I have been trying to find God for years and have always struggled to believe. I feel that proof is needed to believe in something and I can't bring myself to simply believe as so many do. I have been trying for years to "find God". I attend both church and bible study on a weekly basis. I have read how others have found God, but I have tried to find God alone for many years and I think it is time to get help. Please can you share your reasons for your belief in God (people who were previously atheist/agnostic please share why and how your heart changed). Please only comment if you are open minded, wasting time debating with closed minded people is only going to distract from the reason I am posting this.

What kind of proof are you looking for?
Anything? What basis do you have for your belief? Scripture is one thing, but there is no way to prove that what is written is true. I know that might sound strange to you, that scripture is untrue, but it is definitely possible. Other religions have scriptures of their own. Their scriptures are also corroborated with events in human history and seen to be irrefutable (to their believers). So I am not looking for the answer, "because the scriptures tell us God exists", unless you can give me proof the scriptures are true. I'm sorry if that sounds vague.

.
EXODUS.33: = 20 But He said, “You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live.”
.

JOHN.20: =
28 And Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!”

29 Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
.

LUKE.16: =
27 “Then he said, ‘I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father’s house, 28 for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.’ 29 Abraham said to him, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.’ 30 And he said, ‘No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’ 31 But he said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.’”
.
.
HEBREWS.11: = 6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _

Faith = trust = believe ... in God and His Word or promises.

Believe in God, keep His Law and you will be blessed/rewarded with a good and long life on earth; and have faith in His Son Jesus and you will be blessed with everlasting live.
... For Gentile Christians, wrt the Law, be guided by ACTS.15:24-29.

I have been trying for years to "find God".
You can't find God. For example, discussing the spiritual realm with atheists is pointless.

You have to intuit there is a God. Maybe you sense evil must be explained, or morality, or love. Then you deduce what kind of God he would be. The only sensible answer is given by Christianity.

Then you have to go through the whole process again, each time coming to the same conclusion.

Hopefully, this results in a devotional lifestyle involving Bible reading, and prayer and meditation focused on Jesus.

When I was considering different religions and whether God existed I was working as a youth worker (juvenile detention). One of the youths said something I found quite profound at the time, "God is like the wind, but we feel Him on the inside". I thought, 'well how do I learn how to feel Him?". The experience I had is probably unique but the conditions are probably quite common. I confessed all of my "sin", everything I felt guilty about, to my mother. That was step one for me. Admitting that there were things I was doing that were wrong and causing me and others pain. Next, I went to a prayer meeting where the people laid their hands on me and prayed. I cried and felt a warm blanket cover me inside and out. This was my experience. I was raised a christian with a legalistic bent. Life experience caused me to doubt God and christianity. I searched around for a few years and made friends with people who treated me badly. It was the experience of love, safety, care, family etc that brought me back.
