I am currently dealing with Gluttony issues which has been going on since I became a teenager, I have a binge eating problem which has only gotten worse as I have got older and I don't know how to overcome it. I'm so used to doing this that i have become accustomed to it, I feel like I need more than prayers to overcome my Gluttony issues, i'm not sure if this sin comes in other forms other than eating too much food but all it's doing is making me lazy, gaining weight and feeling insecure about myself, I am also really concerned that I will be sent to Hell because of my binge eating problem. I am also suffering with some sloth (laziness) issues as well and I don't know what to do.

Fasting is the only solution, we need to train our bodies and forge our souls by FASTING, try one day in a week with drinking water only for 1x24 hours, repeat this every week, after some months you will realize it works like magic.
Or you can also fast from 3 oclock pm on Friday until 7 oclock sunday morning and you may drink water only (40 hours to remember when Jesus was in the state of dead), do this every week and you will not be the same weak again.

When i'm healthy and not weak i usually eat just once a day during lunch time, after that i lock my mouth from food until next day's lunch.

If you believe in Jesus Christ and are baptized into the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, there should be no fear of going to hell, whether it be over gluttony, slothfulness or anything. If Christians went to hell for sinning, all would perish. But thanks to God's grace, salvation comes through faith, not by the Law. In other words, your salvation does not hinge on your ability to eat less, but on the person and works of Christ, so there's no need to be burdened, but let's be thankful.

Now if you were to believe and teach that gluttony isn't a sin, then it becomes a problem, for it would be contrary to God's word and it would cause others to stumble. But you acknowledge gluttony to be a sin and it's right to hate and avoid sin. In short, where I'm going with this is what Paul says in Romans 7

I would perhaps only suggest that we should be careful not to confuse feeling insecure over bodily matters with piety. Let me put it this way: If someone who is truly gluttonous decides to fast - Does he fast for himself to become more healthy or does he fast to dedicate himself to prayer and loving his neighbour? If it's primarily about getting healthy, it's not really a fast, but a diet. Dieting is not sinful, but should not be confounded with fasting, lest we fast for ourselves.

In a word: Don't worry. Read Romans prayerfully. Maybe consider joining a gym if you want to change your lifestyle :)

I am battling a chocolate addiction, every Saturday night I go out and buy a block of chocolate and eat it all in one go. My diet otherwise is perfect, I fast once a week. Yet the addiction to chocolate seems beyond my control.

I understand your gluttony issues, perhaps you can reduce the size of your meals. Do you exercise at all?

Coffee. Kills my appetite and tastes good with milk and sugar. Especially milk. The milk adds calories and protein to help you feel fuller, and makes a good filler between meals.

Also, drink more water. Hydration can smooth out larger hunger issues, too.

Too much coffee stimulates the appetite and milk can be fattening. If you add cinnamon to the coffee then that suppresses the production of cortisol so that appetite is not further stimulated.

That's good to know. I use coffee to fill up between meals, but have heard cinnamon is good for you.

I love food but am conscious of the need to be a responsible steward of my body also. Exercise is crucial in my view. In a sense I earn the calories I eat. With that perspective gluttony becomes harder cause I know the price I will have to pay for it. But so also if you convert the weight you have into muscle then you will burn 50 calories a day extra for every pound of muscle just sitting around. Also you will feel more energetic and alive.

People with more muscle may eat more than you but weigh less. Does that make them greater gluttons or better stewards is another question I suppose.

Don't listen to other peoples definition of gluttony, research yourself in the Word .. Matthew 15:11 .. If it bothers you enough you just need a lifestyle and habit change dear .. Ecclesiastes 2:24-25 .. Ask Jesus to help you in any thing including this if you think it's a problem for you , glorify God but don't let it or the devil condemn you, ever .. ..

I struggled with Gluttony ever since I was third grade. I weigh almost 400 pounds but I'm slowly getting back down there. I understand the need to eat, I understand stress eating, I understand binge eating. It's hard to get rid of. But lately, I find myself all of a sudden not eating so much anymore and I lost like 14 pounds over the last month or so. You will be in my prayers and hopefully you will overcome your gluttony too. I have faith. Good luck.

I don't think anyone is sent to hell for gluttony. There are other sins that lead up to gluttony. People are sent to hell because they don't call on Jesus, the only provided way of salvation, to be their Savior and Lord. Romans 3:23; Romans 5:8; Romans 6:23; Romans 10:9-10; Romans 6:23.
Regarding gluttony, overeating is not the friend of the glutton, but the enemy in disguise. If you want to over come gluttony you need to recognize this. Instead of going to food for comfort, pleasure, etc., search the Scriptures looking for what God thinks of You, and write it down or highlight it and memorize it. God made You. You are therefore special. He has plans for you. Jesus died for you, and both He and the holy Spirit pray for you. Read Romans 8. Let yourself get hungry, and then on a scale from one -10 rate how much pain you are in. That will be "0". Then rate how much "discomfort" you are in. That shouldn't be any higher than 2 or three. Is that so terrible? Can you put up with that for an hour? You don't even have to put up with it at all when you are not trying to lose weight, just don't OVEREAT. Try not thinking about yourself so much. Think about those that are so much worse off than you. Google Nick Vujicic and watch his videos. Be so inspired. Know that he is a Christian, though all his videos don't mention that. He knows that it is God that has raised him up out of the great depression he could be in. nick+vujicic+youtube - Bing video

I’m sorry to hear about your situation, Alison. I’m praying that God will touch you with His healing hand and provide strength to overcome your struggles. If you haven’t already done so, it might be helpful to get in touch with National Eating Disorders Association by visiting their website: www.nationaleatingdisorders.org.
