Judge Roy Moore: When You Believe in and Acknowledge God, You’re Painted as a ‘Polarizing Figure’

When Britt began by referring to the former Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court as a “polarizing figure,” Judge Moore’s answer was epic:

“You are a polarizing figure — that’s a given,” Britt began before Moore jumped on the statement.

“Well, when you believe in God and acknowledge God, that automatically points to a difference with some in our society,” Moore asserted. “And it paints you as a polarizing figure because you believe in what this country is founded upon.”

Does he really think that's why he's a polarizing figure? lol

"Gee, why don't people like me?"
"Is it perhaps because you currently have sexual misconduct allegations, been shown to have illegally paid yourself from your nonprofit foundation, or had a business relationship with known white supremacy groups and leased your facilities to them two years in a row?"
"Nah...that can't be it...it must be because I acknowledge God!"
"But Roy, there are many politicians who acknowledge God, and people don't hate the......"
"Shhhhh, nothing to see here, fake news! fake news!, the left is out to get me! Doug Jones loves abortion!"

There have been several Christian senators and reps who weren't polarizing like Moore.

Reminds me of when Kobe Bryant and Floyd Mayweather make statements implying that the reason people hate them is because "we're just so good at what we do, people are jealous".

You'd have to have almost zero self awareness in order to sincerely believe that's the reason people dislike you.

...his bit about how "acknowledging God is what this country was founded upon" is just another shining example of how he doesn't actually understand the constitution or the law. (although, his two previous bench removals should've already been an indicator of that)

It's funny. I've never seen someone misspeak an entire sentence. I think what he meant was when you defy the laws of the country after taking an oath to uphold them and make inflammatory statements, you get painted as a polarizing figure.

When you claim to believe in God and only recognize 80% of the Ten Commandments you get nailed as a hypocrite and a disgrace to your religion.

I've run into loads of people who think exactly like he does.

You'd have to have almost zero self awareness in order to sincerely believe that's the reason people dislike you.

That pretty much describes the bulk of the evangelical movement of the 80s and 90s (and maybe the early 2000s).

It's a sad truth that there are a lot of people who treat others like dirt and act like brats then turn around and claim to be persecuted because of their religion when their religion has nothing to do with why they are disliked. One guy I personally knew repeatedly told people who weren't Christian that we were going to burn in Hell forever. Now, that's a Christian belief, but if you keep saying that to me there's a good chance I'm not going to like you and my shunning of the person isn't because they are a Christian.

Perhaps he should read his monuments he keeps trying to put up.

Doesn't it just figure though? Here's a man who loves God and is brave enough to take a stance on gays, Muslims, Mormons, Catholics, Jews, atheists, blacks, Natives, women and of course, liberals, and liberals will just automatically call him 'polarizing'. I think it's the liberals who are being divisive.

But Moore has been suspended from being Chief Justice because of his refusal to do his duty of his office according to Alabama law, right?

(Is it a situation of separations of powers that Moore refused to honor? -- only the legislature can make law, not the judiciary)

Here's a local Alabama news source on it:
The Alabama Supreme Court today upheld the decision that removed Roy Moore from his position as chief justice.
...
The Alabama Court of the Judiciary on Sept. 30, 2016 suspended Moore for the remainder of his term as chief justice after finding him guilty of six charges of violation of the canons of judicial ethics. The charges were brought and prosecuted by the Alabama Judicial Inquiry Commission.

Roy Moore's suspension upheld by Alabama Supreme Court; decision next week on Senate race

Now, it appears as if Moore will be elected. And then will the Senate Ethics committee being putting him under investigation?

Hold on... Roy Moore swore an oath to support the Constitution of the US and the Constitution of the State of Alabama "So help me God".

I didn't know that unrepentant oathbreaking to God was hunky-dory to so many Christians in Alabama.

I fear too many will "hold their nose and vote for him". The conservative Catholic Nytimes columnist R. Douthat pointed out how this will backfire so badly. Against faith. That's why it actually matters, the way this will backfire against faith itself, such as their own children's faith.

True to an extent. There are plenty of evangelicals and fundamentalists in Alabama who don't attract a lot of attention. The judge seems to invite public polarization.
...which verifies the thought that he is identified with Christian principles in public life, which in turn is something the Left cannot abide.

It's not that some or many legislators are Christian. They are tolerated so long as they keep it quiet. But it is standard practice, in politics, to go after the person who personifies a movement or principle that you, the observer, oppose.
