  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm a bit stumped by the behavior of people on the left. I mean this thread with utmost understanding and respect. I'm not trying to insult or belittle, but I wonder why issues the democrats have brought up in the past weren't racist, but suddenly they are when Trump brings up the same issues. Suddenly, the left has completely flipped and flopped on issues like immigration, taking stances against Trump that they once held.

The democrats used to be at the forefront of wanting a wall, deporting criminals, and they also used to be against the dreamers.

In this video, we have Chuck Schumer taking a hard line against DACA. We have Hillary Clinton taking a tough stance on immigration, and President Obama saying specifically he can't legally just sign into law immigration reform, that it has to be done by Congress. So, by Obama's own words, DACA shouldn't of even been a thing and Trump did the right thing by not allowing it to continue and instead passing the ball to Congress to create an official bill.

When Obama said it, not racist. When Trump did exactly as Obama commented, he's racist.

When Obama called Libya a "----show", no cries from the media, no rending garments, no calls of racism. When he dropped the "N" word and an "F" bomb, both on live TV, there was no outcry from the left, no calls of racism. The media barely said anything about it.

Back in 1996, when Bill Clinton talked about illegals imposing burdens on our tax system, calling to deport more aliens, crack down on illegal hiring, and barring illegals from receiving benefits, no one called him a racist.

When Hillary talked tough on immigration, no one called her a racist.

So, I just want to know why we suddenly have to think that the left cares for these DACA kids or care for illegal immigrants. They never have in the past and took the same hard line Trump did. But suddenly they all decided to flip their views just to paint Trump as a racist. But if Trump's racist, then so is Bill, Hillary, and Barack.

People call trump racist because he says actual racist things.
My point is, it's not racist when people on the left say the same things. Why not? Only when Trump says them is there a national outrage. They didn't attempt a vote at impeachment when Obama called Libya a "----show", but they did today for Trump. Why is it okay for one president, but not another?

Trump has asked for all the bashing he has received. Maybe those presidents you mentioned did say what they said, but Trump has crossed the line way too many times. So maybe those presidents have said a thing or two, well Trump says things like that and in a more blunt offensive way than any president in history. The fact is trump has asked to be bashed by crossing the line. He knows hes crossing the line, thats how he got voted in. Thats what made him relevant. If trump didn't say such outlandish things he wouldn't be in office right now. So he and you need to deal with the hate he gets because it is well deserved.

Double standards. Sad indeed.

It may be for Trump, but that's the same double-standard applied generally to Republicans by every leftist Democrat. Don't imagine we've all been living with our heads in the sand.

Just dropping this off for the folks who think....

If they said the same things it would be racist, but they didn't. Only Trump said Mexico was sending us rapists and murders, bad people.
What does a '****show' mean, what was the context? Was he talking about Libyan immigrates coming here from a '****show' and we should be bringing in people from places like Norway? No, he wasn't, he was talking about ISIS growing in Libya. HUGE difference.

This is straw grasping. A {}show is a description of situation that is in disarray. A {}hole is a disparaging description of a nation and it's people. Why is that difference so hard for some Trump apologists to grasp.

Just because they both have {} in them does not make them synonymous.

No, we don't need to deal with anything. It's the left who are being complete and utter hypocrites. Trump said NOTHING different than they did. Yet, they say Trump isn't being "presidential". There are people in this thread who seriously tried to claim these other guys didn't say that or try to change the context, but it was the same exact words other presidents and leaders have said.

If they said the same things it would be racist, but they didn't. Only Trump said Mexico was sending us rapists and murders, bad people.

What's the huge difference? They were both true statements. I didn't gawk when Obama said it and I didn't gawk when Trump said it because they are true statements. If Trump gets on TV and says illegals are a burden to our system, he'll be called a racist on national TV in 5 minutes. When Clinton said it, no one batted an eye.

There IS a double standard going on here.

Just dropping this off for the folks who think Obama's comment about the war escalating in Libya was on par with Trump's calling countries what he did, or that it had been ignored by the media: FACT CHECK: Obama Called Libya a ‘Sh*t Show’ and Media Was Silent?
It WAS on par, and nothing you can post says otherwise.

You guys are literally proving my point here. You act like I'm this horrible person, question my faith and integrity, and even make fun of me for defending Trump, but when I post actual videos are others doing the same exact thing Trump has done, you will jump and defend them immediately and try to downplay it. But when Trump says it, he's a horrible, racist monster.

You can confirm the facts on Snopes about this from other sources. Obama reportedly used the term s show in private to refer to the escalating violence in Libya following the death of al-Qaddafi. He wasn't calling the country a derogatory name, as Trump did when he referred to countries as s holes. He was talking about the situation, escalating war. Of course Obama wasn't called racist for that, on account of what he said not being racist. If you Google the key words you can find articles from the time about it, so the media did indeed report on it.

No, Saucy, of course it was not on par, not at all, as explained to you by the folks above. It shouldn't require any explanation, just an honest look at the facts. That's all I've posted here. Edit to add - all the other folks in this thread are also sticking to the topic & not getting personal.

Its just human nature. People love to blame the other party and overlook their own party's faults.

I've occasionally seen some argue that whenever a democrat holds those positions, it's not actually his or her views, he's just saying that so he can have a chance at getting elected. For example, some people made the baseless claim that Barack Obama wasn't actually against gay marriage going into office, even though he clearly said he was.

Take into consideration that I am not a crazy in love with Obama fan, but there were Christians claiming Obama was not a Christian even though he said he was and his family fits right in with Christian ideals of no divorce, no adultery, respect for one another, etc.
Then the very same Christians will declare that Trump is a Christian, even though he said himself that he has never asked forgiveness and his personal life is all the things that are wrong with the Christian family ideals.

We can point to other things to compare between Obama and Trump such as business dealings and how they treat others, especially women, which one fits the Christian ideal.
