  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Catholics CAN'T Answer This Question!!!

This is known by every historian, religious or not.
So what's the beef ?

I would think so. What I learned years ago sitting in a library reading books can now be found on-line in about 5 minutes.

The really troubling thing to me is that when anyone investigates Purgatory and sees the REAL historical beginnings of it from Greek philosophers, and how it was used to "sell indulgences" and they in the end say......
"I do not care, I think it is in the Bible and that is it".

That is to me the very sad ending.

Why weren't the scribes and pharisees surprised at all that Jesus and His followers
didn't listen to them ? Same reason.....

You are right. Jesus didn't listen to them because they were tied up in Sola Scripture!

Thank you.

Then, I think you were reading the wrong books! Even your Bible is missing books! Books that were in your Bible until someone decided to rip them out! Talk about adding or taking away from scripture! Lol

oops ----- JESUS SAID TO LISTEN TO THEM WHEN THEY READ and TAUGHT SOLA SCRIPTURE....

<< better get it out and read it again ! >>

and JESUS said just DO NOT DO what they DID >tradition (don't live like they lived) , which was OPPOSED TO TORAH .....

See? If we DO what JESUS says to DO, HIS WORD, and not be hearers of HIS WORD only,
then we are justified.

If we are hearers only, and do not DO what JESUS says, then we would remain UNjustified.

SIMPLE.

IF any teaching OR tradition is a different GOSPEL than that which was once delivered, it is cursed - DO NOT LISTEN TO IT, nor speak with those guilty of it (tradition opposed to GOSPEL).

Your leaders have already admitted they did that.

The followers of Jesus just shrugged and left .

Actually,
unless God removes the veil, nothing, no reading, no posts, no anything, will help.

Also, btw, the FALSE GOSPEL is 100 to 1000 times MORE PREVALENT online than the true gospel - same online posts..... the truth is far, far outnumbered.....

Oh, where does it say Jesus told them to listen to them that taught Sola Scripture? Can you point that out please?

Jesus created His church. He gave Peter the Keys. He gave us Apostolic Tradition. He sent His Apostles out to teach. This was all before the Bible as we know it now.

The Catholic church has the Apostolic Tradition. It has the Holy Spirit. It has Scripture.

I think you need to get out of your very narrow tunnel of Sola Scripture!

Sure, why look to the word of God when we can cling to the utter nonsense of men who brought us things like praying to dead people, burning incense to statues, and kissing plastic pardon crucifixes to get time knocked off of slow roasting in a place that doesn't exist? Yeah, sign me up for that.

Again, another person who really does not know Catholicism. As evident from your post.

Blessings my friend

Well there was the guy, in this very thread, who DID offer to provide some Crispy Creme donuts if the word could be found.
He wasn't arguing that if it COULD be found, that this would prove the reality of Purgatory, though, was he? No.

I was raised in the RCC. After twelve years of catechism, baptism, confession, communion, confirmation, and being an altar boy, I'd wager I know more about Catholicism than your average Roman Catholic. That notwithstanding, even if all I knew was what you posted here, my response was correct.

It's a shame then that you were not taught correctly.

Yes, what I was taught in the RCC was not correct. I'm glad we agree. It wasn't until God led me away from that theology and into His word that I was taught correctly. I thank Him every day for that.

I got a feeling it wasn't God that led you away!

It's a shame then that you were not taught correctly.

And yet you still believe in Purgatory. A place or a process that you can not determine where it is or what has to be one and in fact you can not tell us what has to done to escape it.

Some one just said it is a position of purging oneself in order to get ready to go to heaven.

HOW would YOU do that?
How long would you have to do it?
Where would you do it at?

Talk about incorrect teaching????

The reality of purgatory has been shown in the threads above. It's just a case of those who oppose Catholic teachings turning a blind eye to them and refusing to see the truth that purgatory exists.

That is a complete erroneous statement. NOT ONE single Scriptures has been posted with the words Purgatory.....NOT ONE!

There has been some Scripture that was cherry picked and was thought to match what a Catholic believer thought but upon proper exegesis of those Scriptures it has been proven that they di not pertain to Purgatory at all.

Why would you keep stating what is not true?

Please try another avenue of explanation.

The best and actually the only one that applies is that Purgatory is NOT in the Scriptures and it is NOT mentioned or taught in the Scriptures at all, but because the RCC told me it was, I am going to accept their word over the Word of God.

That my dear friend is what is called "Oral Tradition".

It was a silly challenge, as far as I was concerned. All he said was that the word 'purgatory' could not be found in the Bible so purgatory could not be real. He challenged anyone to find the word 'purgatory' in the Bible as if not finding it proved it didn't exist. He rested his case on that. Same logic of those who say the word 'trinity' isn't in the Bible so there is no Trinity. We all know that the word 'trinity' and 'purgatory' are not in the Bible. But that, in itself, proves nothing. Except to a certain kind of literalist.
