  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Greek version says

Philippians 2:6

6 who, being in the form of God, thought [it] not robbery to be equal to God,

6 ὃς (who) G3739 RelPro-NMS ἐν (in) G1722 Prep μορφῇ (form) G3444 N-DFS θεοῦ (God) G2316 N-GMS ὑπάρχων (existed) G5225 V-PPA-NMS οὐχ (not) G3756 Adv ἁρπαγμὸν (robbery) G725 N-AMS ἡγήσατο (regard) G2233 V-AIM-3S τὸ (the) G3588 Art-ANS εἶναι (be) G1510 V-PN ἴσα (equality) G2470 Adj-NNP θεῷ (God) G2316 N-DMS

Philippians 2:7

7 but did empty himself, the form of a servant having taken, in the likeness of men having been made,

7 ἀλλὰ (But) G235 Conj ἑαυτὸν (himself) G1438 RefPro-AM3S ἐκένωσεν (emptied) G2758 V-AIA-3S μορφὴν (form) G3444 N-AFS δούλου (bond-servant) G1401 N-GMS λαβών (taking) G2983 V-APA-NMS ἐν (in) G1722 Prep ὁμοιώματι (likeness) G3667 N-DNS ἀνθρώπων (men) G444 N-GMP γενόμενος (made) G1096 V-APM-NMS

What this is saying is that even tho He was God He did not think it was something to hold to so He lowered Himself as a servant of God. This is explaining why Jesus was subordinate to God The Father.

God's ways and thoughts are different. Paul was only speculating what Jesus might have thought. Paul also admitted that we prophecy in part. Many versions have come up with this translation:

6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped,

This goes well with the claim of Jesus as per His words.

John 14
Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.” 9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?

God is Spirit. Jesus was God in bodily form. At best that was how one could see God. An incarnation or manifestation. It doesn't mean He was fully God or replaced God the Father. Jesus is no longer with us in His bodily form. Can we see God in any body form now?

Well, according to scripture he did.

“IN THE BEGINNING WAS THE WORD, AND THE WORD WAS WITH GOD, AND THE WORD WAS GOD. HE WAS IN THE BEGINNING WITH GOD. ALL THINGS WERE MADE THROUGH HIM, AND WITHOUT HIM WAS NOT ANY THING MADE THAT WAS MADE.

By the way, what "WORD" is John referring too?

It was the combination of God, the Word and the Holy Spirit that created the universe. Jesus was Word becoming flesh. Jesus did not create the universe; it was already there when He came to the earth.

We're all speaking of the same thing. That's Jesus in the Incarnation.. he existed well before this. "Before Abraham was, I am." The Word is the eternal Logos.. "The Let There Be Light!" in God's creation.

Yes, I had decided to leave, but there are others wanting to know more for the sake of truth. I don't lose anything by leaving this thread.

Sorry, but you're not speaking truth.
You're going against Scripture, the creed and the accepted doctrines of this forum and the mainline churches, and claiming that these are "doctrines of men" or "manipulations of Scripture" and not inspired by the Spirit.
As your username is Right truth, it seems you believe that you are correct and everyone else - all the 100s of 1000s of Christians - is mistaken.

Jesus was God in bodily form.
That's a false statement about Jesus Righttruth, and your words betray a misunderstanding about the nature of God.

It doesn't mean He was fully God
you know what the alternative to that is? He was partly God. Can God even be 'partly' God?

The Word became flesh.
The eternal Word that created the universe took on flesh and was born as Jesus.
Jesus was, and is, the Word of God. He didn't stop being the Word when he was a human being.

exactly. Righttruth is believing something similar to the ancient heresy of Nestorius.

Do you believe that words of Jesus lead to eternal life? All other writings need to be understood in the light of that understanding.

Have you fully understood the nature of God? Unless, you have that knowledge, how can you say Jesus was fully God? Jesus was divine, no doubt about that.

The Word became flesh. Jesus prays to God to seek back this status of Word.

John 17:5 "Now, Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.

Quite obviously, Jesus was praying to the Father.

His Father is also our Father.

John 20:17 Jesus *said to her, "Stop clinging to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, 'I ascend to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God.'"
