the text. She was in that twilight between awake and asleep and FANTASIZING her lover was doing the same as he did in Song of Solomon 2:6. Only it was HER right hand doing the deed instead of his.

If she was fully asleep, her hands would not have been doing anything beyond hanging there.

Hey if that's what you want to do feel free to go do it by yourself.

On this one I would say that 19 out of 20 pastors would agree with me whatever.

Blessed are the preachers.

I get that. But I also get that they are wrong about a great number of things.

Or too embarrassed.

Or they lost the link. I have done that before.

Or their computer crashed. Could be any number of reasons.

I know that it is hard for single people but, for the ones that think that God does not want them to touch, He will help them so as to not do that and to overcome the desire.

Feels good when we stop sinning.

I wonder why you think this is made up.Whether the woman is real or not, the issue itself IS important.

People make up phoney accounts
and they post moral dilemmas
just to waste the time of caring
people.

And I explained why. With only one post, the
author is, in effect, lying that they are interested
in entering a discussion, when if fact they just
sit back and laugh at the controversy they
stir up. I have called-to-task about 20
such postings, and even been banned from
the forum for not being polite enough
but not one time has the author responded
to anyone on the thread.

By starting a thread and not responding, they
are, in effect, lying about their interest in the topic.

So the pattern is this:
Hi I'm a (often new) Christian.
I've been taught it's naughty, by the church.
I touch (or some other moral dilemma)
I do this because of my age (or some credible excuse)
What do you think I should do?

Then they never respond.
Look for a moral dilemma and a post count of 1.

Indeed, I know that happens. "Drive-by posters" I call them.

But not everyone fits that bill. I do not know one way or the other on this one; and to say it is a drive-by is only a guess on anyone's part.

don't know what church this is from but interpretation of above verse is totally different:
http://calvaryoxnard.org/studies/ot/Song of Solomon/The Offer Of Love.htm
Yeah - that is the standard fare of those who dare to think it is not ONLY about an allegory of Christ and the church. I read Dr Arnold Fruchtenbaum's commentary on it and as a Jew and fluent in biblical Hebrew, wimped out saying he was not giving a true commentary or direct translation to avoid upsetting "christian sensibilities."

Mountain Bob said 19 out of 20 pastors would agree with him that M is a sin. I believe those are the sensibilities Dr F was trying to avoid upsetting. At that time he was a prof at Dallas Theological.

The idea that the Bible.....The very instructions guiding us to heaven.....talks about playing with ourselves while on earth, is preposterous.

Im not saying it is a sin or not. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own heart.

First comes natural, then comes the spiritual......Once getting to the spirit, there is not more need to view it naturally anymore because we have found the spiritual reality. Now if one has not had the spirit revealed yet....by all means talk about the natural side of things... But realize that the letter killeth and the spirit maketh alive....... Have to move past the letters eventually.......so teaching to focus only on letters can be detrimental.

I feel that the subject at hand is neither good nor bad.... it is our minds who decide to place a judgement on it....believing that doing so can make us more like gods......
